Innovative, imaginative and full of curiosity, I strive to reshape the industry and create designs that stimulate the imagination. Currently studying Product Design at Nottingham Trent University, my knowledge of the industry is expanding rapidly as I enthusiastically take on challenges that will challenge my skills, beliefs and vision.

BPMA Sleep Matters

My final idea for the Wilko brief is is a game that is used to compete for Blox (a Wilko toy line). Two people compete to throw rings over the opponents tower and whoever wins gets the Blox of the opponent. The final design (red and white) doubles as storage to keep your Blox in as to serve two purposes.

01

The hole in the top is to store Wilko’s Blox pieces, doubling as storage and fun. Throw your disk over the other tower and whoever wins collects the opponents Blox pieces for themselves.

The ring is made of rubber for maximum grip, flexibility and safety of the children using it. It also allows it to be cheaply made and when thrown it will stay stationary where it lands.

The base is hollowed out to save money and reduce weight. Also, the designs curvy aesthetic is for child safety.

WILKO PROJECT Wilko Blox Tower and Container

Aesthetics are important and so to keep true to the Wilko Branding I decided to keep it red, black and white.

The base of the tower is made from rubber just like the throwing ring. This makes sure that it does not throw over if it is hit. The rest of the product is made from ABS heat resistant plastic, like Lego, offering quality, yet costing little.

This design was created to look very space ship like, giving a futuristic appeal to marry with the flying iron balls. Made of highly reflective aluminium it gives off a premium aesthetic complimented by the complex geometry and ang u l a r s h a p e s . T h i s w a s changed later for a more child friendly and cheaper approach.

This is a model I designed around my final design to test if it would work. The tower was stationary and the ring managed to successfully land around it. The storage compartment worked but in the future I would create a lid to accommodate.

An earlier idea I had was to have levitating iron balls that you would try to knock over. This later changed due to it being too expensive and not incorporating enough Blox elements such as the storage compartment of my final design shown before. This also looks more focussed on a mature audience in terms of style.

This project entailed making a storage device to keep tea and or coffee for general home use. My apporach was modular and modern.

STARPACKS PROJECT Tea and Coffee Containers

This mixing bowl allows for users to mix their tea and spice to create their own unique flavour. The black interior is inspired by premium cooking pans.

Due to the modular design, containers and parts of different shapes and sizes may be fitted to your personal taste, all with a uniformed design.

As this product is made from thick aluminium it has a weight to it that one, boasts quality and two, makes sure the components stays where you want it.

165 million cups of tea daily or 60.2 billion per year are consumed by the British.

Britain is the largest per capita tea drinking nation

When interviewed by me, 82% of people have different teas and coffees in the home.

When interviewed by me, 74% of people said they dislike the boring aesthetic of their tea/coffee holders.

Some initial ideation looking into tea and coffee containers. From the beginning I was going for a metallic look but compared to my final design, these were more patch work looing with rough patched on pieces of metal. This was to create a truly hand crafted appeal but then when looking online for designs similar I realised that the majority of people in the modern home do not adopt this style and it is a niche which is not my objective. This product is intended for the mass market and so I modernised and simplified the design.

MODULAR DESIGN

This set allows for people to take apart and assemble their tea and coffee set to whatever they so wish. It is fully modular so if you want a mixing bow you can add it and if you want a grinder, just snap it on. All uniformed of course.

This connector is the most important part of the design, allowing you to attach components together. All pieces are designed around this one piece.

For this project I looked to create a promotional product on the cheap side that could be mass produced and freely given away. Nevertheless, it could not “look” cheap and had to actually be useful. Mass order portable speakers go for £2.50 per piece and a company logo fits on it perfectly.

03 Initially I was going to make earphones and did some ideation, however I soon realised that there is only so much you can do with earphone design without the small parts adding up in cost.

BPMA Portable Speak

To spark some creativity, I created a model of a speaker designed around a rocket. Something unique, out there, a complete stand out. The rocket stabilisers worked as legs to keep the speaker up, the bottom padded with rubber and effectively it is a fancy shell hosting a regular mini speaker which saves money. I later opted for a more simple, wider accepted design (top left)

The brushed dark aluminium gives a reflective look with a premium finish and texture whilst still remaining cheap.

The top of the speaker is an open design offering maximum sound output with no restrictions.

PROJECT er

The ring around the centre piece holds magnetically so even if the speaker is lifted, it will follow. It also serves as a wireless charging bank – my original idea.

Here is a snippet of my portable speaker ideation. Going for curves and a small form factor, I try to make unique designs while keeping them tamed.

Throughout my projects I have put up sticky notes on my wall with ideas and information; including what to include, what to look out for, what not to include, materials, cost and questions.

A unique early concept with a rustic theme. Elements appear to float in its tin can, wired fence design. Inspired by WW2, everything is stung by wire, electrical cords holding all in place. It is meant to draw attention and provoke question as to its operations, the aesthetic looks puzzling, yet attractive - “music in a can

A small form factor with a smooth finish and a unified colour scheme. My final idea was 100% liked in a like/dislike survey

The pad sizes and clasps can be changed for different sizes as to increase sales and accommodate multiple head shapes.

SLEEP MATTERS PROJECT Multifunction Sleep Improvement Headpiece

04

This is a headpiece that when place on your forehead provides controlled heat and massage to your scalp through motors and pads. It is nonobstructive to sleep positions and is controlled with an easy to use app or the dial on the top. Music can be played through bone narrow vibrations so only you can hear the sound for peace in the bedroom.

Social networking and forums help bring people of common interest together as well as lock people into a brands net. This encourages users to interact and share all while making sure your customer base stays consistent and high.

This is a mobile app used to control the headpiece as well as access the brands forums, social network and more. The home page clearly indicates how to get to each page and the colour scheme is consistent.

The profile page monitors your sleep and shows how well you have slept each night from where it will give suggestions for improved sleep and the analytics can be shared with doctors.

Sliders easily control different aspects of the headset in a clean, easy to understand format. The app is free to use but for the add free version with additional benefits a small monthly fee is required. Buying products also gives free access.

I made three development models to better understand the shape and size that the product would need to be and there is no better way to test than to physically try it yourself

I tried placing the vibrating motors on different parts of the head piece to see which was most comforting. Each model had a different weight, size and angle.

As demonstrated here, the headpiece does not impact your sleeping unless you sleep on your face. The thin clips to attach it to your head are non obstructive.

Soothing pads vibrate and massage your temple, the sensitive part of your head, to stimulate a sensational sleep.
