Application

The End of Year Show is an opportunity for students to reflect on their own work, the work of others, as well as their time studying at Leeds College of Art. Additionally, anyone who attends the event will form their own opinions of each individual piece of work, and will also have the chance to reflect on the exhibited projects.

The audience will be a range of different people from different backgrounds. There will be a large percentage visiting from the creative industries, therefore the exhibition itself must be memorable and outstanding.

The tone of voice is thought-provoking and welcoming. The idea of being able to reflect on the past is something which everyone can relate to.

The logo has been designed with several variants in mind. The chosen enlarged logo has been used and applied to a range of different materials.

Application of the logo to exterior

The flyer/postcard has been designed to enable each of the recipients to see their reflection when they read it. This mirrors the concept of the End of Year Show and applies an added element of interaction. The design also provides a preview of what is to be expected from the interior of the End of Year Show.

As Leeds College of Art highly value the use of their mosaic tiles, the incorporation of them within this design not only reflects their branding guidelines, but also explores the idea of a mirror being shattered into pieces, therefore representing each individual student and their work.

Interactive Wall The interactive wall allows visitors to demonstrate their own creativity by creating words and images using reflective tiles. The wall will act as a physcial representation of the theme reflection, as users can turn each tile around by hand to reveal a mirrored surface. The reverse of each tile has the potential to be either coloured or black. Once the user has created their desired outcome, they would be asked to use their phone/tablet to photograph themselves in the reflection and post their response to the Leeds College of Art Twitter using #ReflectionLCA.

The 3D prototype has been created to portray a miniature visualisation of the interactive wall. It also conveys an alternative way to engage with it, by providing a handle which can be turned to move a row at a time.

Research has also been carried out into the possibility of creating a motorised interactive wall in collaboration with the Woodwork department. This would allow the tiles to rotate without having to touch them, therefore the interactive element would simply be asking each visitor to post their photograph to Twitter.

E-Invite The design of the E-invite is consistent with all of the materials produced. The design could be pushed further by creating an animation which could also be used to subtly hint at the interactive wall. Or a blog could be created which all recipients could follow. This would have images and videos to show the wall being built in preparation for the opening night private view.
