RHC Women’s Volleyball Spikes A Win During Sophomore Night
By: Mia Alvarez Online Sports Editor Mia.alvarez1430@my.riohondo.edu
The Lady Roadrunners dominated a win against the visiting Warriors of El Camino College with a score of 3-1 in Whitter on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022. They just came back from dominating a 3-0 win against East Los Angeles College (ELAC) last Friday on Nov. 4 The First Set
In the beginning of the first set, the Lady Roadrunners were a little shaky. Their opponent, El Camino, started to score ahead of Rio. Then, the game became tied. Rio Hondo broke the tie, and they gained the lead.
Middle hitter Jayleen Garcia, #16, and outside hitter Jennifer Martinez, #12, both freshmen at Rio Hondo College, were a dynamic duo on the court by making sure the ball didn’t get on their side of the net.
The first set became a game of cat and mouse. Every time Rio scored, El Camino scored. At the end of the first set, El Camino started to make a comeback. But, then Rio Hondo secured the bag
with a score of 25-22. The first set was a bit of a challenge for these Lady Roadrunners, but they pulled through the first set with a win.

Their opponents were getting upset with how the game was going. Throughout the set, there were a couple of times that the score was tied. El Camino started to gain ahead in the set, but Rio was always one point behind them. Rio picked up the lead. Rio Hondo won the fourth set with a score of 25-23.

the Warriors started to score ahead of Rio. The Lady Roadrunners couldn’t defend their side of the court. Fans were cheering in the stands to hype up Rio Hondo.
All of Rio’s timeouts were used, and it was all up to the girls to work together to be able to dominate in this set. They started to get their mojo back from the first set, but it wasn’t enough to win this set.

It all came down to the fourth set. Would Rio Hondo uphold their winning streak or get defeated by El Camino College? There was a lot of energy on Rio’s sideline, and they wanted to win this set to keep their winning streak alive.

Spring Semester Registration 2023: How to Become a Roadrunner
By: Miguel Vazquez Lifestyle Editor miguel.vazquez9988@my.riohondo.edu
Registration for Rio Hondo College’s (RHC) Spring 2023 semester is now open. Enrolling is different for everyone, whether you are returning from winter break as a continuing student, or as a returning student from previous years. Counselors from the RHC Counseling Department and Student Success & Dream Center are available for in-person and online instruction. Helping you navigate through the process, understanding the waitlist, and what “W’s” means, and keeping you informed on all the deadlines that new, continuing, and returning students face.
Rio Hondo College Registration
High school graduates who are applying for the Spring 2023 semester must first apply online for admission. You can do this by going to the RHC website. New, or returning students,; students who have taken several gap years before or after having done at least a semester, must submit an updated application before registering. After having done so, you will receive a welcome email within four business days. that includes your RHC student ID, username, and login instructions. With the given information go to AccessRio, log in, and activate your RioMail.
For continuing students; students who have completed their fall or winter terms, have an Education Plan already in place. The ED Plan is a plan developed with your counselor that serves your academic and
career goals, previously listing all the courses you deem necessary and fundamental for each semester. For RHC applicants who do not already have an ED plan, you can set an appointment with your counselor to discuss next semester’s course choices. With registration open, now is the time to speak with your counselor about any changes in your career goals and passions, so that your next courses can support your ambitions.
University applicants fear getting rejected from their respective choices, and consider being waitlisted, another form of rejection. There are a hopeful few who believe being waitlisted is not necessarily a bad thing because there is still a chance of being accepted into their preferred college or course, but most do not share the same optimism. To most, being waitlisted leads to doubt in an applicant’s ability and self-confidence.
At Rio Hondo College, the acceptance rate is 100%, so being waitlisted for general admission is nearly impossible.
If a class you want to attend is full, it is because seats are limited, so you can simply add your name to the waitlist. Having done so before the start of the semester means that you are responsible for checking your RioMail daily to see if you have received a time-stamped notification that a seat has become available.
Once the notation has been sent, you will have exactly 48 hours to add the course, failure to do so will result in being dropped from the waitlist and your seat being offered to the next available student.
Applicants who remain on the course’s waitlist once the se-
Brittney Griner’s Battle in Russia
By: Christopher Villasenor Broadcast editor christopher.villasenor8525@my.riohondo.edu
Brittney Yevette Griner was a basketball player who played in the WNBA for the Phoenix Mercury. Griner played college basketball at Baylor. She is the only player in NCAA women’s basketball history to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots. Her accolades also include two gold medals: one in the Rio Oolympics, and the other in the Tokyo Olympics.
She was a very well-known player when she did play in the WNBA. This was due to her electric playstyle that even included dunking. She played center and had a deadly hook shot as well.
On Feb. 17, 2022 Griner was detained in Russia at the Sheremetyevo International Airport. She was detained because customs had found vape cartridges containing marijuana in her luggage. CBD is illegal in Russia, and if you are
mester has begun, must attend the first class meeting and request an add code from the instructor. Email the instructor to request an add code if the course is a fully-online class.
Instructors will not issue add codes until the first day of their classes. Go to the registration add/drop menu on your AccessRio account to enter the add code, and after submitting changes, your status from “waitlisted” to “registered” will have changed.
How to Withdraw
A “W” is similar to the letter grades on your transcript. “W’s’’ stands for “Withdraw,” as in, you have withdrawn yourself from a class. Having a “W” on your transcript is not necessarily a bad thing, but having more than one “W,” even frequently, is what universities and other 4-year school admissions suggest to be the makings of an unpromising
caught with it, it comes with a lot of consequences. The punishment for breaking Russia’s CBD law is a monetary fine up to serving 15 years in prison.
Griner has already served 8 months in Russian prison, but she is expected to serve eight more years. Griner and her team had the chance to appeal on Oct. 25, but Russia’s government upheld their decision. Then, on Nov. 9, she was moved from her facility in Russia to a penal colony.
Penal colonies in Russia are well known to be labor camps. These camps are also known for making prisoners work in very harsh conditions and they

Instructors, upon the first day of class, will inform you of the course’s deadlines for dropping the class without or without a “W.”. Deadlines can also be found on the Rio Hondo Website.
Dropping before a class begins or by the refund deadline will not show on your transcript. Feb. 24, 2023, will be the last day to drop without a W, but you will not receive a refund and will be liable to pay enrollment fees. April 18 is the last day to drop a course, but with a W, in which case the letter will show on your transcript.
Some instructors will consider failure to attend the class for an extended period, as an indirect message from the student that they will no longer be continuing the course, and email the student to evaluate their status. It is important to remember that you are responsible for initiating the

After news broke about Griner being detained in Russia, the United States were already trying to get her back. As elections rolled around in the United States, the fastest diminished a little, but now that elections finished on Nov. 7,resident Joe Biden said that he hopes he comes into an agreement with Putin on Griner’s release. Unofficially dropping the class will result in not having any refunds for paid enrollment fees, and said fees will still cover the cost of the course. Unofficial dropping will also result in failing grades appearing on your transcript.
To successfully drop, submit a request at the Admissions and Records counter, which is in the RHC Admissions Building, in person during office hours. The drop request will require you to write a letter, with your full name, student ID, the CRN and course title, your signature, and date, as well as a copy of your photo ID, all of which indicate that you want to drop a course. Because of Griner’s detainment, it had sparked a huge debate throughout the United States. Leborn James, a famous athlete, on the show “The Shop” questioned, “Over 110 days, now how should she feel like America has her back?” He basically is saying that she shouldn’t ask for help from the United States. Both President Biden and Vice President Harris have been heavily involved to help Griner. They have been in touch with Griner’s wife and the U.S embassy in Russia to help her get back.

Rio Hondo Library Workshops Fall 2022
By: Jeffrey Barragan Copy Editor jeffrey.barraganramos6969@my.riohondo.edu
The Fall 2022 semester at Rio Hondo College is almost over, but the Rio Hondo Library is now holding multiple workshops throughout the month of November, until early December.
The Rio Hondo Library workshops opened on Monday, Nov. 7 and will be offered to students until Dec. 2. The workshops will touch on topics such as using the library catalog, online databases, and avoiding plagiarism.
Most of the workshops can be taken in-person at the Learning Resource Center (LR) in room 224 or online, via
Zoom. With the online option, students can watch the pre-recorded workshop at any point during the day or week.
The Zines! and Microsoft/ Google Apps workshops are the only two that can’t be taken online. They both have to be taken on campus. However, the Zines! workshop is the only one taking place in LR-230.
After completing a workshop, students can complete an online quiz to receive credit. The Rio Hondo Library website notes that is especially helpful for students using the workshop as an extra credit, or class, assignment.
Throughout the month, the workshops will be held almost every school day. However, on Veterans Day and
Thanksgiving break, the Rio Hondo campus and Library are closed. But students do have the option of taking the online, asynchronous, workshops over the breaks.
The majority of workshops are being held around four times throughout the month, with the exception of a few workshops that will be held two or three times.
Rio Hondo students have already received emails containing the exact dates and times when the workshops are taking place. The information is also available online, on the Rio Hondo Library website.
Students are required to wear masks inside the Rio Hondo Library and for in-person workshops. The Rio Hondo Library has additional resources for students including access to study spaces, computers, and research assistance.

After hits like “Sneakin’,” “Mr. Right Now,”
“Jimmy Cooks,” and many more, many fans were waiting for more collaborations between Drake and 21 Savage. While you may have been expecting a longer wait for one more song from the duo, they shocked us on Oct. 22. During the “Jimmy Cooks” video, Drake officially announced “Her Loss”; a collaborative album between him and 21 Savage.
Our questions were all answered on Nov. 4.
“Her Loss” released to all streaming platforms at 12 a.m. after a week of delays. The 16-track album has almost no features, except for one song with Travis Scott. While the album does have a majority of Drake in it, 21 Savage certainly gets the job done with his time.
“Rich Flex” is the leadoff track for “Her Loss.” The song is a one-two punch from Savage and Drake and features a great beat drop. Not only are the selected beats for this track picked well, but the lyrics are catchy too. Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Drake’s hilarious introduction. While some may think it’s a funny coincidence, honestly, it feels like a marketing move by these guys at this point.
“Major Distribution,” just like the last track, has whiplash with its great, but unexpected beat switch. Surprisingly too, it’s one of the shorter tracks on the album, lasting around two minutes and 51 seconds. From “Home Alone” references to mentioning Harry Styles and Zayn Malik, the duo makes the song a memorable, unexpected listen.
“On BS” is one of the more hard songs on the album. Drake and 21 Savage are much more unfiltered, and it sounds like they’re going after all of their doubters and haters. Both rappers get multiple verses in this time, and they make it work. My favorite references were them speaking on how they carry other rappers on tracks Savage and Drake are featured on. Also, the outro featuring Arthur Kar, an expensive automobile dealer, is around one minute long. Unlike most skippable, long outros, Kar does a great job keeping the listener engaged with his speech.
“BackOutsideBoyz,” as a track, has a familiar Drake cadence that we’ve seen in
other albums past, but the production is something newer and fresh. A sort of tease on the song are the Lil Yachty adlibs, as the listener believes he will feature on the track. One memorable quote from the song is, “She’s a 10 trynna [sic] rap, it’s good on mute.” Most speculate he’s referring to Ice Spice, the viral rapper all over TikTok.
After missing 21 Savage on the previous track, “Privileged Rappers” has Savage come in strong with the first verse of the song. The song is also one of the shorter tracks, charting in at 2:41 (two minutes and 41 seconds). Although it’s one of the least groundbreaking songs of the album, without any real messages, the song still holds up. While it’s not necessarily a skip, a listen without this song wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
“Spin Bout U” also is more of a love/infatuation song like the previous track, but executes in a much better fashion. Savage is not usually known for his love songs, but with Drake on this track it feels like he’s been doing it for a long time. It’s a good little stretch of different sounding songs, and it makes the album more diverse.
“Hours In Silence” is a lengthy track, running 6:39 (six minutes and 39 seconds). The song is also a love letter like the last two songs, but it’s in a completely different gear. It’s much slower paced, and once the beat switch happens, it slows to a walking pace. While the song has a great message and is lyrically great and relatable, the slowness of it and the length of the track may turn some viewers off.
“Treacherous Twins” is smack in the middle of the album, and honestly it feels like it. While the beat is fine and lyrics are pretty okay too, the track at parts feels like filler and is the first true skip of the album.
“Circo Loco” has become one of the most controversial songs on the album. While the track itself is pretty good, and features both rappers in the track decently well, Drake is unhinged on the track. He calls out Kanye West and their “Free Larry Hoover” concert from Dec. 9, 2021. He’s also speculated to throw shots at Megan Thee Stallion in a creative way, which hints at the infamous Tory Lanez shooting.
“P***y and Millions” has the only feature of the album
in Travis Scott. Being the only feature, Scott does command a good portion of the song and is accompanied by Drake and Savage. His beat switch blends perfectly and makes this one of the better listens on the song. The song feels complete with the Cactus Jack flow and his feature is definitely a standout verse of the album.
“Broke Boys” is a return to the Savage style of beats. Drake isn’t usually using these beats, but when he does, it’s a sight to see. Once the beat switch happens, Drake goes on a different level. His rapping in quick and successful fashion is catchy and makes the listen much better. Once again too, it can’t be a Drake album without an Adidas diss.
“Middle of the Ocean” is another Drake-only song. The song feels like it’s straight from his “Scorpion” album. Lengthy, preachy, and corny, Drake invites the listener into a piece of his life.
“Jumbotron Sh*t Poppin” is unfortunately reminiscent of “Treacherous Twins.” Unfortunately, it’s another filler song, and could be left off the album. While not being a terrible song, it definitely won’t go in most playlists and will probably be forgotten.
“More M’s” is another track with a Savage-style beat. Once again, Savage and Drake get their work in on this track. The quick punches of the song, short verses, and overall gritty feel of the song make it a great addition to this already stacked album.
“3AM on Glenwood” is a shock. While the album is mostly Drake, this is the only track off the whole album without Drake. Also, being the penultimate track, Savage slows us and the pace down to talk to someone in a more “real” manner. This song hits home and makes the listener really her what he says. While a lot of the album has been jumpy no matter the message, this polar opposite is much needed.
“I Guess it’s F**k Me” is a classic Drake outro. It’s slowing down the album and has minimal beats and is just him speaking. The track is much more barebones than others, and it effectively brings the listener back to a calm state. It’s the opposite of the opener, and that’s a good thing. This album has the viewer go from a high to calmness, and it’s all welcome.
Maneskin: Rock Stars On The Rise
Marilin Campos Online Editor-in-Chief marilin.campos7742@my.riohondo.edu
Making their big break on “Eurovision” 2021, Maneksin seduced the world with its modern rock glam look and its alternative sound. The Italian rock band was formed in 2016 and is composed of vocalist Damino David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, drummer Ethan Torchio, and guitarist Thomas Raggi.
The foursome began singing in the streets of Italy and began gaining popularity when they finished second in Italy’s “X-Factor” in 2017. However, what truly launched them into stardom was winning “Eurovision,” an international music competition, with their song “Zitti E Buoni.”
Not only does the band have an incredible rock sound, but their alternative style has become a staple for them. Their uniquely genderfluid, glam-rock look is a statement of sexual freedom and self-expression. They are not afraid of being themselves, and use their wardrobe to express themselves and what they stand for.
As a result of the importance of Maneskin’s look, MTV was criticized for censoring their performance of “Supermodel” during the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA). Bassist Victoria De Angelis sported a
one shoulder top, and a heart shaped pasty covering the exposed breast. During the performance her top slipped, exposing her other breast, and MTV was quick to censor the video.
Many fans felt it was a disservice to the performance, as the band has never been one to shy away from lack of clothing. De Angelis has sported nothing but pasties in performances. In fact, MTV was a major factor in the popularization of the pop rock movement back in the 80’s. Others have criticized the fact that her male co-stars were just as exposed, but not censored. In that same VMA performance lead singer ,David, stunned the crowds wearing only a pair of chaps. Her male bandmates have never been censored for their wardrobe or bodies, and many people were disappointed in MTV’s handling of the performance.
Since their victory in “Eurovision” the band has performed on many award shows and late night talk shows. Currently the band is on their Loud Kids Tour across 18 different countries. This is their first headline tour in North America, and they have been received with open arms. Most recently, they sold out the Hollywood Palladium here in Los Angeles on Nov. 7. That band is still on tour, be sure to catch them if you can, and keep an out for the new age of rock.

The Big Brunch
How was HBO Max’s new release broken down
Carlos Jimenez Copy Editor carlos.jimenez7338@my.riohondo.edu
Streaming now on HBO Max is “The Big Brunch.”
It’s a cooking competition many people can stream and enjoy over the weekend. The show was predicted to hit millions of views this past weekend. The show is setting a new image of the whole world of cooking and competition. For the viewers, the show is different, beginning with the cast and the judges, and their whole view on food.
Each show ranges from about forty minutes to almost an hour. And the first three episodes are now streaming on HBO Max. Just like other shows, each new episode comes out every Sunday. The contestants are competing for a prize of $300,000,which is crazy to think about for a competition. Especially for food, many would think it would be much less and comes with other perks aside from money.
Looking at the first episode, the show kicked off with a touching and warming intro to each contestant. We get to see how each contestant started cooking and how they are using food to change their way of living. It’s a sense of who they are and what this show can potentially help them become in the future
For the first dish, each contestant had to recreate a home plate they enjoyed as a kid. Many contestants were using dishes that reminded them of their home. Nedge, a contestant on the show, did an amazing job showing her heritage on her first plate of the
show. She was fascinated with showing people her Hattian heritage to her students and\ children.
Many contestants had an amazing story to tell, like Roman and Kelly, each contestant was fighting for support for their people. Roman has a center that helps individuals have a place to stay and a meal. Roman was competing because he has received news his center is being sold. Kelly had her side of the story, and she explained it to help farmers and her farming life and family.
Watching and listening to how food has changed their views on life and lifestyle, makes you wonder. How can something we are meant to eat mean and can bring and open doors for many people struggling ? Nevertheless, each plate was made with distinct flavors, which the three judges found challenging when scoring who is best.
What makes the viewers know who is best and what isn’t, is when the judges spend more time talking with the contestant. The show does show when the judges do not like the plate. The more the show goes on, the less and less they take on each plate.
To conclude, the first episode was left off with more plates to see and try. Obviously, this is the first episode of the season, and each contestant gave their best and worst plate. The three judges will challenge the contestants in the upcoming episode and make them prove why their plates can change the lives of others.

Artists also use apps like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok to promote their new music. TikTok has been the most relevant app in the last three years. It is very famous because it takes advantage of this generation’s weak attention span.
This generation’s attention span is very low nowadays due to technology. People love to
be entertained right away and have instant gratification. This is why apps like TikTok and Instagram create algorithms for their apps to get people to stay on their app.
echnology as a whole has taken over the whole music scene. It has changed the whole industry and has helped it evolve in many ways. Music streaming services have changed the way people listen to music. CD’s and Vinyl records are not as relevant anymore.Especially the TikTok algorithm, because their apps feature FYP, which means for your page. And that’s literally what it is, because for example if you love cars it is going to give you videos about cars. It is very accurate and it helps keep your screen time up and that’s the app’s goal.
TikTok has become such a popular app that many creators and music artists on the app have blown up. It seems like almost every famous tik tok artist is trying to make music.
For example Lil Huddy, a very famous TikToker on the app, has started his own music career. It also seems like new artists are blowing up left and right with catchy tunes that get stuck in your head all day.
Artists are purposely making these songs to be catchy and have a nice hook to
keep listeners interested. Song times have also decreased very much. Song times went from going to minutes minutes to going to two or less. This is due to artists focusing on the chorus and trying to reach a generation where they want to hear catchy music.
This is why it is very refreshing to hear Drake and 21 Savage’s new album “Her Loss” because almost every single song on the album is at least three to four minutes long.
And it worked out very well for them because they implemented a lot of beat changes into the album which allowed more creative freedom
This is due to them not trying to cram the song into two minutes, and they still created a catchy sound in this album because of the beats.
I just hope in the future artists do get to make music that’s over two minutes because it is very refreshing for music listeners.
to best. There are 32 qualified World Cup teams, and each of them have new jerseys that have recently been released. The Rankings
worst
Jerseys listed 24-16 would be the mid tier or acceptable designs. For example Brazil in my opinion was a mid tier kit because their jersey is always the same but the yellow and green pattern is perhaps the most iconic colorway in all of international football.
Jerseys listed 15-6 are the great jerseys they have been specifically designed to stand out and for people to take notice and an obvious marketing move so people will want to buy their jersey.
For example Ghana has the most consistent great jerseys in my opinion but the only reason they are out of the top 5 for me is because of the lack of creativity because of the secondary jersey.
The jerseys that are listed 5-1 are the absolute best and elite jerseys. Taking the number one spot for me was Japan and it is because the design of the jersey is so nice because the primary jersey has an origami design pattern with an ocean blue and the secondary jersey is a call back jersey from past World Cups.
Every jersey had a unique style, some were better than others and some were down right bad. Everyone will have a different opinion and I am interested in yours.
Opinion www.elpaisanoonline.com 8
The World Cup is here, and with the arrival of the World Cup comes tons of excitement from people all over the world. One of the most exciting parts of the World Cup is seeing all the new jerseys that come out. Today, I will be looking and ranking all world cup jerseys and putting them from 32. Switzerland 31. Serbia 30. England 29. Morocco 28. USA 27. Australia 26. Cameroon 25. Iran 24. Netherlands 23. Senegal 22. Denmark 21. Portugal 20. Qatar 19. Croatia 18. Brazil 17. Poland 16. Germany 15. Ecuador 14. Spain 13. Uruguay 12. Argentina 11.Ghana 10. Costa Rica 9. Belgium 8. Wales 7. South Korea 6. Saudi Arabia 5. France 4. Tunisia 3. Mexico 2. Canada 1. Japan
Each kit in their own way was very unique and interesting. However, ones that were listed 32-25 were the worst of the bunch in my opinion. Some of the jerseys are very bland and just boring or there are poor design choices.
Tik Tok’s Music Dilema
Thanksgiving Feasts: What Will Be Your Main Course?
By: Christopher Araujo Sports Editor christopher.araujo2069@my.riohondo.edu
Everyone is different in how they celebrate the holidays, choosing meals that seasonally fit with the holiday, or courses that benefit a healthy lifestyle.
Turkey
Traditionally, in the US, turkey is what comes to mind for most people as the main course. Turkey is what most people think of eating during the season, because of the symbol and history that it holds. Historically, turkey has been eaten because of the bountiful meal provided. The species is abundant, so it can be found all over the country. The bird is plentiful in meat, which is solely why turkeys are raised in captivity. A single turkey is typically large enough to feed an entire family.
Turkey goes wonderfully with a series of traditional seasoned side dishes such as, bread stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and cornbread. To cook Turkey properly, roast an unstuffed turkey breast-side up for 13 minutes per pound of turkey at 350°. You can keep the turkey breasts from losing their juiciness by cooking the turkey breast side-down for the first hour of roasting, so the juices infuse the breast while delivering
a blast of heat to the slower-cooking legs. To add a unique flavor, try using fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, and sage.
Ham
Ham has been gaining popularity over the years as the more healthy and affordable option that it is. Ham is a red meat, unlike turkey, and offers a great amount of protein. Consuming more red meat like this builds muscle, bone, and blood health, where white meat like turkey only supports blood health. Ham is also more affordable than turkey is at most grocery and retail stores. Spiral-sliced ham is a seasonal delicacy, far easier to cook and prepare for. Spiral-sliced ham is conveniently pre-sliced by butchers who cut a bone-in-ham into one big spiral shape.
A half ham weighing between five and eight pounds requires 35 to 40 minutes of roasting at 325°F per pound. For whole bone-in hams ,weighing 12 and 16 pounds, cook the ham at 325°F for 22 to 26 minutes per pound. The internal temperature should be 145°F. If you’re looking for a good glaze-baked ham, then honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup are best suited for the task. Peach preserves or hot pepper jelly, add sheen as well as a distinct flavor to the ham. Any side dishes that go splendidly with your Thanksgiving feast would be a casserole, creamed corn, and creamed peas with onions.
Sports Jersey Styles
By: Christopher Araujo Sports Editor christopher.araujo2069@my.riohondo.edu
Sports jerseys are one of the most popular trends in streetwear. Athletes representing their idols to fans, wear their favorite sports jerseys, which have been at the forefront of many recent trends.
In the early 2000s, sports jerseys were popular, with many wearing them oversized. There were three jerseys that really stood out, the black 76ers Allen Iverson jersey or the sky blue and yellow MPLS Laker Kobe jersey, amongst many others. Nowadays, sports jerseys are more popular, because of their casual use.
One of the many jerseys booming these past years has been soccer jerseys. Professional teams are realizing how popular they are, hence collaboration with several brands.
The French soccer team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has had one of the most iconic collaborations, with Jordan being the main sponsor of their kits. This collaboration started in 2018. Nike and Off-White is a collaboration, bringing out soccer jerseys, shoes, and cleats. In 2015, Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto linked up
with one of the most historic soccer clubs in the world, Real Madrid, and designed the team’s third kit. Making it an iconic and clean kit.
Soccer jerseys became a staple in fashion when many retro jerseys made a comeback, such as the classic Arsenal bruised banana jersey, the classic A.C. Milan home jersey, and the Kappa sky blue Manchester City classic kit.
NBA jerseys are a part of this stylish trend. Hardwood Classics are the most fashionable because they re-release retro jerseys from the classic Detroit Pistons to the black Minnesota Timberwolves jersey, with Kevin Garnett’s name on the back. They are more commonly worn because of the amount of design and detail the old jerseys used to have.
The Nike NBA jerseys are a lot better than the Adidas jerseys the NBA used to have. The most popular one is the black Lakers jersey they brought back during the 2020 season to honor Kobe Bryant.
The best jerseys you can wear in winter are hockey ones as they can easily keep you warm with their long sleeves. The most fashionable jerseys you can wear are the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks.

Twitter Blue: A Total Failure?
By: Beatriz Martinez Editor-in-Chief beatriz.martinezortiz0021@my.riohondo.edu
Twitter is one of the most used social networks globally, and last Wednesday a new Twitter Blue update was released causing a great disaster in the app, but what is Twitter Blue?
Twitter Blue is a subscription service that Twitter offers to its users, this new update allows users to earn the verification badge by paying $7.99 per month, as well as enhanced and complementary features to the Twitter experience such as themes, editing tweets, bookmark folders, and custom app icons. So far, this service is only available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, with expansion plans, and is available only for iOS users.
As most people know, verification was previously only available to artists, influencers, public figures, or well-known brands, and Twitter took the time to verify account eligibility. So, when this update was made public, many of the non-famous users took advantage of it, causing Twitter to be filled with imposters.
Due to the new paid verification, many well-known influencers and companies have been cloned since previously, the only way to know if that user paid for the verification is by going to their profile and clicking on the blue verification.
Users took the opportunity to create fake accounts of people like former President George W. Bush who, from the verified fake account, tweeted, "he misses killing Iraqis." Current Twitter owner, Elon Musk, was also a victim, as several verified accounts were created under his name.
Also, an image of Mario Bros. giving everyone the finger was uploaded by a fake Nintendo account. Similarly, the large pharmaceutical “Eli Lilly and Company” was also affected after a fake account tweeted that insulin would be free.
After all the chaos he caused on social media, Musk, on Thursday night, temporarily stopped accepting new Twitter Blue subscriptions to try to prevent more fake accounts.
According to the official Twitter website, "Twitter accounts created on or after November [sic] 9, 2022, will be unable to subscribe to Twitter Blue at this time." However, the founder of Tesla has not yet said if this pause will be permanent or if it will be available later.
The chaos with Twitter Blue is happening while Musk is going through a lot of criticism.. In recent weeks, Twitter has faced massive layoffs and it is estimated that half of its employees will be fired, which has caused concern among employees and even users. Musk has also been heavily criticized for the new Twitter Blue update, with many calling this an anticipated flop.
Extreme Weather Changes, Earth Needs Help
By: Jonathon Carmona Science and Tech Editor jonathon.carmona9046@my.riohondo.edu
Climate change is a real and serious matter. Our planet, as a whole, is warming up at a speed that has increased over time. You may ask, “Why?” There is a multitude of reasons, but the simple answer would be; humans.
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), human activities, and the things we’ve created, are the main contributors to climate change.
Activities such as driving our gas-powered vehicles every day lead to greenhouse gasses being thrown into the atmosphere. The cars people drive give off these greenhouse gasses through the burning of the fuel they are using.
Gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane are released into the atmosphere where they will stay and fester for years to come. Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gasses are all considered greenhouse gasses.
The EPA states that deforestation and soil degradation also leads to more carbon
dioxide being released into the atmosphere. Methane is emitted from livestock, agricultural practices, and even organic waste that is rotting in landfills. So the food that people throw away can be harmful to the environment as it releases methane as it rots.
Nitrous oxide is released during the combustion of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are formed naturally in the Earth’s crust from decomposing dead animals and plants. These fuels are harvested and burned, which allows the nitrous oxide to harm the atmosphere.
Fluorinated gasses, also known as F-gasses, are man-made gasses containing fluorine. F-gasses are used in everyday industrial and household products. The products containing F-gasses are things such as refrigerators, air-conditioners, and aerosol cans.
Greenhouse gasses are detrimental to the atmosphere as stated by the EPA. Since the atmosphere is weakening, the powerful rays from the sun hit the Earth with less protection. Think of this process as like using sunscreen but it isn’t waterproof.
The atmosphere is Earth’s sunscreen, projecting the
planet and humans from the radiance of the burning sun. Without any sunscreen, the Earth will get sun-burned and no aloe vera would save those wounds.
The atmosphere depleting leads to warmer temperatures worldwide. The EPA states, the 10 hottest years worldwide on record have happened between 2005 and right now. The EPA also says that extremely hot days, and unusually hot nights, have been happening more frequently as well. The unusually hot nights indicate the planet is “cooling-off” less and less.
The changes in the weather cause heat waves and other natural occurrences like extreme storms and hurricanes to happen more often and last longer. Since the 1960’s, heat wave periods have gone from an average two per year to an alarming six heat waves per year, according to the EPA. This gives an indication of how badly the Earth’s atmosphere is being affected.
It is obvious, something needs to be done. Humans, in general, need to be more mindful of their actions, especially actions that harm the environment. The damage that has
been done can be reversed, but it will take time and needs to start now. If the atmosphere keeps depleting, the effects will be felt quickly.
What we can do, is stop doing the things that cause harm. Large industrial companies should cease any damaging actions and be forced to find alternative ways of dealing with their businesses. Now, governments are looking to tax companies, like Exxon and Chevron, that pollute the Earth. This is a good step in the right direction.
Cars should not be run on oil anymore, a cleaner alternative needs to be pro-
duced to replace oil. Electric cars are a good development for this. They help keep the greenhouse gas emissions to a minimal. It would be better if over time, everyone uses an electric car.
Instead of cutting down trees to make more space for buildings, we should be planting more trees and plants especially in areas where greens are almost nonexistent.
We only get one life, one Earth, why spend it damaging the planet? Changes need to be made so that extreme weather changes do not happen. The Earth is counting on us.
