Which ones will you include on your summer bucket list?
Fabulous Festivals
Celebrate the 4th of July weekend in Ellicottville and experience the annual Summer Music Festival July 4–6. This year’s weekend kicks off Friday evening with a Top of the Mountain Party at Holiday Valley. Saturday and Sunday include headline, slopeside performances by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra with a fireworks finale, the Gin Blossoms, and Nelson Starr and The Benjamins. Bring a blanket, chairs and picnic to the concerts and make it a relaxing evening. Get tickets at www.ellicottvilleny.com. Griffis Sculpture Park’s Summer Festival is happening again on Aug. 17, when the park will come alive with music, art and children’s activities. The events take place around the stage area, which requires a slightly challenging walk uphill behind the park’s gatehouse. Walk the park’s woods and fields to see more than 250 large-scale sculptures. Then kick back and relax with some live music. For more information, visit www.griffispark.org.
Family Fun
The Ellicottville Championship Rodeo rides into town July 3–6. More than 350 rodeo athletes from all over the world compete in a variety of events that pit man versus beast. Kids can look forward to “riding” in the Stick Horse
Race. Gates open early so folks can enjoy the rodeo midway. For information, visit www.ellicottvillerodeo.com. Come to the village July 19–20 to experience the Americana Folk Art Fair, featuring a variety of talented, regional artists producing and selling artwork, live music at the Village Gazebo and a cool folk art auction This event is free and great for a day of family fun. For information, call (716) 378- 0916. Whether you prefer camping in your RV, tent, rustic cabin or luxury retreat, the Ellicottville area has you covered. Choose from the unspoiled, natural setting of Allegany State Park, the many area campgrounds or the newest glamping resort.
Groovy Tunes
There’s nothing like jazz and the blues on a warm summer weekend, and July 25-27 ushers in the annual Jazz & Blues Weekend. A variety of performers take to stages in the street, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Park your car and stroll up and down the sidewalks to choose your favorite singers and bands. Stay tuned for the 2014 schedule on our Entertainment page. Enjoy the free Gazebo Series of concerts on Thursday evenings all summer long! Performances are held July 10–Aug. 7, 7–9 p.m., at the Village Gazebo. Bring a chair, a blanket and a picnic and enjoy the sounds of The Lake Effect, Wood Candy, Mirage with Vanessa Elder, Porcelain Train and Stone Row.
