The Assembly, located at 110 South Main Street, always appealed to Todd Davis and his dad, Rick. They knew the history of the building and also saw the great potential it had to be something special for the community.
In July 2019, Todd brought his wife, Cameron, and two children, Kyleigh and Hudson, to the property for a tour and pitched the idea of purchasing the building to his family. “I am so thankful for Todd’s vision and his ability to look past the run-down building because, at first glance, I thought he was crazy,” recalls Cameron. “Sometimes it takes a little crazy to take on a project as big as this.”
Renovations got underway in early 2021. The first tenant to jump on board was Social on Main. The Davises travel a lot with their family and often seek out food halls to stop in. When Neeley Hacker proposed her concept of Social, the Davises knew it would be the perfect fit. After finalizing Social’s layout, the team working on The Assembly created spaces in the building for other tenants. Kalon Health, The Bug’s Ear, and Kuddy’s Sips and Sweets all committed to The Assembly in 2023. “One more addition is coming later this year that we are really excited about,” explains Todd. “We promise the downtown will love it.”
Family and locally-owned businesses make up the infrastructure of The Assembly, which was always important to the Davises. Keeping tenants local and helping family-owned businesses thrive was always the goal. “We think we have the greatest group of tenants under one roof at The Assembly,” says Todd. “It was a long fiveyear journey but definitely worth all of the hard work it took to get to this point. We look forward to being a part of the growing downtown area for many years to come.”

ON THE COVER
MAILLARD
Also a culinary endeavor by Kirt and Cecille, Maillard Wood Fired Kitchen specializes in NeoNeapolitan and other wood-fired fare. The eatery has built a loyal clientele of craft pizza lovers, starting out as a food truck operation and setting up at venues throughout the region. The menu includes traditional offerings such as the Margherita and Classic Pepperoni, along with more experimental options, including pizzas featuring toppings such as Alabama white sauce, Calabrian chiles, and asparagus.
TAGLISH
Bringing a taste of Filipino cuisine to downtown Elizabethtown, Taglish offers a variety of traditional entrees, such as Chicken Adobo (chicken braised in soy sauce, vinegar, peppercorns, and garlic), Lechon Kawali (crispy fried skin-on pork belly) and Pancit (stir-fried rice noodles with sausage and vegetables). The restaurant also offers appetizers such as Lumpia (spring rolls filled with beef, pork, and vegetables served with chili or chili-infused vinegar), along with Ube Macapuno Cheesecake for dessert. Owned by Kirt Jones and Cecille DomingoJones, Taglish presents a modern take on traditional Filipino dishes by utilizing local products and pairing them with flavors of the Philippines.
REUBEN’S
The addition of Reuben’s Downtown Delicatessen to Social on Main represents a triumphant return for the beloved local eatery after their initial closure in 2019. Formerly located on Cardinal Drive, Reuben’s new location offers beloved signature sandwiches such as the Wildcat and the Cardinal along with classic deli sandwiches such as the House Roast Beef and Turkey and Swiss Club, along with hotfrom-the-grill options such as the Classic Reuben and the Philly Cheese Steak.
A dream that dates back to 2019, Social On Main has found a home at The Assembly. The intention for this mixed-use space came from a passion for hospitality and community that owner Neeley Hacker recognized in other establishments she’d visited and loved over the years. Research and development for the concept spanned from Michigan to Texas as Neeley met with both food hall and tap wall owners that inspired the vision for Social, fueling Neeley’s determination to bring a similar vibe to Elizabethtown.
The concept, design team, and a network of contacts and relationships were all in place; all that was needed was the perfect space. Nearly two years later, after looking at multiple options in the downtown area, Neeley connected with Todd Davis, owner of The Assembly building. After explaining her concept, Todd agreed it would be a perfect fit for the Assembly, granting her a lifechanging opportunity to bring her dream to life. Today, Social On Main is a beautiful new gathering spot for anyone interested in good eats, cold drinks, and first-rate fun.
Offering a new kind of lunch and dinner experience in a food hall setting, the Social tenant roster is a thoughtful collection of beloved local food vendors. Chosen for their quality offerings, Maillard Wood Fired Kitchen, Taglish Filipino American Kitchen, and Reuben’s Delicatessen are happily serving delicious meals six days a week.
In addition to its dining options, Social prides itself on being the largest selfpour tap wall in Kentucky with a total of 42 offerings on tap. Guests can enjoy 28 domestic, import, microbrew, and craft beers, eight wines, and six handcrafted batch cocktails sold by the ounce. There’s truly something for everyone.
Last, but certainly not least, are Social’s duckpin lanes. Often referred to as the little cousin of mainstream bowling with its smaller ball size and shorter game time, duckpin bowling is a relaxed, extremely fun version of the classic.
Neeley looks forward to the road ahead.
“Building a business from the ground up has been the most rewarding project of my life,” she said. “I’m thrilled to be a part of Elizabethtown and our downtown neighborhood and can’t wait to see families, friends, and neighbors come together in one place.”

“We love being part of such a unique venue that has diversified the brick-and-mortar shopping experience in downtown Elizabethtown.”
—Louise Davis, Owner, The Bug’s Ear
Kuddy’s Sips and Sweets was born when Cameron Davis’s love of sweets and traveling out west collided.
“On family trips we would come across these tiny soda shops that combined the most interesting and delicious flavors to create tasty drinks,” Cameron recalled. “I knew this would be a fun concept to include at The Assembly.”
As for the name, Cameron thought of it on the way home from their kids’ soccer tournament. “Our son, Hudson, goes by the nickname Huddy. Replace the H with the K from our daughter’s name, Kyleigh, and you get Kuddy’s,” she explained. “Our kids inspire us daily so it was only fitting to name this project after them.”
Kuddy’s will be everyone’s favorite sweet stop inside The Assembly, serving up fizzy soda drinks, ice cream floats, milkshakes, and delicious baked goods. And for the adults, make any of Kuddy’s drinks “dirty” by adding a shot of your favorite alcohol to give your concoction a little kick!

Every dog has its day, but some dogs get a lot of days—special days, that is. These are days when the dogs of Baptist Health Hardin’s pet therapy program don their purple vests and name badges and head to work with their owners with one goal—to comfort people and make them smile.
Bentley, Penny, Rhett, Roxie, and Weller are the stars of the hospital’s pet therapy program, which spreads cheer among patients, visitors, and staff, and has even deeper implications for patients’ mental and emotional well-being and comfort.
Jessica Jasper, director of the hospital’s Spiritual Care Department and pet therapy program founder, said that the happiness and unconditional friendship the dogs bring can help patients relax, get lost in the moment, and confide in the chaplains.
Life in the hospital—even for short-term stays—can produce anxiety or fear. “Being away from home and feeling that loss of control is not uncommon,” Jasper said. “The pet therapy program brings some sense of home and normalcy.”
PET THERAPY
PET THERAPY DOGS MAKE A “PAWSITIVE” IMPACT AT HOSPITAL
40
The dogs are also consoling to patients with terminal diagnoses or family members experiencing grief or loss. “The dogs help open the door for me as a chaplain to really go deep with people about their fears or concerns, or what they are looking forward to. For some families, the dogs have a calming presence during these challenging times.”
The dogs usually interact with patients from five minutes to an hour, which Jasper said can be especially comforting to patients who miss their own dogs at home.
The dogs must pass a training course certified by the American Kennel Club, as well as adhering to a strict regimen of regular bathing, nail clipping, and brushing. “It sounds like a lot of fun, bringing your dog to work, but it’s actually a lot of work—and it’s worth it,” said Jasper.
Some patients who see the dogs regularly, such as those who perform therapy onsite or receive routine cancer treatments, have bonded with the dogs and look forward to seeing them. Some even bring them treats.
The number one job requirement? A good temperament and obedience. It’s clear that these dogs have both, as they wag their tails excitedly when visitors pass, and hope that someone will pet them and give them a kind word. These five are living proof that when something has “gone to the dogs,” it’s not so bad. In fact, it can be a very “pawsitive” thing for all.
The pet therapy program is made possible by Baptist Health Foundation Hardin and the generous support of its donors.
Bentley is a Standard Poodle. A one-and-a-half-year-old boy, he loves his tennis ball and going to play with his friends at the dog park. He loves to eat anything and everything. Bentley is pictured with his owner, Kayce Stewart, patient scheduler for Outpatient Oncology and patient Brenda Stump.
Penny, short for Penelope, is an eight-month-old black Goldendoodle. She is an energetic pup who loves stealing her human sister’s stuffed animals and chewing on things, especially books. She recently devoured “Have a Beautiful, Terrible Day,” by Kate Bowler. Her favorite treat is cheese. Penny is pictured with her owner, Jessica Jasper, director of Spiritual Care.
Rhett, a Great Dane, is between six and seven years old. He is pictured with his owner, Sara Prewitt, dialysis manager, who found him on the road. After several unsuccessful attempts to find his owners, he became family. Rhett’s favorite activity is “counter-surfing.” He was recently caught stealing party desserts from the kitchen counter. He loves his stuffed donkey, sunbathing, and belly rubs. Prewitt said, “He loves his role at Baptist Health Hardin.”
Roxie is a one-year-old Blue Heeler, and the most recent addition to the pet therapy program. She loves her ball, playing fetch, and jumping in the pond. Her favorite treat is chicken jerky. Roxie is pictured with her owner Erin Priddy, Community Health and Wellness manager.
Weller is a one-and-a-half-year-old Standard Goldendoodle who loves his squeaky toys and a good tennis ball. He also loves his time playing with his dog and human siblings. Weller’s favorite treat is beef trachea or anything with peanut butter. Weller is pictured with his owner, Allison Reed former medical technologist at Baptist Health Hardin, who has recently transferred to Baptist Health Louisville.

BOWTIES & BLING GENERATES $130K FOR SAINT JAMES CATHOLIC SCHOOL
46
Saint James Catholic School hosted the 11th annual Black & White Knight event on Saturday, February 4. Transforming a sterile gym into a beautiful event venue adorned with colorful cocktails, flower arrangements, elegant draping, a dance floor, and a stage, the volunteer committee continues to astound event-goers with attention to detail and a fun, entertaining event. Included in the evening were a raffle drawing, silent and live auction, dinner, and drinks followed by dancing. With nearly 500 in attendance and 45 event sponsors – Legato Financial as Title Sponsor, the annual gala raised $130,000 to support the students, faculty, and staff at Saint James Catholic School.
For the second year, the school presented the Distinguished Alumni Award during the event, honoring Deacon Bill Clark for his years of service to Saint James and his service to the Elizabethtown/Hardin County community. Bill has been a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church and has practiced his faith in his home parish for 75 years. He was ordained to the Diaconate of the Archdiocese of Louisville in 1996 and has served as a Deacon for twenty-seven years. He and his wife, Nicki, have enshrined a love of Catholic education in his children and grandchildren.
“Our school community is grateful to the volunteer committee and our entire Elizabethtown community for coming together to support this event,” said Jennifer Moran, Director of Mission Advancement. “With costs continuing to rise in all industries, our school depends on individuals and corporations to help us maintain a balanced budget.”

SPRING TABLE
INSPIRATION FROM FINE HOUSE & GARDEN
THOMAS ISAAC DEATON
THERE ARE ALWAYS FLOWERS FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SEE THEM.
– HENRI MATISSE
“FINE in Wonderland” might best describe this table feature from our friends at the local decor & custom furnishings shop, an assemblage of inspiration for entertaining as the weather again trends warmer and we all venture out from a few months of hibernation.
Their usual layers of texture are on display, plus conversation pieces to keep things fun and interesting (magnifying glasses and more than a few mushroom motifs, for starters).
Much like the natural whimsy of the garden world that gives this spread its theme, the tablescape is built from the ground up: start at the lowest level and you’ll find a paper table runner and deep green woven placemats, followed by a wooden charger, decorative greens, and blooming linens. The multicolor blown glass candleholders reach upward, as do the serving pieces of various composition scattered throughout.
For inspiration and to explore the pieces featured, visit FINE House & Garden at their Elizabethtown shop.

Shining a Light on Solar Panel Recycling
The proposed Telesto Solar Project, by Lightsource bp, is a 128-megawatt dc (110-megawatt ac) solar facility located on approximately 650 acres of privatelyowned land in Hardin County. Learn more about Lightsource bp’s recycling success at their Indiana solar construction site.
FOR INDIANA SOLAR CONSTRUCTION SITE
Responsible waste management can help maximize the sustainable benefits of solar. Lightsource bp seeks to improve our own waste footprint by committing to reusing or recycling solar panels, as well as reducing or diverting other waste streams during construction and operations.
By some estimates, as much as 30% of global waste comes from construction & demolition. Though solar projects contribute only a fraction of this total, waste diversion presents an opportunity for the solar industry to help make strides toward a circular economy. Not only can we improve solar’s environmental impact, but we can set an example for the construction industry at large. Lightsource bp partners with Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) Contractors that strive to divert construction waste from landfills by recycling and salvaging as much material as possible. Take a look at the recycling program at Honeysuckle Solar in Indiana for a case study in sustainable construction waste management, with some surprising data around economics.
IT CAN BE DONE!
HONEYSUCKLE SOLAR RECYCLES 88% OF WASTE, WITHOUT ADDED COST.
Lightsource bp selected EPC Contractor Inovateus Solar, LLC to build Honeysuckle Solar. Inovateus is based in South Bend Indiana, just a few miles from the site. Like Lightsource bp, Inovateus has ambitious sustainability goals, including waste reduction. “We want to deliver clean energy in the most sustainable way we can, and that means partnering with an EPC who shares our determination to minimize our environmental impact,” said Dan Shapiro, VP of Projects & Construction at Lightsource bp.
As the EPC Contractor for Honeysuckle Solar, Inovateus and their sub-contractor Koontz Wagner have demonstrated their commitment to keeping as much waste as possible out of the landfill. Broken or damaged solar panels are a small portion of construction waste onsite. Of more than 400,000 panels delivered to the site, a few thousand arrived broken or were damaged during construction. In line with Lightsource bp’s global commitment, 100% of these panels will be recycled. In the case of Honeysuckle, the damaged solar panels will be sent back to their U.S.-based manufacturer, First Solar, for recycling or reuse.
Besides the panels themselves, most of the waste from solar construction is what you’d find at any other construction site—plastic, wood, cardboard, scrap metal. At Honeysuckle, packaging from materials and equipment is the biggest waste stream, with wooden pallets making up the majority.
The site team separates, sorts, and stores these recyclable materials to be picked up by a local recycler. That’s about 88% of the waste generated on-site diverted from the landfill, not including any damaged solar panels.
Even better, this success story at no premium cost to the project. Inovateus reports that the service fee for the local recycler is cheaper than regular dumpster haul charges to the landfill. These savings offset the additional labor cost needed to run the recycling program. This allows them to keep their costs competitive, while providing recycling as a service to clients like Lightsource bp.
THE TAKEAWAY FOR OUR INDUSTRY: RECYCLING ON SOLAR SITES CAN BE ACHIEVED ECONOMICALLY.
“Just to be break-even compared to landfill is a huge win, since it is better for the planet and for our business.” said Tyler Kanczuzewski, VP of Sustainability at Inovateus Solar. “It’s wild that more companies aren’t doing this more aggressively. We need to continue to recycle packaging material as solar scales.”
LIGHTSOURCE BP’S COMMITMENT TO SOLAR PANEL RECYCLING
Our solar assets, like many in the sector, are generally early in their operational lives, with the oldest built in 2011. As solar farms can have a 40+ year lifespan, we have so far only had to dispose of a relatively small number of panels—those damaged during shipping, construction or operations. Eventually, however, our projects will need to be decommissioned or repowered. Though this is decades away, we are already planning and preparing to uphold our zero-landfill solar panel policy. This commitment to reusing or recycling 100% of solar panels used at our sites keeps waste out of the landfill and allows for recovery of materials like aluminum, glass, and valuable metals.
In the United States, we work exclusively with accredited, domestic solar recycling partners vetted by the Solar Energy Industries Association. This helps ensure that our recycling vendors strive for maximum material recovery and second life usage, and don’t export any materials for processing. As we scale our solar footprint across the United States and the world, we are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint through this and other initiatives. Read our latest Sustainability Report to learn more.

Winter is out, and spring is in! Many local families are building new homes or looking to renovate their current homes at this time of year, so kitchen inspiration is on the agenda. We are featuring six fabulous kitchens created by companies we love.
Smith Family Homes focuses on accents such as the crossed sides of this island and shiplap-esque detailing of the boards. Each home (and kitchen) uniquely expresses the family it is built for.

Pattern perfection paired with warm gold hardware and black and white, plus dramatic quartz countertop detail—this kitchen catches your eye the moment you walk through the door. The open concept and natural lighting add to the appeal.
Words About Smith Family Homes
One of the things we love about a Smith Family Homes kitchen is the color and patterns. Their clients’ contrast and bold choices add interest to the spaces while maintaining a timeless feel. Children who grow up in or visit these homes will reflect on vibrant, fond memories in spaces that reflect their loved ones. The attention to detail guarantees that homeowners will love their homes for years to come.
Words About brantingham builders
Classic, southern forever-homes are the specialty at Brantingham Builders, and the kitchens they design are no exception. Each element is chosen with care and with thoughts on selecting fixtures and finishes that will stand the test of time. The open layouts and vast countertop spaces are perfect for entertaining and holidays with the family.
Shaker-style cabinets with modern hardware, neutral flooring, and stainless appliances paired with the deep green island topped with butcher block give the space cozy vibes, making families and guests feel right at home.

Something that sets Corvin’s apart is that while they work closely with local homebuilders on projects big and small (insert this beautiful, affordable home from Hardin Homes, LLC), they also offer remodeling on much-loved homes. Their team can help clients select quality tiles, cabinetry, countertops, fixtures, and flooring—all within their budget.
Words About corvin's floors & Cabinets
Corvin’s always brings the cutting edge in design on cabinetry, flooring, tiles, and more. Walking through their showroom, we are impressed by the number of options their clients have. We’ve seen more waterfall islands in recent years, and Corvin’s has shown time and again that they are able to perfectly continue the patterns of marble and quartz as they flow over the sides of the countertops. The craftsmanship of the spaces they create is unparalleled, and their team can work with builders to finish out new homes or directly with homeowners.

Winged Wonders: Bird Watching in Elizabethtown
Nestled amidst the scenic beauty of Kentucky, Elizabethtown offers a haven for bird watchers eager to explore the diverse avian population that calls this region home. Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or a curious beginner, bird watching in Elizabethtown promises rewarding experiences and memorable encounters with nature’s winged wonders. Here’s your comprehensive guide to get started and make the most of your birdwatching adventures in this charming city:
Getting Started
EQUIP YOURSELF. Start with the basics—a pair of binoculars, a field guide to local birds, and comfortable outdoor attire suitable for the weather conditions.
CHOOSE YOUR SPOT. Elizabethtown boasts several prime bird-watching locations, including Freeman Lake Park, Saunders Springs Nature Preserve, and the Elizabethtown Nature Park. Each offers unique habitats and bird species to discover.
TIMING IS KEY. Birds are most active during the early morning hours and late afternoon. Plan your bird-watching excursions accordingly to maximize your chances of spotting a variety of species.
RESPECT NATURE. Remember to tread lightly and observe from a distance to avoid disturbing the birds or their habitats. Leave no trace and adhere to all park regulations.
Ten Tips for Bird Watching
LISTEN CLOSELY. Many birds are more easily identified by their calls than by their appearance. Pay attention to the unique songs and calls of different species.
BE PATIENT. Bird-watching requires patience and keen observation. Take your time and allow the birds to reveal themselves to you.
SCAN THE SKY. Keep an eye on the skies above for raptors, soaring birds, and migrating flocks. Birds of prey like hawks and eagles are frequently spotted in Elizabethtown.
WATCH FOR MOVEMENT. Birds are often detected by movement rather than by their stationary appearance. Scan trees, bushes, and grassy areas for any signs of motion.
LEARN BEHAVIOR PATTERNS. Understanding the behavior of different bird species can help you anticipate their movements and locate them more easily.
STAY STILL. Avoid sudden movements or loud noises that may startle the birds. Blend into your surroundings and remain still to avoid disturbing their natural behavior.
BRING A NOTEBOOK. Keep a birding journal to record your sightings, observations, and any notable behaviors or interactions you witness.
JOIN A GROUP. Consider joining a local bird-watching club or group to connect with fellow enthusiasts, share knowledge, and explore new birding locations together.
STUDY THE SEASONS. Bird populations and behaviors vary throughout the year.
Familiarize yourself with the seasonal patterns of migration, nesting, and feeding to enhance your bird-watching experiences.
ENJOY THE MOMENT. Take time to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the birds you encounter. Each sighting is a reminder of the intricate interconnectedness of nature.

“Hello! I’m Courtney Ballard, a multidisciplinary artist and designer. With a formal background in Fine Arts, I worked as a graphic artist, freelancer, and teacher until pursuing a solo studio practice. Heavily inspired by color, pattern, shape, and texture, I’m constantly exploring new ideas and processes. My work presents a balance of playfulness and precision, quirky and classic, using paint and digital mediums as modes of creativity to ignite curiosity and spark joy.
While graphic art is my first love, I’ve illustrated and designed on all scales, from small commission work to expansive large-scale murals, collaborating with partners near and far. I often find that my work shares a common space in both the design and art worlds, allowing my process to be simultaneously strategic and organic in nature.
I’m the owner of Hip South, my studio space in downtown Elizabethtown, where I work, meet with clients, and welcome my community.”

“I love anything that allows me to express my creativity. Painting, writing, and cross-stitching are my favorite mediums. I am the Director of Development at United Way of Central Kentucky where I work hard to help raise funds for twenty different non-profits within a five-county region.
I am a published author of two books called “The 60 Day Journey” and “This Haunted Girl”. I have proudly written for Elizabethtown Lifestyle Magazine many times. For five years, I owned and managed an exotic pet and farm animal rescue called “The Other Pets Animal Rescue” located in Germany and Kentucky. I have traveled to eleven countries, lived in Germany, Texas, Virginia, and Northern California. I was a ballet and tap dancer for almost 20 years and even danced in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In my spare time, I enjoy reading tarot cards and teaching meditation and breathwork classes. I also give great hugs.”

“I’m Alex, owner of Daughter Handwovens. I am a self-taught weaver, though I’ve learned much from other weavers along the way and have been weaving for nearly ten years. By weaving, I get to both create beauty and think critically with every throw of the shuttle. I am constantly making mistakes and doing things my own way, but seeing the finished fabric is always worth it.
I started this business as a way to reach women with messages of strength and beauty. The main inspiration for Daughter—both in name and mission- is Proverbs 31, which speaks of a woman who fears the Lord. A woman who, “dresses herself with strength” and, “the teaching of kindness is on her tongue,” and who, very fittingly, “makes linen garments and sells them.” This is a woman I admire, and as a Daughter of the King, it is who he is making me into day-by-day.”
