Striking Syria U.S., U.K. and France Order Retaliation Strikes Against Suspected Syrian Government Gas Bombings

Rio’s Speech and Debate Team Succeeds at Nationals in Florida

In response to the suspected Syrian government gas bombing, the US, and two of its closest allies ordered military strikes in response to the gas attack near the already war torn Syrian capital of Damascus that killed over 40 people last week reported The New York Times. The Strike consisted of US Tomahawk missiles fire from three US navy ships, long range bombs deployed from B-1 Bombers, while the UK and France also used airships to fire long range missiles and submarines capabilities. President Trump condemning the attack had the following in response to the supposed attack: “These are not the actions of a man, they are crimes instead.” Trump also stated the US is prepared to continuing this response if Assad continues with these chemical attacks. Leaders of the of the allied powers retaliating against the supposed Assad gas attack, condemn the gas bombing along declaring it was against international law and coordinated a nighttime operations at 4 am. The strikes hit three chemical weapon facilities in the Syrian Capital Damascus, and two chemical weapon facilities in the city of Homs. One of the these facilities was believed to involved with producing sarin gas stated by Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Syrian government reported that the military shot down 13 missiles but the US military has yet to confirm that statement. The Syrian Government has reported that there has three wounded by the strikes with no reports of casualties as of yet. The Pentagon has yet to confirm nor deny said report. President Trump declared on Twitter, “A perfectly executed strike, could not have had a better result. Rio Baseball Goes 1-2 in Series vs Chaffey MADELYN GASTELUM Reporter

The Roadrunner baseball squad closed out their three game series against Chaffey College with a 6-5 road win Saturday, April 14. Rio Hondo had faced the conference opponent, Chaffey College with games this past Tuesday, Thursday, and ending on Saturday. Tuesday, the Roadrunners traveled out to Rancho Cucamonga to face the Panthers at their field. The Roadrunners had good momentum early on in the game with a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the fifth inning. They kept up their game play keeping Chaffey from scoring during the 6th, 7th
and 8th innings along with adding some runs on the board for themselves. Catcher Pat Biggs hit a solo home run at the top of the 6th and an RBI by Kelby Nava bringing in hitter Marcos Rivas pushed the Roadrunners further with a 6-4 lead going into the top of the 9th. With the win so close, the Roadrunners went into the bottom of the inning with a strong mindset. Chaffey Panther Evan Rice hit a threerun home run with two outs, however. Giving Chaffey the walk-off win and closing out the game 7-6 with the loss for the Roadrunners. Thursday, Rio Hondo faced Chaffey at home with hopes to tie the series 1-1 Continued on page 11
