HISTORY
Established in the early 1900s, the Zilker neighborhood has a rich history. The neighborhood is named after Colonel Andrew Jackson Zilker, a businessman and philanthropist who purchased much of the land in the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1917, he donated over 350 acres of land to the city of Austin, which became Zilker Park. Today, Zilker remains one of Austin’s most desirable neighborhoods, known for its balance of urban living and the city’s natural beauty.
