O

ne of America’s favorite and well known game show hosts, Alex Trebek, passed away on November 8. Trebek was the host of “Jeopardy” for 37 years and has been a household name for television game shows ever since. He mentioned earlier this year that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and

that the survival rates are not very high. Despite the seriousness of the situation he turned it into a little joke saying, “under the terms of my contract I have to host for 3 more years.” Even though the outcome of his diagnoses was grim Trebek was determined to fight and beat the low survival rates of pancreatic cancer. Although it did not turn out the way we had hoped and prayed for, Alex Trebek will go down in television history as one of the greatest hosts for

game shows. About Alex Trebek Alex Trebek was originally born in Canada in the Ontario region. He graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in philosophy and later worked for CBC working on many news stories. In 1973, Trebek took the next step into television as host of the NBC show “Wizard of Odds”. Trebek has been the host of multiple game shows since then until he made stake in “Jeopardy” in

1984. Since then, he has been the host “Jeopardy” A Good Man Becomes A Legend Aside from the game show, Alex Trebek was a good man at heart. He has been a supporter of World Vision, their goal is to help children in different countries with their education, healthcare, and pure water. He is also a supporter of the USO to help support the troops and their family’s. Trebek was a man who believes in giving back to the community and

people that helped him get to where he is. To him it is a part of life. “I don’t think life

would be as rewarding if I weren’t helping my fellow man out whenever I get the chance”. Alex

Trebek was an amazing game show host, loving person, and now a legend in television history. He will be missed by all who were inspired by his determination and kindness.

Cyberpunk 2077 is Delayed Again

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed for the third time since its original release date on April and will be launched on December 10th. Leslie Lopez A&E Editor

T

he trailer of “Cyberpunk 2077” was released in 2013. A large number of gamers have been waiting for this game to be released for years. As of recently, the game was delayed again and will now launch on Dec. 10th, 2020. The Twitter that Cyberpunk 2077 released stated, "We've decided to move the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21

days. The new release date is 10th December. Most likely, there are many emotions and questions in your heads, so, first and foremost, please accept our humble apologies." Why did the game get delayed again? According to the studio’s bosses, Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski, are working on more improvements on the game so Cyberpunk 2077 would not have any problems on its new release date. The studio wants to make sure that the

gamers do not have any issues with any method of purchasing Cyberpunk 2077 and downloading it to their console. Apparently, the studio did not calculate the amount of time they needed correctly for their touchups. This is not the only time the game got pushed back. Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to arrive this April 2020, but its launched date got postponed until Sept. 17th. Why? For the same reason, to give the game

developers more time to make the game on point and perfect. Sept. 17th was not enough time, so the game got delayed again until Nov. 17th. As we can see, the game was pushed back, AGAIN, until December. Do you think that the studio will finish this time on Dec. if they calculated correctly? I mean, some gamers have been waiting since 2013 for “Cyberpunk 2077” to be released, so I do not think that the studio should finish this time.

Since the related date got pushed back, would this be beneficial for “Cyberpunk 2022?” Or would this backfire because of the new games that will be launched beforehand? Yes, this would benefit “Cyberpunk 2022” because this could be a gift for the holidays and some people do some shopping during December. Also, this would not benefit “Cyberpunks 2020” because some may not have enough money to buy the game because of the new games launched in November.

On October 27th, the account that Cyberpunk 2020 has on Twitter released this statement.

NBPA Approves Dec. 22 Start to Upcoming NBA Season

The December 22nd start to the upcoming NBA season means teams will have limited time than usual for free agency, given training camp starts on December 1st. Enrique Medina Sports Editor

T

he National Basketball Players Association board of representatives voted in approval for a December 22nd NBA season start date on Thursday. The approval would bring a 72 game

NBA season this year, 10 games shorter than the typical 82 game season. Given the short amount of time left until the season start date, the NBA and NBPA have been in discussions as well on the start date for NBA free agency. This presents a difficult situation, however, considering the NBA draft is set for Novem-

ber 18th, and NBA training camps are set to commence on December 1st. After the 2019-20 season was affected by the spread of COVID-19, the NBA season did not end until early October this past season. The usual NBA season ends around early to mid-June. With the approval for the December 22nd start, that

would give NBA players only 71 days since the NBA Finals concluded for their offseason. The 71-day offseason is set to be the shortest ever in NBA History, and also the shortest ever in NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL History according to Elias Sports Bureau. NBA and Laker superstar, LeBron James, was quick to

show his emotions on social media because of the upcoming NBA start date. On social media, James posted a face emoji with the emoji putting a hand over his head, almost as a sign of discontent for the short NBA offseason. Los Angeles Laker guard, Danny Green also expressed an interesting point with the upcoming season prior to the recent announcement. When rumblings were occurring for a potential 72 game season, Green explained that many NBA players may use the load management strategy throughout the season as a way to keep their bodies in shape, given the short turnaround time from the end of last season, to the start of this upcoming season. The 72 game season and specifically, the December 22nd start date, will allow for the NBA season to end prior to the Summer 2021 Olympics. It also allows for nationally televised Christmas day games and is set to potentially be big financially for the league, allowing for a worth of $500 million to $1 billion in short term and long term revenue. Before the 72 game season is finalized though, other issues such as safety issues, and financial issues will need to be situated before anything is final.

This Holiday Season is going to be the Death of us Stephinie Phan Opinion Editor

stephinie.phan4180@my.riohondo.edu

I

Justin Fuentes for El Paisano Media This image is depicted with a shape with what we all think as Fall, the Maple Leaf, but there's a catch the mask design is inside to showcase the idea of a safer holiday season in the fashion of a cute logo.

t's finally the Fall after a painfully long Summer. I don't know about everyone else, but the busiest time of the year is near the end, especially now with holidays like Halloween and the election that just past and our boys the LA Dodgers winning the World Series, the number of COVID cases has spiked every time. This is only the beginning because November has its own set of events as well as Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the Macy Parade back to back. There's a storm waiting to happen, mostly in the colder weather to come. People would be itching for deals, family time, to leave their homes for something new, and let's not forget the turkey. Let's be honest: having a safe holiday might be more difficult than ever now with the number of people thinking it's against their right or a government conspiracy or a Chinese war tact and even a lie. These holidays are the launching pad for December events like Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years. These holidays will be the death of us if we all don't take the safety procedures. With the dropping in temperature and flu season, anyone is on the one-way track into a hospital bed. Not to mention the dangers you could face without the

existence of Covid like travel accidents, decoration fires, and such. As much as it sucks not to see nana or even see giant types of balloons floating in the sky and getting that good deal. Is one missed holiday that bad as compared to the risk of possibly never seeing them ever again? Black Friday should stay online, and holiday dinners should be with an immediate family living with you and giving them nana a call video call her even. You will have many more holidays to come. It's a collective effort. As humans, we have a sense of duty to take care of our neighbors and protect this planet, so I believe this holiday season should be changed till we can safely be crazy again. Because the people who think this is crazy or a bad idea, do you know or have you seen anyone who had Covid? Do you know anyone influential online who has it? The stories and documentaries and your nextdoor neighbor could have it and not even know. Just because this isn't happening to you or someone you know personally doesn't mean it's not real. There are people on the front line seeing this like our doctors and nurses every day, and this is real life, not some government trick or game. So please, everyone, have an actual safe holiday season and make better choices.

Stranger Things is the Best Show on Netflix Alyson Gonzalez Editor-in-Chief

I

f you don’t have a Netflix account, make one! You have to check out “Stranger Things” on Netflix. If you like horror mixed with sci-fi, then you will enjoy the series. “Stranger Things” is a Netflix original series set in the 1980s about a young boy who disappears from a small town. After he disappears, unusual situations begin to occur. Supernatural entities, government secrets, and even a little girl are revealed after one boy vanishes. “Stranger Things” was written by the Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross Duffer. The show has familiar faces such as Winona Ryder from the films Beetlejuice and Heathers. It gets even better. Since the program is set in the 1980s, there are pop culture easter eggs throughout the show. Those who grew up in the 1980s will have some flack back about their childhood. The Netflix show will make you feel like you are in the 1980s in your living room. Get ready to sing along to the classic 80s tunes. The show is a 1980s soundtrack. You will hear songs like Material Girl by Madonna and Every Breath You Take by the Police. The television show is filled with humor

from the whole cast. You will fall in love with the actors and their characters. “Stranger Things” is one of the most popular shows on Netflix. It even has its holiday every year on November 6. The original series is a horror and science fiction program. However, it is not too scary. There is nothing gory with blood about it. It is more of an unknown horror type of show. The show isn’t rated R, but more of a PG-13 kind of content. Overall I give the show a 9 out of 10. It is one of my favorite original shows on Netflix. I would recommend this show to everyone. Every time a new season comes out, there is always excitement. At the moment, the cast is filming season 4. At first, it was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, there is a “Stranger Things” event in Los Angeles. It is a COVID safe, drive-thru experience. I will be attending in late November. The event started in late October and will be going on till March. Tickets can be bought through the platform Fever. They are selling out fast. The closest date for the event is in February. If you love “Stranger Things” and want to experience a live-action performance, then this is the event to go to!

The Pop Culture circling Stranger Things has built a whole franchise where fans have proudly display their nerd hood through these purchases.

A Message From the Dean of Library Mike Garabedian Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of RĂo Hondo College Library, with gratitude and reverence, today we remember the armistice that concluded World War I—“the war to end all warsâ€?—was signed 102 years ago, at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. Among allied nations November 11 became a day of remembrance for the estimated ten million soldiers and nine million civilians who died in the conflict and was known as Armistice Day until World War II, when its name was changed to Remembrance Day in Britain and to Veterans Day in the U.S. (a holiday RHC will observe this Friday). Though their singularly horrific and tragic experiences in World War I resulted in soldiers on both sides producing a slew of wartime art and literature, perhaps no work is as closely associated with those who fell in the conflict as John McRae’s 1915 poem “In Flanders Fields.â€? A tribute to the war dead that is poignant in its own right, allow me to suggest the poem is especially moving in a choral version arranged by Stephen Chatman, and performed at a sister institution in 2015 by the Glendale Community College Concert singers. You can view this two-minute performance here. For those so interested, RĂo Hondo College Library has an abundance of online resources that take up the history of the First World War.
