Restaurant Poster Process

Through reading and analysing the assignment brief, I firstly attempted to locate an idea that would accommodate all the food groups. These food groups’ includes a type of vegetable, meat, fish, fruit, and bread alongside an accompanying drink. Researching inspiration and potential ideas, I came across sculptures such as those pictured below.

Styled to match normal, everyday objects, the overall effect was highly effective. Therefore, I began to sketch and design potential ideas manually. Through this, the decision was made to construct a pair of glasses to accompany the relevant restaurant name, “A Delicious Sight. Each food group and their employed food can be viewed below.

Vegetable- Carrot Fruit- Kiwi Bread- Breadsticks Fish- Prawn Meat- Ham Dairy- Cheese Drink- Cordial (frozen)

Through rough sketches, I determined where each food group would be situated. Stronger materials were employed to make up the glasses foundation. The primary areas that needed to be structurally effective were the glasses rims and arms. Therefore, the carrot, breadsticks and cheese were employed to ensure this. Alongside these adopted food groups, ham was attached to the frames of the glasses, whilst kiwi slices were exercised to work as the lenses. Subsequently, a singular prawn was used to form the bridge between these two lenses. Some example sketches can be viewed below and on the following page. Although most were done by hand, the show sketches were done via Photoshop.

After purchasing all the necessary ingredients, the sculptor construction process could commence. Employing super glue and cocktail sticks, the glasses began to take shape. Connecting all the individual parts together was done incredibly carefully, ensuring the materials would not break. To incorporate a drink, I obtained a mustache ice tray so I could freeze water in a specific shape. Cordial was also added in order to make it coloured. Wanting to make my editing process as easy as possible, I purchased sheets of white card take could be attached together to construct a white floor and background. Situated next a window, a sufficient amount of light could be accessed for my images. The contact sheets for this shoot can be viewed on the following pages.

Editing Process After completing the selection process, I was left with one final image, ready to be edited. After adjusting the clarity and saturation, the image was opened up into Photoshop. This is where the dpi was changed to 300, and the sizing altered to meet the A4 requirements. Subsequently the process of whitening the background commenced using Photoshop’s Brush Tool (as found in the tool panel). Setting its colouring to white, I began to carefully work around my sculptor, developing a studio look. Once this long process had been completed and the images colouring corrected, text could be added. After selecting the text tool, I used the Colour Picker tool to match the texts colour to that of the image. Therefore, for the “A Delicious Sight” text, the colour of the ham was selected. For the adjoining “Restaurant” text, the colouring for the kiwi was chosen. Print screen images documenting the editing process can be viewed on the following page. The final, edited product can be viewed on the next page. Due to the images A4 sizing, a temporary border has been added to one version of the poster to show its edges.
