Coffee Morning for the Elderly 2015Marsaskala Local Council 10th January 2015 On the 10th of January 2015, the Cultural Committee under the Marsaskala Local Council together with the Major Mario Calleja, organised a coffee morning for the Elderly. Over a hundred elderly joined from various homes. The Elderly really enjoyed themselves by playing the Bingo game, eating and even listening to some joyful music. We also had the honor to hear again the angel voice of Ms Thea Aquilina from Safi, who gave us some of her songs. It was a wonderful morning and very satisfying to see happy elderly faces for the few hours we spent together.

On behalf of the Local Council, the Mayor gave a new instrument sponsored by the Wasteserv, to the Society, Mr Kevin Bonello, to encourage more students to learn music within the Society. Marsaskala Day 5th- 6th September 2015 The summer is coming to an end and the day to celebrate our locality day arrived as well. The weather was fine and we could easily enjoy the programme prepared for our locality day. The flag was raised up near the Anchor monument in Marsaskala accompanied by the Scouts and after The Mayor, Councilors, Scouts, Girl Guides and the SIGULDIETIS group from Lativia, marched to Dun Tarcis Agius Square. A full music –literary programme was raised. The SIGULDIETIS from Latvia danced folklore music with their colourful folklore costume. Young Maltese singers gave us some pieces of their music with their angelic voices. We had also the opportunity to hear some Maltese literary reading from a poet and an author both living in our locality. Nearly at the end of the programme few recognition trophies were given to persons that honoured our locality during the year. These were: Nataya Curmi, Oxana Briffa, Isaac Mercieca, Jake Vella, Abigail Borg and Dylan Muscat. The last but not least and apart from the recognition trophy, Marsaskala Honor was given to Warren Schembri, a young person with special needs, who honoured us Maltese by winning a Gold and Silver medal during the Special Olimpic games this year in table tennis.

I can say that it was really an emotional night full of excitement especially among these young persons where they did their very best to represent us Maltese in competitions in our country and even in other countries. On Sunday morning we had the Thanks giving Mass and after the animals’ blessing.
