It’s finally here — this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16–17, the annual Taste of Ellicottville will light up your taste buds like never before. Local eateries will be serving up tasting-size portions of delectable dishes to an eager crowd of foodies — you know who you are! The Taste of Ellicottville, one of the most popular events of the season, attracts visitors and locals from around the region as well as Canada. What better way to explore the offerings of Ellicottville’s fine restaurants than by sampling a little bit of everything café style along the village’s historic streets? From noon to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, you can savor new flavors or indulge in old favorites all along the sidewalks of Washington and Monroe streets, where establishments will set up tables and tents to create a festive, carnival-like atmosphere. Addresses Historic Overlay, Changes to 1887 Building

Ellicottville Village Board and others in the context of reviewing a request by the new owners of the building who hope to convert the building into condominium units. In order to do so, they want remove the rear addition to the building and create an underground parking garage with a new entrance on Maybee Alley for use by tenants. At its last board meeting, board member Bob Brogcinski asked for documentation verifying that the rear addition can be removed without impacting the historic nature of the building. At Mayor Charles Coolidge’s request, Nancy Rogan, chair of the Village Planning Board, and Jack Kramer, a member of that board and chair of the Village Zoning Board of Appeals, attended the meeting to clarify the issue. Route 219 North to Get Facelift Soon Remilling to Repair Road Surface, Road to Remain Open

Anyone who drove north from Ellicottville to Springville last winter will attest to the treacherous road conditions on Route 219 between Beaver

Pumpkinville Readies for Fall Visitors New Attractions and Old Favorites If it’s time for Fall family fun, it’s time for Pumpkinville! The fun begins Sept. 13 and runs through Oct. 31. The 200-acre farm is the oldest continuously working pumpkin farm in New York State. Pumpkinville, the brainchild of Dan and Diane Pawlowski is

Village Planning Board Sets Public Hearings New Spa and Relocated Restaurant on the Table

During its meeting on Aug. 12, the Ellicottville Village Planning Board scheduled public hearings to allow public comment on three special use permits. The hearings, to be held at its Sept. 9 meeting, are
for accessory buildings on the properties of two private residences (1 Adams St. and 39 Martha St.) and for a proposed new spa at 32 East Washington St. in the space next door to Betsy’s Consignment. The new spa, tentatively named the Ellicottville Salt
Cave, is the brainchild of masseuse Tracy Draper, who said she was introduced to the salt spa concept while living in North Carolina. Draper said she plans to offer massage and halotherapy, or salt therapy, which is said to help reduce See Planning Board, page 3
