GIVE 270 TO GIVE AWAY FORD LIGHTNING, RARE BOURBON THROUGH UPCOMING RAFFLE After two years of offering the community a chance to win amazing bourbon prizes through charity raffles, Elizabethtown-based nonprofit Give 270 is set to host their biggest-ever raffle: Lightning N’ a Bottle. The raffle will feature an assortment of valuable bourbon prizes and, subjec t to the number of tickets sold, an opportunity to win the ultimate grand prize: a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Long Range and a bottle of Weller Full Proof (to be enjoyed separately). The raffle will also offer a total of 49 additional bourbon prizes, including a Buffalo Trace Antique Collec tion fivebottle set, a Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 year and many more. Made possible in part through the support of sponsor Lightsource bp, proceeds from the raffle will benefit Baptist Health Foundation Hardin and the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Foundation. With future elec tric vehicles from Ford and Lincoln relying on batteries manufac tured in Hardin County at the upcoming BlueOval SK Battery Park, the Lightning N’ a Bottle raffle not only celebrates a vital component of the region’s economic future but also provides support to crucial community organizations. “We’re hoping to not only garner a great deal of excitement around these prizes, but also create a great outcome for two crucial community organizations,” said Give 270 co-founder Kenny Rambo. If 3,500 to 5,000 tickets are sold for the raffle, an F-150 Lightning and a bottle of Weller Full Proof (to be enjoyed separately) will be given away as a grand prize, along with 49 bourbon prizes, including a Buffalo Trace Antique Collec tion five-bottle set, a Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 year, a Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 year, a Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 year, a Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot “B” 12 year, an Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year, a Weller Single Barrel, a Weller C.Y.P.B. and a Weller 12 year, along with 20 Weller Antique 107 prizes and 20 Weller Special Reserve prizes. If 2,000 to 3,499 tickets are sold, a cash prize of $50,000 and a bottle of Weller Full Proof will be given away as the grand prize instead of the F-150, and if 1,999 or less tickets sold, only the bourbon prizes, including a Weller Full Proof prize, will be given away. The raffle will take place live on Give 270’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on Wednesday, Oc t. 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets, which are $100, are available for purchase until 7 p.m. on the day of the drawing. There is no limit to the amount of tickets purchased per person, subjec t to availability. Tickets can be purchased and a full list of prizes can be viewed by visiting give270.org and clicking Lightning N’ a Bottle.
The Brantingham Market Review
As the old saying goes, “change is the only constant,” and we are thrilled to witness such positive change in our community. Here’s a quick update on the real estate front: Our community’s growth has been nothing short of spectacular. Every corner we turn, there seems to be a new structure, a blossoming garden, or a newly paved road. This physical transformation is merely a reflection of the human capital flowing into our community. New families, professionals, entrepreneurs, and others are flocking to our region, enriching it with their presence. Economic vibrancy is also palpable. The influx of new businesses—from chic boutiques to state-ofthe-art co-working spaces—is a testament to our community’s ever-evolving commercial landscape. Not to mention, the gastronomic panorama of our community has expanded too. New restaurants have set up shop, those already here and those under construction, catering to a myriad of palates and offering places to gather and celebrate. Despite the national trend of rising interest rates, our local real estate market continues to show tenacity. The demand for homes continues making it evident that the intrinsic value of living in our community is undeniable. While interest rates are an essential factor in purchasing decisions, the ongoing influx of residents and businesses indicates that our community’s offerings outweigh macroeconomic shifts. If you’re considering making a move or simply curious about the value of your property, now might be a good time to explore the opportunities this growth presents. To our long-standing residents, thank you for your continued trust and support. And to the new faces in town, welcome! Together, we’re writing a new chapter in our community’s rich history.

GIVE 270 GIVES
$1 MILLION THROUGH BOURBON RAFFLES + COMEDY SKETCHES
For the past seven years, Elizabethtown-based nonprofit Give 270 has consistently raised funds for a variety of crucial organizations and causes in the Elizabethtown-Fort Knox MSA. But, whereas some nonprofits might opt to raise money through golf scrambles or 5K events, volunteers with Give 270 are more interested in engaging the community through rare bourbon raffles and absurd sketch comedy shows. Launched in 2016, Give 270 is led by an all-volunteer board and supports community, economic, and workforce development in central Kentucky by raising funds for other area nonprofit organizations and local initiatives. Through signature events and raffles, Give 270 recently hit a remarkable milestone: raising $1 million for community organizations and initiatives. If hitting the $1 million mark wasn’t exciting enough, Give 270 is hosting its biggest-ever charity raffle: Lightning N’ a Bottle. Set for Oc t. 25, the raffle will feature an assortment of valuable bourbon prizes and, subjec t to the number of tickets sold, an opportunity to win the ultimate grand prize: a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Long Range and a bottle of Weller Full Proof (to be enjoyed separately). All proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Foundation and Baptist Health Foundation Hardin. “We are beyond excited for this upcoming raffle and for the opportunity to support two significant community organizations,” said Give 270 co-founder Kenny Rambo. “Over the years, it has been humbling to witness this nonprofit consistently grow and provide funds for important initiatives by efficiently translating the philanthropic spirit of individuals and our community into effec tive fundraising campaigns.” Though the Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Long Range grand prize featured in the Lightning n’ a Bottle raffle makes it Give 270’s biggest-ever raffle, giving away rare and valuable bourbon prizes is nothing new for the nonprofit. In fac t, it has become a weekly occasion.
29
Since 2021, Give 270 has hosted Whiskey Wednesdays online raffle events, which provide ticket buyers with the opportunity to win valuable bourbon prizes by purchasing $5 tickets. The nonprofit is now in the midst of hosting its eighth round of weekly Whiskey Wednesdays raffles. The most recent round of Whiskey Wednesdays provided funds for United Way of Central Kentucky as they celebrate 22 years of providing support for community organizations and programs that address education, financial stability, and health and basic needs in the local region. Give 270 has also hosted several Bourbon Strong raffles, which offer more chances at winning prizes with limited tickets at a higher ticket price. In addition, Give 270 has partnered with local liquor stores to offer exclusive store pick bottles for charity initiatives. The most recent Bourbon Strong raffle benefited Honor Flight Bluegrass, a Louisville-based organization that pays tribute to the sacrifices made by American veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War by providing them with no-cost flights to Washington, D.C., and a first-class, police-escorted tour to each of their respec tive memorials to honor their service.
But Give 270 is about more than just charitable gaming. The nonprofit also raises money for the community through an annual sketch comedy show, The Eric and Joe Show. Featuring original sketches, music, comedic video shorts, and more, the family-friendly show is set to once again take place at the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown Nov. 17 through 19. “One of the great things about the work we do with Give 270 is that we are able to provide engaging fundraising opportunities for a wide variety of individuals,” said Eric Clemens, Give 270 board chair and Eric and Joe Show co-founder. “Some people like to try their hand at winning bourbon, some like to take their family and friends to the Eric and Joe Show and some simply want to find an avenue to give back to an organization they care about. Regardless, it all goes into providing funding for worthy causes.”

Hailing from a lineage steeped in farming traditions, Terry Wimp and his family have a deep understanding of the discipline and determination it takes to make a living off of the land. They also know that as agriculture continues to evolve, it is often better to embrace new developments and grow than to dismiss innovation and falter. That is why when Wimp was approached by utility-scale solar development company Lightsource bp to lease a portion of his Cecilia property for a new project known as Telesto Solar, he saw an opportunity. Producing corn and soybeans on his family’s farm, Wimp Farms, Wimp said the opportunity provides a way to diversify his income and adds a new level of financial security for his family. “This land means a lot to me, and ensuring that it remains in the family for as long as possible has always been a goal of mine,” Wimp said. “I’ve been farming my whole life, and I’m certainly passionate about agriculture, but maintaining a steady income year-to-year from farming is never a sure bet. Leasing a portion of our land for solar strengthens our farm operation for years to come.” The proposed Telesto Solar project is a 128-megawatt dc solar facility located on approximately 650 acres of privately-owned land in Hardin County. The energy generated through the project will deliver clean power to the 138 kV East Kentucky Power Cooperative substation. The project is expected to pay approximately $7.5 million over its lifespan to local government, local schools, and more, and is expected to create 150 to 200 direct jobs during peak construction and hundreds of indirect jobs. bp is developing the Telesto Solar project and has engaged Lightsource bp to advance development activities for the project. bp has been America’s largest energy investor since 2005 and is developing a pipeline of solar projects across the U.S. Lightsource bp is a global leader in the development and management of solar energy and energy storage projects through a 50:50 joint venture with bp. Lightsource bp and bp are excited to become a part of the community. They have already announced a $1 million community fund to support local needs in Elizabethtown and have jumped in with two feet on helping to fund a new long-term economic impact study commissioned by the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce, supporting the Home for Hope campaign with the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Foundation and more. “The folks at Lightsource bp have proven their willingness to be quality community partners, and I’m eager for this project to see the light of day,” Wimp said. “This project works for the needs of me and my family. It provides steady revenue without permanently altering the potential to farm this land that means so much to us. It’s a win-win.”

CELEBRATING THANKFULNESS & FRIENDSHIP WITH LITTLES

Blessing A PRAYER FROM ST. JAMES SCHOOL
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gift of life, difficulty, and love. Sometimes things come up and we forget how amazing it is To just simply be here. Oftentimes, we see difficulty as something bad, But You use it to shape and teach us. I am very grateful to be surrounded by love, Not only from my family, but also from my friends. Thank you, Lord, for my life. Amen. —Prayer written by Payton Lusk, 7th Grade, Saint James Catholic School edited by Sister Lucia Christi, SJS Middle School Theology Teacher
FRIENDSGIVING
Friendsgiving is an opportunity to gather our kids and their friends for a celebration of thankfulness and friendship. Whether four, fourteen, or forty kids, throwing parties for children might just be my favorite thing. Giselle Smith here, publisher and creative director of Elizabethtown Lifestyle. In another life, before local magazines and volunteering to plan events for non-profits, I planned weddings. These days that translates into childsize celebrations for Henry and his friends. Here’s what you need for this Thanksgiving-inspired celebration for your own little turkey: LOW TABLES: You can create a table from a piece of plywood and cinder blocks or buy them to have for parties. Add linens for a fun, fall pop of color. SEATING: A lot of times, we have table sets with tiny chairs or even little lawn chairs that can be mixed and matched for child-sized seating. Use what you have, or pick up small hay bales from your favorite craft store. TABLE DECOR: Fall decor doesn’t always have a long shelf life with Christmas looming, so pull the best from the house and make it worthwhile. All of the table decor shown, from glass pumpkins to lamps to wooden angels, is from FINE House & Garden. When purchasing pieces, imagine items that will stand the test of time. CHINA: We love pretty place settings with plates, bowls, napkins, and glassware, but if we were hosting this for real, we would probably skip the china and the hassle of associated cleanup. Festive paper plates would work just as well for a no-stress option. LIGHTING: Candles are cute, but don’t light them with kids. If the sun is setting on your celebration, adding skinny lamps will give a warm glow outdoors.
SPECIAL THANKS TO THE THOMAS FAMILY FOR SHARING THEIR HOME AND HOSTING FRIENDSGIVING + THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR TINY GUESTS IN ATTENDANCE.

WHAT TO SERVE FOR FRIENDSGIVING Chick-fil-A mac’n’cheese, anyone? We no joke smoked a turkey for this shindig with mashed potatoes, farmer’s market green beans, and other yummy sides... The kids actually didn’t eat much, although the drive-through macaroni was their first pick. When serving children, it’s best to check in with each of their parents to check for food allergies and preferences. When in doubt, choose a potluck-style menu so that each parent brings at least one thing their child will eat. Serving kids is a bit more complicated than passing serving dishes: You can expect to make each plate. We did cute place cards to be sure each young guest was seated next to a friend their age.
AS EASY AS PUMPKIN PIE Leaf, pumpkin, and turkey cookie cutters are easy to come by. Cutting fun shapes from Kroger-bought pumpkin pie makes for an easy and festive dessert. Just add whipped cream and maybe vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle to be extra fancy. 43

LITTLE TURKEY HANDPRINT CRAFTS So simple: buy small canvases—they come in packs of ten for 8x10—and temper paint in brown, red, orange, and yellow, plus an assortment of brushes, google eyes, and an adhesive tape roller. Gather the children on the porch, and then, one at a time, paint palms brown and stripes of feathers in red, yellow, and orange across the fingers to stamp on the canvases. Let the prints dry and add the googly eyes with tape adhesive, then paint waddles and beaks. Temper paints take a half hour to an hour to dry, so everyone should be able to take their crafts home.

“I grew up in a family that set a fabulous example and foundation for serving others and creating connections with people from all walks of life. My grandfather was known for telling stories and ending them with a call to the family to “go out and do some good”. Opportunity brought me home for the second half of my life; I want to help make Hardin County into a place where everyone is accepted, nurtured, and celebrated. Quite frankly, life is hard, and I want to find ways for our community neighbors who are struggling to thrive and succeed. Making others happy makes me happy.” —JOY SWOPE
“Sometimes financial, sometimes social, or sometimes personal, but you always receive a handsome return that’s greater than your original gift.” —ROY KEITH
“It is probably selfish; however, I give back to this community so my children will want to raise their families here, at home.”
“I give because God calls me to be generous with my time, talents, and treasure. We especially love giving to the Baptist Health Foundation Hardin and St. James School because they both make our community stronger.”
“My family inspired me to give from an early age. My dad was a truck driver, and my mom worked the welcome desk at an innercity hospital. We didn’t have much, but both my parents would give the shirts off their backs to struggling people. They embodied true Christianity, and when I give to those in need, I honor them. They raised four girls, including my special needs sister, so I choose to support Project Learn, which cares for special needs adults. I urge everyone to support this worthy organization.”
—ROSE HARRIS
“I think it’s important to give back to the community because I’ve been blessed in many ways. Giving back of my time, talent, and treasures allows me to be a blessing to others. The world can sometimes be a difficult place, and sometimes people are put in difficult situations. It’s important to me to help in those situations when I can.”

“Danelle and I choose to support the ECTC Foundation because we have faith in our community college’s mission to offer an affordable and exceptional education that will have a lasting impact on future generations. We understand that the success of our community relies on the quality of its workforce, and ECTC plays a crucial role in providing the necessary solutions.” —BRANDON FOGLE
“The aftermath of things that happened to my mother before I was born affected her for years and thus had a negative effect on my childhood. I’ve seen firsthand how a bit of help and guidance in the right direction can change the course of someone’s life and the future of their family for generations to come.”
—GISELLE SMITH
“I give my time to help with non-profit organizations because I believe in the power of giving back to my community and making a positive impact in the lives of others. It brings me deep fulfillment and joy to contribute my skills and resources towards meaningful causes that aim to create a better world for everyone.” —TIM HAHN
“I give because of the reward. Seems selfish at first glance assuming the personal reward, but it’s the innate fulfillment that drives me to give. I want to see children having the best education, I want to see sporting arenas teaching teamwork, I want to know I’m helping the hungry have access to food, and everything in between. At the end of the day, it’s feeling the good that comes from giving. I’ve learned it’s a fulfillment no tangible thing can achieve.”
—JUSTIN JENKINS
WHY I Giving Tuesday is near, and we hope giving to local causes is on your radar. If you’re looking for inspiration to give back in the community this holiday season, or year-round, we’ve collected a series of personal quotes from members of the community on why they give back their time, talents, and funds.
“Being a Court Appointed Special Advocate gives me an opportunity to work with children and young adults in foster care who are in less than fortunate situations through no fault of their own. With a CASA, these children have a person who will not only form a supportive relationship with them but give them a voice in the courtroom. CASAs always advocate for what is in the best interest of the child. It is an honor for me to serve as a CASA.” —VICKI SCHMIDT
“I give because it empowers and supports our community to grow together in positive ways. It is the foundation of a solid and healthy society. Giving reminds me I am fortunate to have opportunities to share with others who might not have the same abilities. By giving, I hope to encourage others to keep trying so they can realize their future successes.” —LEEANNA DOWAN
“While we support many causes, we are dog lovers, and Friends of Hardin County Animal Shelter (FOHCAS) stands out and is so important because of what they stand for and what they do for animals in need in our community.”
—JILL THOMAS
“I am from a family of eleven, a daughter of very SERIOUS parents that incorporated much love in my life and the obedience to God first. They sent me through twelve years of Catholic school. A Godfirst attitude seemed to just come naturally. I thank God every day for my parents, who sacrificed so much to form my mind to intentionally listen for others’ needs, how to work hard in spite of how you feel, and to show charity as much as you can. Faith has truly kept me looking for joy in all the right places. I find JOY in this community. St. James has been a perfect place where my Heart rests. That’s why I found it the perfect place for my three Girls. St. James has given them the background of thinking of others and living outside of yourself.”
—JULIA DUPLESSIS
“I love being a part of the Elizabethtown Police Foundation because we get to show our appreciation for the officers who take care of all of us. We are blessed to live in a safe city with incredible leadership. Our goal is to be there for the officers, their families, and the department in any way we can to help support their goals.”

This year’s Heartland Homecoming Parade took place Saturday, August 26, with community leaders, civic organizations, first responders, school marching bands, athletes, and local businesses led by the Grand Marshall. Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Carl Ripken Jr. participated in the parade with Mayor Gregory, waving at dedicated fans, along with those looking to catch pieces of candy and admire the passing parade floats. The “World of Sports” theme was fitting, given Ripken’s involvement with the Elizabethtown Sports Park. The parade was a familiar event for residents, and the presence of a baseball legend underscored the city’s ongoing commitment to reinvent this annual tradition and truly knock it out of the park.

OUR ANNUAL HOLIDAY DECORATING GUIDE IS HERE FEATURING DECOR + ACCESSORIES FROM FINE HOUSE & GARDEN AND CHRISTMAS TREES BY ELIZABETHTOWN FLORIST 53
At
every magazine event, small business open house, or community fundraiser, we meet new faces and make new friends who will be calling Elizabethtown “home” for the holidays for the first time. There’s a reason a “first Christmas” is a milestone for a baby, for newlyweds, or for new homeowners: something about the holidays and the decorations and the people that gather paints an unmatched picture of home. This feature is about the inspiration that comes from this feeling, whether you’re celebrating one of these milestones or are a longtime holiday party veteran.

When it comes to holiday table advice, we lean toward “the more the merrier.” Our friends at FINE House & Garden agree. Layers of your favorite collected decorations, new finds, fresh greens, unique candles ... any inkling of minimalism we crave the rest of the year goes out the window. Cloth napkins are the easiest place to start (they instantly dress up the table without necessarily adding to the formality), and you can work your way out from there. Add a napkin ring, a seasonal place card, an unexpected holiday party favor, and glassware (fresh stems or old favorites), and we can bet it’s nearly complete. But most importantly: the right mix will feel like home.
When it comes to holiday table advice, we lean toward

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF LAUGHS WITH THE ERIC & JOE SHOW For the past decade, Elizabethtown-based comedy duo Eric Clemens and Joe Bennett have been presenting an annual family-friendly variety show full of absurd sketches, short films, dance routines, live music, and much more. Started by Elizabethtown natives and lifelong friends, the show has grown from a one-night-only event to a three-day extravaganza and yearly tradition for locals and out-of-towners alike. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Eric and Joe Show, presented by Magnolia Bank, will take center stage at the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown from Nov. 17 through 19. “When Eric and I first started performing sketches together, I never once thought that it would not only keep going for 10 years, but also just keep growing from year-to-year,” Bennett said. “What started out as a silly idea has become something that so many people actively look forward to every year. We are all a little baffled by it.” Though the Eric and Joe Show features a variety of original comedy sketches and pre-recorded skits, the show is united by a common theme, which varies from year to year. This year, the duo’s focus will orbit around the theme “Space Out.” Eric and Joe are supported in the show by a full cast and crew, and the show will feature live music from the Mark Melloan Band. The show also serves as a fundraiser for community charities, nonprofits, and initiatives. As a Give 270 fundraiser, the Eric and Joe Show has donated more than $60,000 to local nonprofits since 2013. Proceeds from this year’s show will go to Time to Shine, a ministry serving the special needs community in central Kentucky. “After a decade of doing this, our audience has come to recognize that when they purchase a ticket to the show, they’re not just getting an evening of entertainment, but they’re also giving back to the community,” Clemens said. KOSAIR
FOR KIDS Baptist Health Hardin recognizes Kosair for Kids by renaming NICU
If birth is a time of joy and a cause for celebrating new life, rebirth must be even more heartwarming and exciting. In September, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Baptist Health Hardin, was about to undergo a rebirth of its own. Just as families gather in the NICU waiting room with great emotion and expec tation of events to come, so too, did a large crowd gather on a postcard-perfec t mid-September day to witness a special announcement. The day marked a major milestone and a new start for the NICU, which would receive a new name in honor of long-time supporter Kosair for Kids. As the crowd swelled, so did the joy ful noise, as Baptist Health system, hospital and foundation leaders, along with leaders from Kosair for Kids, mingled with members of other charitable organizations and the community at large. Also present were members of the RIASOK Shrine Club and Knights of Columbus, who have raised a combined total of more than $800,000 for Kosair for Kids since 1958. As the stark white paper neatly taped over the new sign was torn down, the new name, Kosair for Kids NICU, was revealed to enthusiastic applause. “The fragile and premature infants from our area can continue to receive excellent care, close to home, as a result of faithful supporters such as Kosair for Kids,” said Robert Ramey, hospital president. “As the region’s only Level II NICU, the unit is such a blessing for local families and helps ease the strain on them.” “This gift will be recognized at our hospitals with our first-ever service line naming, ‘Baptist Health Mother & Baby Care supported by Kosair for Kids,’” said Roy Lowdenback, Baptist Health system vice president, Philanthropy. “We are deeply appreciative of this generous gift to underscore our efforts to provide resources and support for eligible expec ting moms from pregnancy through postpartum.”

What’s IN A Name? Names given at birth are carefully chosen —and not only for the beautiful ring they have. A name hints at the legacy left to us by our ancestors. A name stamps us with an indelible mark of identity and a larger sense of belonging. A name sets an expec tation for us—a standard to which we can rise. A name is both who we are and who we hope to become. The significance of the NICU’s new name is profound. The name Kosair for Kids conveys an overwhelmingly positive meaning, and one that is associated with a 100 -year legacy of caring, compassion, and advocacy for children. The new name honors the past, reminding all who see it of the generosity Kosair for Kids has bestowed upon Baptist Health Foundation Hardin, which has direc tly benefitted patient care in the NICU. Kosair for Kids has invested more than $1 million in pediatric services at Baptist Health Hardin since 2016, including significant funding that was integral to opening the hospital’s N ICU, the region’s only Level II N ICU, among other improvements like new equipment that helps critically ill babies get the treatment they need close to home. This name, given in gratitude and recognition of Kosair for Kids’ long-standing support, also sets the bar for the NICU’s future potential. Kosair for Kids also announced that day, that it would be making a $5 million gift to the Baptist Health system’s foundation. It is a gift that will support Baptist Health hospitals system-wide in their Mother Baby services. A portion of the gift – the largest philanthropic gift the foundation has ever received – will be direc ted to Baptist Health Foundation Hardin, where it will be invested in new equipment and new physician-led initiatives that will help advance care for the hospital’s youngest and most fragile patients. Kosair for Kids is a name that resonates with the community because of the significant impac ts the organization has had on children. The name also fosters reassurance to the many families who rely on Baptist Health Hardin to deliver exceptional care to their babies.
Jessi and Jared Clemons can attest to that high quality care. Jessi delivered a baby girl, Jorja Mae, in 2017. Though every aspec t of her pregnancy rolled along according to plan, her delivery was not as smooth. Because Jessi was still in labor 24 hours after her water broke, physicians were concerned about the baby potentially acquiring an infec tion. Jorja Mae was placed in the NICU for three days as a precautionary measure to give her the best chance of leaving the hospital strong and ready to face the world. Jorja Mae was present with her mother at the hospital for the big announcement. (Her father, Jared, was unable to attend.) Jorja Mae’s photo is even featured on the new sign at the south end of the hospital’s parking garage. Though Jessi said Jorja Mae felt a bit overwhelmed by the large crowd, she definitely saw a sense of pride in her daughter for being a literal poster child for the NICU, having potentially left a healthier baby because of her stay. Clemons acknowledged that the gift has positive ripple effec ts. “I feel like the impac t is far-reaching,” said Jessi. “It’s not just within the walls of the hospital. It goes out into the community. I look at the long-term. It’s great for the kids as infants, but those kids become produc tive members of society. Kosair for Kids has a hand in that being able to happen. It’s not just how infants or mothers are affec ted. It affec ts the whole community.”
As Baptist Health Hardin’s NICU continues to advance its technology and capacity for advanced care, babies will reap the benefits of this gift by getting a better chance at a healthier start and potentially a healthier life as they grow into adulthood. The re-naming of the NICU is a celebration of rebirth. The name itself is a thank you note. It is a glowing tribute to Kosair for Kids, whose generosity will result in advanced care that contributes to healthier beginnings for babies born at Baptist Health Hardin and other Baptist Health hospitals for years to come.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Heartland recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who advocate on behalf of abused, neglected, and dependent children under the protection of the Hardin County and LaRue County Family Court systems. CASA of the Heartland gives our sincerest thanks to those who joined us for our annual CASA Farm to Fork. This year’s menu featured delicious meats grilled by the Elizabethtown Lion’s Club and sides by Tony York’s on Main. Recipes included locally grown, farm-fresh foods from Stith Family Farms, Solway Farms, Modern Heritage Farm, Peterson Family Farms, Hinton’s Orchard, Windy Hills Farm, and Tate Cattle Company; florals designed by Giselle Smith came from local farms, including Fallen Maple Farm and Thomas Dairy Farm and Market. The CASA Farm to Fork benefits CASA of the Heartland and provides caring advocates for local children under petition with the family courts.
WORDS FROM THE CASA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MICHELLE KAIL:
“We are so incredibly grateful for all of the support that our community has shown CASA of the Heartland. Because of the generosity we have been shown, we’ve raised nearly $70,000 with the CASA Farm to Fork. This support allows us to continue to serve the most vulnerable children in our community, and we could not do that without the support from all of our sponsors, donors, guests, vendors, staff, board, and volunteers.”

COMMUNITY GATHERING HIGHLIGHTS ECTC FOUNDATION AND BAPTIST HEALTH FOUNDATION HARDIN IMPACT On the evening of Sept. 19, a crowd gathered at Elizabethtown venue The House on Helm to support, celebrate and learn more about two major pillars of the community’s philanthropic structure. During the event, both organizations provided updates to attendees on recent noteworthy accomplishments, plans for the future and the important programming made possible through donor support. Attendees at the event also learned about a new way to support both organizations: the Lightning N’ a Bottle charity raffle hosted by Elizabethtown nonprofit Give 270. Set for Oct. 25, the raffle will feature an assortment of valuable bourbon prizes and, subject to the number of tickets sold, an opportunity to win the ultimate grand prize: a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Long Range and a bottle of Weller Full Proof (to be enjoyed separately). Made possible in part through the support of sponsor Lightsource bp, proceeds from the raffle will benefit Baptist Health Foundation Hardin and the ECTC Foundation. The raffle will take place live on Give 270’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased and a full list of prizes can be viewed by visiting give270.org and clicking Lightning N' a Bottle.
