he wait is finally over for the MLB fan base during a dreadful long off-season that occurred during the four month hiatus due to the MLB lockout between the players and owners. All American Citizens and citizens around the world understand when spring rolls around everything is in full bloom especially when America’s pastime once again takes center stage this past weekend. The Dodgers fan base will have an opportunity to observe the new team outlook for the 2022 season. However, the Dodgers Organization did some rebuilding as they said goodbye to some key players of the 2020 World Series Champions team like Closer Kenley Jansen, Shortstop Corey Seagar, and Outfielder A.J Pollock just to name a few. On the other hand, the team added some key players like highly praised 1st Baseman Freddie Freeman, Closer Craig Kimbrel, and Starting Pitcher Andrew Heaney to the new look Dodgers. Fruthermore, it will be interesting how a National League team like the Dodgers will use the Universal Designated Hitter in their everyday lineup for either starters or bench players like Infielders

Edwin Rios, Justin Turner, Max Muncy, and Freddie Freeman on a daily basis. Despite having nine innings doubleheaders
for the first few months of the season to catch up on canceled games due to the MLB lockout putting a pause on the start of
the season. As for the Dodgers, their Opening Day was this past Friday vs Colorado Rockies in
Colorado, when Opening Day Starter Walker Buleher took the mound and was in control of the game even though Coors Field is a hitter’s type of ballpark. Buleher only allowed two runs in the Dodgers first victory of the season 5-3 thanks to Gavin Lux , Mookie Betts, and others contributed to the win . Furthermore, as for the second game of the season the Dodgers felt short of a victory vs. Rockies with a score of 3-2 in a nail biting game. Fast forward to when the Dodgers traveled back from their first two road games in Colorado and Minnesota over the past two weeks of the season. Precisely, this Thursday April 14 is their actual home opener vs. Cincinnati Reds for a three game series that includes Jackie Robinson Day on April 15. Then, they are still at home vs. Atlanta Braves, the defending World Series Champions for a three game series from April 18 to the 20. So Get ready, the MLB season is finally here and in full effect for every team. Especially for the Dodgers, if Mookie Betts and the new look Dodgers can rebound from last season and regroup to dominate the season and hopefully put their hands on the 2022 World Series trophy once again for the city of Los Angeles.

ast Wednesday, the Biden administration announced that there would be another pause in student loan payments. This extension is the sixth of the program in the two years of the pandemic and comes less than a month before payments were scheduled to restart on May 1. Biden had been facing pressure
from some Democrats who argued many borrowers aren't ready to shoulder another bill. More than a month ago, a group of Democratic legislators sent a letter to President Biden to extend the term of student debts. They include Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. he city of West Covina began its highly anticipated renovation project of the West Covina Sportsplex in March of 2022. What was once Big League Dreams, the city of West Covina bought the property in December of last year. Plans for the Sportsplex include refurbishment of all six fields and new restaurants set to open in July. Community Services Coordinator Steve Zaragoza is a coordi-
nator of the project and is ready to get the complex open soon. “What stood out instantly was the poor conditions of all six fields and the sportsplex offices,” Zaragoza said. “Thankfully, our previous project in La Puente allowed us to form relationships with a team of professionals and allowed us to form our renovation project here at the Sportsplex.” At the end of this project, every field will have 150 tons of
new infield mix and completely renovated arcs. The use of laser leveling and planting new sod have already begun on two fields. Last month, the Sportsplex hosted the city’s first annual Spring Festival and it was a huge success. Zaragoza and his team of staff are very proud of the turn out that the event had, “Considering we were only given six weeks to put it [Spring Festival] together, I think we
really hit it out of the park,” Zaragoza said. The Spring Festival offered over 150 vendors, carnival rides, live entertainment, and even a beer garden. Due to the successful turnout, the city of West Covina sees this event as a staple in a rotation of special events during the year. Zaragoza and his team at the Sportsplex are now providing baseball and softball fields for reservation only. Starting in
May, an adult softball program will kick off the first competitive games that the new Sportsplex will host. "We strongly believe that the Sportsplex has tremendous potential," Zaragoza said. "Were excited for the near future." The renovation project that started in March, will run through the end of July with new fields and restaurants set to open for tournaments and special events.

Formerly known as the "Big League Dreams," the West Covina Sportsplex began renovating the sportsplex in March. By the end of the renovation the sportsplex will include refurbishment to all 6 of its fields that are replicas of professional baseballfields that are home to teams like the Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees andthe Los Angeles Dodgers. The tentaive completion of the renovations are set for July 2022 according to Community Services coordinator Steve Zaragoza.

President Biden to extend the moratorium until the end of the year, however, this extension is until August 31. The White House said that this is not the right time to restore scheduled payments because the community and the country are still emerging from the COVID-19 and suffering the consequences. Added to this is the high inflation experienced in recent years. Factors that have affected the economy of thousands of Americans. “If loan payments were to resume on schedule in May, analysis of recent data from the Federal Reserve suggests that millions of student loan borrowers would face significant economic hardship, and delinquencies and defaults could threaten Americans’ financial stability,” said President Biden in a statement. He also added that this extension will help borrowers achieve greater financial security to return to payments without causing economic instability. However, not everyone is happy with this extension, since the news broke it has been getting mixed reviews from both Democrats and Republicans. Some of them have expressed their discontent and disappointment through social
media to this decision made by the Biden administration. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y, tweeted her thoughts on the matter. “I think some folks read these extensions as savvy politics, but I don’t think those folks understand the panic and disorder it causes people to get so close to these deadlines just to extend the uncertainty.” She added, “It doesn’t have the effect people think it does,” Also, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-AR, complained about the continued moratorium. “President Biden's perpetual student loan payment moratorium is an insult to every American who responsibly paid debts,” Cotton said via Twitter. The new extension means borrowers with student loans will see payments postponed without penalty or interest accrual for the duration of the pause extension. Additionally, the moratorium only applies to Department of Education student loans and does not apply to borrowers with private loans. To begin the process , first, update your information on your loan servicer’s website and in your StudentAid.gov profile. Then, register or review your auto-debit enrollment. Hulu Releases New Chilling Drama Series Madeline Torres A&E Editor
madeline.torres@my.riohondo.edu
H
ulu has recently just released a new series based on a true crime-chilling story. “The Girl From Plainville,” created by Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus premiered on Hulu on Mar. 29, 2022. The mini-drama series is based on a true “texting-suicide” case that took place in Massachusetts between the mid-2010s. The eight-part mini series retells the tragic death of Conrad Roy, played by Colton Ryan, and Michelle Carter played by Elle Fanning, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter during this case. This mini-series is very different from the documentary about the case that came out back in 2019 on HBO “I Love You, Now Die.” Hulu takes a different approach to retelling the story and shows both perspectives throughout the series showing the personal struggles they deal with and as well as what made the two drawn to each other. More details are added to the show to bring more questions and shed light on topics that maybe weren't thought of during the case. During the actual case, it was said that Carter repeatedly recited lines from the show “Glee” when texting Troy. No one understands the meaning behind Carter’s use of reciting Glee lines so, in the show, they enhanced that small detail and had scenes in the show that was similar to scenes that were in “Glee.” In one of the scenes,
Carter is in a room looking at herself in the mirror saying “I loved him, and he loved me, and he loved all of you guys. I know he did.” in tears. Carter

Hulu premiers “The Girl From Plainville.” The mini series takes place in Massachusetts and a growing romance between two teenagers, Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy, who met on a trip in florida. Their long distance relationships blossoms and it shows their budding romance and lives as teengagers. However their relationship soon takes a dark twisted turn which leads Carter to force Roy to commit suicide.

After meeting each other during their trips they both discovered they both live in Massachusetts. The two teenagers continued their relationship online through shared text messages. Throughout their relationship, they both found out that they struggled with mental health issues. Roy talked
Roy was vulnerable and always shared his suicidal thoughts with Carter sharing he wanted to commit suicide. The comfort that the two both found in each other quickly turned dark and twisted. Carter started encouraging and telling Roy that he should follow through with his suicidal thoughts. During court several messages sent by Carter were brought up, always telling Carter to kill himself. "You keep pushing it off
and say you'll do it but you never do.” However, in court, Carter claimed she was trying to prevent him from harming himself. Roy was then last seen leaving his home and driving off in his truck which is where he committed suicide by poisoning himself with carbon monoxide. For a brief moment though, Roy had second thoughts and exited the vehicle saying he was scared to continue. Texts messages were shown later in court that Carter texted him telling him to get back in his truck. "It's always gonna be that way if you don't take action." After the incident, Carter had played it off as if she had nothing to do with Roy’s death and texted multiple of his friends and family asking if they knew where he was. "She texted my niece a couple of hours later, 'Hey, do you know where your brother is?” Roy’s Aunt Kim Bozzi told ABC News in 2017. After appearing in court, Carter was sentenced to two and a half years in prison but was reduced to only 15 months because she showed good behavior and would be put on probation till the end of this year. And just recently, Carter was spotted outside after being released from jail in April. 7. She was seen doing yard work outside of her home. “The Girl From Plainville,” is now streaming on Hulu and airs every Tuesday if interested in watching the drama series.

toes will save half the world’s population. The invasive Aedes aegypti mosquito spreads diseases such as Yellow fever, Chikungunya fever (CHIK), and Dengue fever. Oxitec captured Aedes aegypti mosquitoes from Mexico’s Chiapas state. The mosquitoes produced by Oxitec will look to breed with the Aedes aegypti to spread the new gene that causes the Female offspring produced to die. This would ensure the population is controlled. Oxitec has trademarked these mosquitoes as “Friendly” mosquitoes. Oxitec was granted permission by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on March 7. Approved was the release of genetically modified mosquitoes on 29,400 acres in the counties of San Bernardino, Fresno, Stanislaus, and Tulare. The initial release will take place in Tulare county in the Central Valley, across 48 different locations. Oxitec proposed they will release 3.5 million mosquitoes a week. This also came as a surprise to residents. There has been some concern about the genetically modified mosquitoes to be released. The residents of Tulare county have yet to be consulted or give consent to this project. A member of the non-profit organization, California for Pesticide
www.elpaisanoonline.com Reform, Angel Garcia, was surprised when he saw flyers for a hiring event. Oxitec was looking to hire field and lab technicians and put up flyers around cities in Tulare county. Garcia reported this and concern had arisen. Scientists outside of Oxitec have also shown concern in the project. They fear the genetically modified mosquitoes will breed stronger hybrid mosquitoes that will only make matters more dangerous to human beings. Oxitec has assured that this will not happen as the “Friendly” mosquitoes are made to breed strategically. These lab-produced mosquitoes will spread the “self-limiting” gene and any Female offspring from this introgression will die. This means the gene will also see its own way out of the population and the DNA will disappear. The scientists at Oxitec also made the mosquitoes more vulnerable to insecticides than the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Even with the reassurance, EPA has required Oxitec to monitor neighborhoods for mosquitoes with the synthetic DNA until the gene can not be found for 10 consecutive weeks. Another reason to be wary is the fact that the Central Valley has a large agricultural industry. The farmers of the land use antibiotics for their citrus groves and livestock. One of these antibiotics is tetracycline and is also
used by Oxitec to raise its bugs. When tetracycline is exposed to the larvae of a genetically modified mosquito it could cause the Female offspring to survive. Having done their research, EPA has required that Oxitec not release any “Friendly” mosquitoes within 500 meters of any commercial citrus grove, livestock facility, or human waste treatment plant. EPA expressed that they are more than willing to shut down the project if problems do arise. Oxitec will use the data from this experiment in California to gain commercial approval for their “Friendly” mosquitoes from the EPA. This achievement would surely increase the private company’s value. Oxitec is owned by private company Third Security. Third Security was founded by billionaire and former lawyer, Randal J. Kirk. Kirk came to wealth by founding and investing in pharmaceutical companies and more recently has been focusing on genetic engineering projects. The true aim for the “Friendly” mosquitoes is to help stop the spread of diseases that are not so friendly to humans. However innovative, who knows what this project could bring. The hopes are that it will control the Aedes aegypti mosquito population, the fear is that it will increase it. Only time and nature will tell.

he second Sunday of every month up to 2,500 vendors set up shop at the Pasadena, Calif. where the Rose Bowl hosts the “Old Tyme'' Flea Market. Bargain hunters and vintage thrifters alike flock to the flea market in hopes of finding the best deal. Admission to the flea market is available for purchase online through Eventbrite. Admission can be purchased for $20 per person valid during the VIP early bird hours 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. regular admission hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for $12 per person and children 12 and under are free with an adult. Frequent thrifter Sopheea Esquibel, was visiting the Rose Bowl “Old Tyme” Flea for the second time in search of Taylor Swift t-shirts and cowboy boots. “The first time I visited the Flea Market was last month, and I got lucky with a cool wrestling t-shirt and Wrestlemania Jersey all for under $40, I’m hoping I get lucky today too.” Many of the flea market’s attendees are familiar with striking a bargain and can be seen haggling their way to
what they think are reasonable prices. Not only does the flea market offer antiques, collectibles and furniture but there are also many booths that offer other items like plants, candles, healing stones, sunglasses, snapbacks, custom clothing, stickers and more. Many of the booths accept cash only, before you enter the Rose Bowl there is a row of ATM machines for your convenience. Most vendors do offer a form of electronic payment more often than not since it is more convenient to Venmo or Paypal someone. If you find yourself thirsty or hungry you can find a food vendor and lemonade stand randomly scattered throughout the grounds. It is highly recommended that you bring your own sealed bottled water since a long day of walking is expected. The Rose Bowl vending areas are not very well shaded so a hat, sunglasses and sunblock are highly recommended to keep yourself from dehydrating or getting a sunburn. Overall you can spend a few hours or the whole day wandering around the flea market looking for the best deal or just enjoying the sights and sounds that the flea market has to offer. The next Rose Bowl Flea Market will be May 8 and all admission tickets are only available online as well as forms to be a vendor.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review Ryan Leon

he newest Lego game from developer TT Games, “Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga”, is here at long last. All nine films in the main Star Wars timeline are available to play through in this latest installment. This makes it the biggest Lego game yet, and one that will bring joy to many fans of the franchise. Once the game is installed, the player is given the choice of which episode in the saga to begin first. From the start, there are only three available options. Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Additional episodes are unlocked when the previous ones are completed. Each episode comes with five levels. Since there are nine films, there are a total of 45 levels to complete. Unfortunately, this hurts the game’s story drastically. With only five levels to an episode, each one feels extremely rushed. This makes important story moments feel insignificant since they are resolved in mere minutes. Certain dialogue feels off as well because of this rushed story progression. Granted, adding every single story beat

he “Happier Than Ever” Billie Eilish World Tour has concluded with the last concert on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Thankfully on Friday, April 8, 2022, I was able to experience an opportunity of a lifetime at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Opening Act
The opening act for this concert was an artist, Dora Jar and her band. She sang around seven songs starting after 7:30 pm. Honestly, her performance was really good and entertaining even though I was unfamiliar with her songs. This unfamiliarity was a common theme for most of the crowd as no one was dancing or recording it. There was also a lack of visuals, but it was fine as is.
keep players busy even longer, especially completionists. Furthermore, there are many moments where memorable lines from the films are utilized in hilarious fashion. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s famous “hello there” for instance, along with plenty of others. In fact, one of the biggest positives of the game is its humor. The Lego games have always put a fun twist on serious moments, and they are an absolute joy to witness. There are tons of laugh out loud moments throughout this game that will entertain even the toughest of crowds. Her best song she performed (according to my sister and I) was “Scab Song”, a song that she says is about a scar on her knee that looked like Hawaii. My sister was really impressed to the point she downloaded all Dora Jar’s songs on Apple Music. Overall, a really good opener that deserved more appreciation. The Bad Before talking about the good parts, let’s talk about the bad parts first. The biggest problem at the concert was the amount of waiting. There was a line for everything: to go inside the venue, the merchandise, and the food/beverages. That leads to my next point where everything there was so expensive and non refundable.
Additionally, gameplay has been given a complete overhaul. Previous Lego games showed characters through a fixed wide camera perspective. That is no longer the case here. The camera has now been changed to a third-person perspective, bringing it in much closer to each character. This is a welcome change. Aiming a blaster weapon with Han Solo or throwing a lightsaber with Kenobi feels more natural. In the older Lego Star Wars games, a simple tap of the left face button would be used to initiate all attacks. However,
with the use of modern controls, the controller’s trigger buttons are utilized more effectively (left to aim, right to fire). Apart from this, character upgrades are available to purchase in various skill trees. These range from general skills such as sprinting faster to specific ones for each character type. Purchased skills may seem lackluster at first, but they do prove to be useful in the long run. For example, being able to collect studs (in-game currency) from further away greatly reduces collecting time. Of course, it wouldn’t be Star Wars without the iconic music that generations of fans have become familiar with. So, it should be noted that John Williams’ legendary score can be heard all throughout the experience. Also, the sound design of the game is excellent. From lightsabers being sheathed and unsheathed, and lasers firing from blasters, the sounds of all are identical to the source. Above all, “Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” is an incredible game that is enjoyable from start to finish. It is certainly the best Lego game to date, but also one of the best Star Wars games ever made. Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars or Lego or both, this game needs to be added to your collection. The force is definitely strong with this one.

For the meantime, the business is currently fine with doing pop ups and letting individuals try samples to expand their clientele. Nevertheless, when entering you are set with a mix of vibes not just a welcoming feeling. But with a Mexican theme of hats and cactus but overall desert vibes. It is a friendly environment especially being outdoors and also having this crazy weather. Looking at the menu you are given two menus, one for beverages and the other for food. For a menu of beverages you get a decent choice of options from your basic juices and coffee. For those seeking a kick you can mix it up with dairy or shots. What catches the eye is the natural juice available to hoose
from which helps along with supplement for a healthy and delicious breakfast. Our choice dealt with the Green Bee juice which is your average green juice. And can not forget your coffee must be decaf and a glass of water. The choice of plate was of course a Mexican signature dish which was called Huevos a la diabla. It consists of eggs and a spicy sauce with tomato and some onion. To top it off it is your choice of either scrambled or sunny-side. Also you get the choice of extra sides like rice or eggs and also your choice of cotija or regular cheese. Suggestion: go with the cotija but add avocado and beans with their signature housemade salsa. To conclude this is of many pop-ups who continue to come outside and try to sell and show individuals their way of cooking to the world.

The management group then decided that they would take the next step to become a playoff team since their last championship in 2014. This season the Kings have a record of 38 wins, 25 losses, and 10 overtime or shootout losses. They are currently third in the Pacific Division with 86 points. Which is a huge improvement from the last few seasons but still not quite enough to clinch the playoff but, doesn’t mean that it’s not out of reach. As of right now, the Calgary Flames are the only team in the Pacific Division of the NHL that has guaranteed a spot in the playoffs because they are first in the Pacific Division and currently have a record of 44 wins, 19 losses, and 9 overtime or shootout losses. Then there's the Edmonton Oilers who have played one less game than the LA Kings, yet they have three more points. While on the hand, Vegas Golden Knights have had a successful month, like the Edmonton Oilers They’ve both slowly but surely crept up into a playoff spot that could potentially eliminate the Kings. While it looks like the Golden Knights won’t catch up it could still potentially happen. At this point in the season everyone has one goal is to get into the playoffs. The wild card race still has the Dallas Stars and the Nashville Predators battling it out while
the Knights try to creep in. If the Kings were to lose the majority of their final nine games, they’ll fall right down to third in the wild card spot.If the LA Kings want to make the playoffs and put up an effort against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers, they must treat every game they have left like they’re in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. If the Kings truly want to compete for the chance to compete for the Stanley Cup in the playoffs. They got it together and won these last nine games. Everything should be left out on the ice because it’s all or nothing at this point of the season.
