Connecting the Elmbrook Schools Community

FUTURE TEACHERS PROGRAM BUILDS TALENT PIPELINE

Elmbrook’s Future Teachers LAUNCH program has been shaping the next generation of educators since its inception in 2017. This innovative program has brought Elmbrook graduates back to the district as high-quality educators. The first graduate of the program was hired by Elmbrook in 2022, and since then, the district has welcomed two teachers, two teacher interns, and Wisconsin’s first teacher apprentice, all products of the Future Teachers program. This vital pipeline is addressing workforce shortages in education while cultivating a talented and dedicated workforce for the Elmbrook community.

SALE OF HILLSIDE

In January, the Board of Education voted unanimously to sell the former Hillside Elementary School and property. Following two community listening sessions and several planning meetings, the Board’s decision was rooted in the community’s feedback as they sold the property to a single-family home residential builder. The process of the sale will likely be completed in the next 6 months and funds will be allocated to active facility costs.

This sale marks the completion of a 2023 strategic goal in facility planning targeting two District properties; the Hillside property and Fairview South, which will be renovated this summer. District e orts have already turned to completing a Master Facility Plan for all District facilities.

GROWING WITH SEEDS OF TOMORROW

Elmbrook’s Food Service Department launched ‘Seeds of Tomorrow’ in 2023, growing fresh lettuce for the District from the Fairview South kitchen. The student-led program involves Fairview South and Ecology Club students from Brookfield Central & East in growing and harvesting.

In 2024-25, the Elmbrook Education Foundation committed to raising $65,000 to expand the program with more Fork Farms units. The initiative has:

Reduced food waste by 40%

Saved

$35,000 annually

The program continues to o set rising food costs while providing fresh, healthy meal options.

SCHOOL START TIMES

This representative committee, made up of parents, sta , students, and a board member, is working to align sleep research with a more favorable school start time schedule. California (2022) and Florida (2026) have passed laws requiring middle and high schools to start after 8 a.m. While the District’s three-tier start time model, in place for over 25 years, is largely driven by transportation and financial constraints, the Committee has spent five months studying research and data to consider options that will positively impact students' education. Representatives will present recommendations to the Board on March 18, 2025, with any changes not expected until at least the 2026-2027 school year.
