May 2011 SOCC Student Ministry Parent Letter

Jr. High this month: Earlier this semester Jeremy did a series on money called “balance,” where we see throughout the Bible God is calling us to approach our money in this mindset: “Give, Save, Live on the rest.” This month at Fuse our Jr. High students will follow up that series with an age appropriate version of Financial Peace University. Cary Curry will be teaching the class as he did earlier this semester with our high school students. No matter how much or how little money our jr. high students manage, we want them to know these Biblical principles well so they can grow in stewardship, as God entrusts more to them in their futures.

Jr. High SHOUT OUT SECTION! I’d like to give a huge thank you to Tyler Cadwell, Cindy Newland, Josh Pope, Kevin Pruet, Danielle Robertson, Susan Schlegel, David Sheldon, and Randy Stegemoller. These leaders gave up their weekend to spend time with your sons and daughters at CIY Believe and they did an awesome job!

Thank you also to Marilyn Brontrager who drove the bus for us all weekend! I really appreciate all the energy they put in to helping lead your sons and daughters in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. If you see them please give them a pat on the back and tell them thank you.

High School this month: This month we will be wrapping up our final two gatherings at The Six (May 1st & 15th) with some group building time, graduation festivities and more. Our main content will be continued in our HS 9:30am class with a video series called “Courage” that is hosted by Francis Chan. We are excited about CIY MOVE (check dates below) and hope your student doesn’t miss this incredible conference!

DATES YOU NEED TO KNOW: • June 12 – promotion Sunday o 8th grade students will join the High School students and our current 6th graders will be moving up into Jr. High.

• June 20‐25 – High School CIY Move (8th Graders) o CIY Move is a weeklong High School conference that we go to every year. It is located in Holland Michigan. It is awesome! o WE NEED PARENTS TO COME WITH US ON THIS TRIP! It is located in Grayson Kentucky and it is a blast! o WE NEED PARENTS TO COME WITH US ON THIS TRIP!
