Challenging and Careening Fun For the adrenaline junkies, Sky High Adventure Park will give you the fix you crave. In case you’ve never been, the Aerial Adventure Park is a series of platforms and connecting “bridges” built in the trees on a 4-acre section of woods near Tannenbaum Lodge. The bridge may be a log, a hanging chunk of wood or other obstacles or ladder. The challenge is to figure out how to get across to the next platform. The park now offers 11 courses, including zip lines, with two new courses added this spring to satisfy everyone from beginner to commando!

New this year, the park now has a Climbing Forest. It’s like a 3-D version of a climbing wall — and the only one of its kind in North America. The 10 trees outfitted with color-coded climbing holds range from very easy to very challenging and top out at 45 feet above the forest floor.

For speed demons, the park’s Mountain Coaster, is similar to a roller coaster but built on a mountain. Up to two people ride in a “car” that is pulled up the hill. Then gravity takes over as you zigzag down the spiraling path complete with waves and curves.

Prefer your own pedal power? Hit the trails on your mountain bike or in your hiking shoes. Enjoy the 4-5 mile race loop, the wider cross-country trails or explore the twisty singletrack trails.

From June to October, take part in informal rides and organized races. For adventure seekers, cross into the adjacent state lands and ride 35-plus miles of epic trails. You can even rent bikes at the Inn at Holiday Valley.

Ellicottville is also working on building a new recreational trail for more moderate athletes. With additional monetary donations, you may see some groundbreaking action in the next year or so.
