July 11 ASP “Rock the Park”

The air is warm. The sun is out. The grass is green. This can only mean one thing—summer is here and it’s time to tee off in the Enchanted Mountains! Golfers can choose to stay in Ellicottville or take a short drive to enjoy this sport—or better yet, check out all the courses. Holiday Valley offers a fantastic 18-hole, par 70, Double Black Diamond course surrounded by spectacular scenery. Greens fees are as follows: Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- 18 holes $46, 9 holes $30; Monday through Thursday -18 holes $34, 9 holes $24. After 4 p.m. on Monday-Saturday or after 2 p.m. on Sunday is $24. An 18-hole replay with cart is $30 and 9-hole replay with cart is $20. Youth ages 16 and under enjoy the junior rate of $24. Cart rentals are available for $16 for 18 holes and $10 for 9 holes. Club rentals are $22 for 18 holes and $12 for 9 holes. Looking to improve your swing? Try golf lessons! Holiday Valley offers lessons for all ages and abilities, led by Steve Carney, a Master PGA Golf Professional. Why not invest a little to improve and enjoy a lot? A half-hour lesson is $40, a one-hour lesson is $70 and a couple’s lesson is $90. If the younger set in your family is interested in golf, consider Holiday Valley’s Junior Golf Clinic, scheduled throughout July and August. Village Planning Board Approves Dina’s Reno Asserts: No C of O until All Conditions Are Met approved the restaurant’s plans to expand into the former Holiday Shoppe space as presented without change. However, the board made a particular effort to emphasize that, given a few recent experiences with other properties, going forward, it will not allow certificates of occupancy (C of O) to be issued for any construction project until all of its conditions are met and construction is entirely complete. This condition was placed on all projects approved and pending during the planning board’s meeting on Tuesday, July 8, and will be included for all projects in the future. The Ellicottville Central Schools Board of Education unanimously elected Carl Calarco to the position of president of the board. Connie Hellwig was unanimously elected vice president.

Calarco was nominated by Roger Spell, who had been serving as president until the vote at the Tuesday, July 1 board meeting. During the same meeting, the board’s two newest members, Nicole Klein and Michelle Cortez, were administered the oath of office for their five-year terms. The meeting, the first of the 2014-15 school year, served as the board’s annual reorganizational meeting. The newly seated board, chaired by Calarco, reappointed officers, approved the 2014-15 calendar of board meetings, reauthorized officials to perform assigned duties, approved school lunch prices, authorized substitute teacher pay rates, and reestablished See ECS Board page 5
