MON 20TH & TUES 21ST JAN create an 8-10 page magazine/lookbook based on one of the latest menswear shows(A/W 2020). Focusing on imagery, trends and creativity. This task should aid your research for your possible brand collaboration.
magazine requirements: - VISUAL. Lots of interesting and on brand imagery - A contents page - Column based text (Doesn’t have to be written by you, just need to be able to demonstrate understanding by including) - Fonts used need to be on brand - Page numbers

SETTING UP A DOCUMENT:
Settings for an A4 document: - change amount pages depending on how many you need (you can add more/less at a later stage too) - if documents going to be printed, make sure you add a bleed. 3mm is normally what I

REMEMBER: if your document’s going to be printed, make sure the amount of pages is set to a multiple of 4.

PAGES
You can use the pages panel to quickly switch between which page you’re working on by double clicking the icon of the page. Or, you can even move pages around if need be by dragging the icon of that specific page into the correct order that you want.

MASTER PAGE & ADDING PAGE NUMBERS
The master pages are where you can add specific aspects that you want to be repeated on every single page. For example; page numbers or a background colour. To edit your master page, just double click on the master page icon.
To add page numbers, draw a small text box where you want the numbers to be shown (e.g bottom corner). Type > Insert Special Character > Markers > Current page number Copy across onto opposite page. 9.
PLACING IMAGES:
1. Select the rectangle frame tool from the tool bar.

Drag and draw out on your page the size of image you want. (Can always change later on)
3. To place an image, go to File > Place and select a file from your documents 10.
REMEMBER: To keep your images in proportion when resizing, head up to Object > Fitting and select which way you want your image to fit the box.
you can also click the circle that appears when you hover over your images to manually resize your image, within the frame. TIPS: Make sure all of your images are above 150dpi and don’t look pixelated! Also, make any image edits in P.S before you bring them into I.D. 11.
TEXT text boxes: TIP: Make sure you write your documents in Word/ Pages first and then copy into InDesign, it doesn’t have spell check!

Paste your text into the first column. To link together columns, click the red cross in a square at the bottom of the first column and simply click into the next one. This should make your text flow across both. 13.
PRINTING AND EXPORTING Exporting as a PDF: 1.

File > Export > PDF PRINT. Check through settings, InDesign tends to have them correct. Make sure in the section, compression is over 150 pixels per inch for each element.

Printing an A4 doc as a booklet:

EXTRA TIPS ZOOMING: To zoom quickly in and our of document: Command and + to zoom In Command and - to zoom out
CHECK QUALITY & PREVIEW DOCUMENT View > Screen Mode > Preview to see document without markers View > Overprint Preview to see full quality of document. (bare in mind this will make Indesign run slowly so remember to turn it back off) FONTS To make your publications feel more on-brand, head to dafont.com and download some fonts 17.
