April 11, 2014 Supervisor John Burrell Town of Ellicottville P.O. Box 600 Ellicottville, NY 14731 Re: 2014 Transportation Alternatives Program: Ellicottville-Great Valley Pedestrian Bicycle Trail Project Dear Supervisor Burrell: Since the beginning of trail project development, we have been on record as a staunch supporter. We know Ellicottville-Great Valley needs a safe, accessible trail for walkers and bikers to connect the many destinations in our year-round resort community. We host over one million visitors annually. That presents some vehicle parking issues during peak times such as Fall Festival and the ski season. The planned trail offers an alternative travel mode, which will ease parking congestion, while reducing vehicle pollution and noise. We strongly support the efforts of the Town of Ellicottville and EVGV Trail Committee in the application for Transportation Alternatives Program funding from the New York State Department of transportation. If funded, the money being requested will be used to develop a pedestrian and bicycle route, which will link the Ellicottville Central School to the Ellicottville Library, Ellicottville Park and the Ellicottville Town Center. This route will increase the transportation options local residents and visitors can use to include safe bicycle and pedestrian facilities that link all of the activity centers in the Ellicottville Area. The trail will provide safe routes for access to daily needs, including the Ellicottville Central School District, the local pharmacy, dental offices, Olean Medical Group Physicians offices, Ellicottville Library, Ellicottville Town Center, Nannen Arboretum, United States Post Office, town and village offices, and all the local restaurants and grocery store. Sincerely,
