Introduction

Through a selection of personal and professional projects, you will discover my artistic universe, as well as the different modes of expression and representation I personally love. After having completed a master’s degree of "Architecture, Environment and Constructive Culture" and graduating as a State Architect at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Grenoble, it is important for me to practice an architecture that leans on the material, cultural and social resources available on site. Taking advantage of these resources goes hand in hand with the need to rethink a more sustainable and responsible way of consuming, building and living together. After having experienced a year of university exchange in Budapest and a trip to Mexico, where my mind has been opened to new cultural ways of living and building, I moved to Barcelona in order to bring my knowledge and creativity. It is there where I want to develop myself professionally, a city in which I consider that the practice of sustainable and social urbanism and architecture is at the core of their way of designing.

Destroyed Elements

Master Plan

Portfolio Elise MATHON - 2021

This project consists of the renovation and requalification of a 19th century castle in the south of Budapest. Former site manufacturing Cognac, the programme is based on the creation of a showroom dedicated to the history of the castle at the time when it still hosted the factory and the cellars. In view of the potential of this courtyard château, a hotel, restaurant and seminar room have been included in the programme. The castle thus becomes an attractive place that can host different events such as weddings, birthdays, seminars, etc... The restaurant and its interior terrace revitalise the surrounding area by providing an opportunity for local residents to meet.

Refurbished Elements

The renovation of the castle initially involved eliminating the volumes added at the end of the 20th century, which distorted the original aesthetics of the building. Then, the decision was taken to rebuild the original parts that had been destroyed, such as the gable and the frieze running along the southern façade. An overhead steel stucture was added to accommodate the circulation areas leading from the entrance to the hotel. This glazed structure running along the courtyard and the main façade of the hotel contrasts with the castle massive appearance.

02-GET BACK ON TRACK GRADUATION PROJECT, LED BY DUBUS NICOLAS, A&CC

8

The extract you are about to read develops an architectural, territorial and a landscape designed project on the site of the railway district of Saint-Georges-de-Commiers, a small village located in the south of Grenoble’s metropolis. This site, now neglected, was once the cradle of the emblematic mining and touristic little train of Saint-Georges-La-Mure. The entire village has witnessed the disappearance of many activities and businesses, linked to the cessation of the railroad line. The commune is facing shortages in various fields, and relaunching its attractiveness is turning out to be a need. The answer to this problem was to set up a new alternative tourism model, anticipating the environmental and societal issues of 2050, which through its architectural design, educates visitors with a more sober and responsible lifestyle. This project is part of the global approach of «Friche des Commiers», which is food and energy resilient, and promotes mutual aid and solidarity among its users.

Postcard of the railway area in 1920, when the train was still running

Portfolio Elise MATHON - 2021

This multi-scalar project takes advantage of all the potential found on the site such as : the built heritage and railway equipment, the mining and touristic history in connection with the very first electric train in the world, the beauty of the surrounding landscape and its strategic location in the territory. To get the Saint-Georges-de-Commiers station area back on track, this rehabilitation will result in the creation of unusual touristic accommodation, a restaurant, a museum and a green bike lane. This set of services is complemented by sustainable means of transportation that connect the Friche des Commiers to its immediate environment and to its territory.

Distribution of the three action areas and the buildings they concern

THE PASSENGER BUILDING The emblematic passenger building now houses a restaurant as well as modular cabins that can be used either as short-term accommodation or as collaborative workspaces, thanks to the ingenious design of its furniture units. The design of these cabins creates an unusual atmosphere and invites the user to travel, thanks to the subtle sliding of references to the railway universe, and thanks to the contribution of the user in the installation of flexible interior layout modules. 04-FACING THE RISKS/ 16

LED BY PAR B. ADELINE

This work allowed me to familiarize myself with the conception of a project facing important natural risks. Here, the risk that we had to face while building a hundred collective dwellings, was a dikeburst along the tumultuous river of the Drac in Grenoble. In addition, it was necessary to requalify the role of the latter within the city. The fate of the river and its status are central to the project. Indeed, it consists primarily of the creation of a waterfront park and a large-scale opening of the park on the city.

Portfolio Elise MATHON - 2021

This project was designed from a territorial to a housing scale. It follows a repetitive pattern composed of built strips (dwellings) and empty strips (gardens evolving in the spaces between two buildings and allowing the creation of a certain porosity between the neighborhood and the edge of the Drac). All the flats have at least a double orientation and are showcasing the landscape (Grenoble’s mountains and river). At the foot of the buildings are shops, common areas, contingencies. The roofs also hosts common outdoor private green spaces.

PROJET D’HABITATIONS POUR ARTISTES

ARTS We were asked to work CITÉ on theDES design of aVIVANTS performing arts centre. This project TURIN took place on the site of a former park and zoo on the banks of the Po river, in Turin.

18

PROJET D’HABITATIONS POUR ARTISTES The theme we have chosen to deal with was the mass and grid. The project CITÉ DESthe ARTS VIVANTS is in fact a monolith made of massive stones. The artists’TURIN accommodations, the performance and training rooms have all been established following a grid pattern that extends imaginary across the plot. Each room has its own patio, whose role is to be both a circulation area, a private entrance, an outdoor living space and a source of natural light.

S5_Studio_DOUCERAIN _2018/2019

As the project only covers one level, it allows an extension of the public space on its roof. The roof is littered with plazas opening onto the main street and encouraging social interaction. The urbanistic position the project is defending is the complete opening the street and the dialogue with the discontinuity of the frontage facing it.

STRAW INSULATION FILLING

I attended two days of laying haystacks in a participatory construction site. I I was trained to cut the bales, to compress them, to place them between the wooden posts as well as the necessary finishes before the laying of the raw earth coating. A highly formative experience filled with the sharing of contructive knowledge and human exchanges.
