eginning Wednesday, all outdoor dining will be shut down in Los Angeles County to stop the spread of Coronavirus. This announcement follows the 10 PM to 6 AM curfew implemented on businesses last Friday night. Drive-thru, takeout, and delivery services will still be operational. Further restrictions will be enforced if the five-day average infection rate is sill above 4,000. Health Officials announced a three week “safer at home order” will be brought back into effect if the number grows above 4,500 or if hospitals become overrun. Many businesses have

suffered as an effect of this year’s earlier shut down and many more are not expected to survive this one. Outdoor dining barley kept most small businesses afloat and has put a strain on employees who work fewer hours. The public announcements were met with resistance. A large, mostly maskless, group protested the curfew and shutdown orders in Huntington Beach Saturday. Another protest in Fresno demanded Governor Gavin Newsom to open California. Not all cities are onboard with the restrictions either. Pasadena and Long Beach have their own departments and are currently debating whether to follow along the rest of the County.

Restaurants have setup outdoor dining using tents as a way to keep their business running.

A

s a result of the new Los Angeles City public health order, restaurants will not be allowed to provide outdoor dining beginning Wednesday. Whittier has decided to not reopen their Uptown promenade, and keep it closed to vehicular traffic. The Greenleaf Promenade’s website did state that they will provide 14 takeout areas on Greenleaf Avenue, and Bailey Avenue. Whittier city manager Brian Saeji said,

“We’re hoping it will help restaurants with takeout options making pick-ups easier for them.”

The loss of outdoor dining is a result of a new set of rules to begin at 10 p.m. Wednesday. The rules limit restaurants, breweries, wineries, and bars to takeout, drive-thru, or delivery service for at least the next three weeks. The new restrictions are in response to a big surge in coronavirus cases. Los Angeles county averaged over 20,000 new cases reported in only five days

T

he Youtube web series “Dinner with the D’Amelio’s” premiered on Nov. 16. It is about the D’Amelio family, such as TikTok stars Charlie and Dixie D’Amelio, who have dinner with mystery guests. In the first episode, the D’Amelio family sit with James Charles and eat dinner prepared by their personal chef Aaron May. According to Marc D’Amelio, Charlie and Dixie’s father, May is his “favorite chef” and “a good friend” of the family. Fans said the TikTok stars were disrespectful throughout the dinner. First, Charlie was shown to be making faces while May was explaining the dinner course. It

was shown to be disrespectful as May was trying to talk, and you can clearly see Charlie make faces. Then, the older sister, Dixie, found a snail in her paella dish. The snail is part of the paella dish. When she found out, she made a confused face and asked what it was. The cook explains that the snail represents “an omen of good luck and fortune.” Dixie responds by saying, “I just touched his liver.” She starts to gag and is disgusted by the snail on her plate. The cooks explain to Dixie that eating it will bring good luck and good fortune, and she eats it. At first, she likes it but then throws up on the side, off-camera. Her parents call her dramatic, and Dixie runs to the backyard to throw up more. She states to the camera, “I threw

up,” and returns to the table. Towards the end, the family talked about their career and follower account when Dixie commented on her follower count. She talks about wanting to hit 100 million followers on the social media platform TikTok. James Charles responds to Charlie’s comment, “Was the 95 not enough for you?” Charlie states, “I was just saying like even numbers.” Then Dixie cuts her sister off and ends the episode. Fans said that the D’Amelio sisters were disrespectful and needed table manners. After the episode premiere, fans started unfollowing Charlie D’Amelio. She lost over 1 million followers. However, after a few days, Charlie became the first TikTok star to hit 100 million followers on TikTok.

en Watkins, the ‘MasterChef Junior’ star who turned fourteen years old in September, has died because of a form of cancer on Nov 16th Monday. His parents died in 2017 in a murder-suicide. Watkins’ father, Michael Watkins, shot and killed the boy’s mother, Leila Edwards, and then took his own life. After his parent's death, Watkins was being taken care of by his grandma and uncle. Even in the wake of his parents’ deaths, Watkins remained

cheerful and fun-loving. A little after his parent’s death, he was diagnosed with cancer shortly after his 13th birthday. He has been battling with cancer for eighteen months from an extremely rare form of cancer called angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information website, it stated how “Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) is a rare soft tissue tumor most commonly occurring in children, adolescents, and young adults. Clinically and radiographically the lesion is

easily confused with a hematoma, soft tissue hemangioma, or malignant fibrous histiocytoma. While the lesion is rare, due to the potential for local recurrence and metastasis, it is imperative to consider this lesion in the differential diagnosis of a soft tissue mass in a child or adolescent. Here, we present the clinical, radiologic, and pathologic findings of a case of AFH.” Gordon Ramsay donated $50,000 to Ben Watkins’ cancer treatment back in August at the Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. When Watkins was eleven

years old, he appeared on the sixth season of “MasterChef Junior” on Fox-TV. He was known as a fan favorite because of his kindness. He ended up finishing in the top 18 when he was eleven years old. Watkins’ dream was to open his bakery or restaurant someday, just like his father did with Big Ben’s Bodacious Barbecue & Deli, named in honor of Ben, who worked there. On the MasterChef Junior show, any child between the ages of eight and thirteen can apply to become a contestant on the series. One could

apply online or by going to an open casting call. When the contestants are once elected, the children are competing to win the season. The children compete by their skill test, elimination test, mystery box challenge, team challenge, and pressure test. After the finalists go against each other in a three-course cook-off, their meals will get judged. The winner receives $100,000, the MasterChef Junior trophy, and the title of MasterChef Junior. Some seasons may add other prizes, but it depends.

The Sins of Sor Juana Juan Huerta News Editor

juan.huerta7050@my.riohondo.edu

T

hrough the dates of November 19th-23rd, Rio Hondo’s Theatre Program presented their version of The Sins of Sor Juana written by Karen Zacarias and directed by William Korf. Due to the pandemic, this play was a whole different experience for both the audience, set crew, and the actors and actresses. The show was made possible by the IBM Video Streaming channel, and arrangements made with Dra-

matic Publishing, all who took part in the show created their own at home sets to stay safe and help contain the spread of Covid-19. The play is about the life of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz crucial struggles she faced in the 17th century for being a smart, independent woman. Sor Juana was one of the few published poets of the Americas. She was born in Mexico in 1648. She was born extremely poor, but she had one gift that not many had her intelligence. At the young age of twelve, Sor Juana got

caught attempting to sneak into the University of Mexico. She was dressed as a man. Sor Juana did this because women weren't allowed to pursue an education. After that happened, the Viceroy of New Spain heard of her talents and determination. The Viceroy asked her to be part of the court. For the next five years, Sor Juana gained a lot of knowledge, and her writing became excellent. At the age of 17, she suddenly abandoned the court and joined a convent. The dialogue explained theories of possible

failed love or even an unwanted marriage that drove her away from the court. As a nun at the convent, Sor Juana was suppressed of her intelligence because she wasn't giving her all to God; writing plays and poems in peace were all she wanted, but the convent wouldn't allow that. She continued to pursue her dreams until one day, she vowed never to write again, and she never did. The play takes place at a convent in New Spain, near Mexico City, in the late 17th century. Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz,

who was played by extremely talented Rio Hondo student Rosa Loza took the role and channeled all the energy needed to make the audience feel as if we were there. The rest of the cast also embodied their roles and showcased their talents so effectively through their computer screens. They made me extremely proud to know that students at our campus were able to showcase their talents while still following social distancing guidelines, Bravo!

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Review Raymond Luna Editor-in-Chief

T

he holiday season is in full swing, and that can only mean one thing— another Call of Duty video game. With much success of Call of Duty Warzone, Cold War is nothing short of disastrous. After making a Best Buy run to purchase my copy of the game, I come home and quickly do the install. It took maybe about two hours depending on internet speeds. Realizing the install was finished, I was ready to hop online and play the game, until I received a "partially installed" error message.

How can I partially install a game? I had all the required storage space on my Xbox, and my internet connection was good. There shouldn't have been anything wrong with the game. I was furious! I decided to do the most logical thing, and I uninstalled the game. Since it was already late, I decided to let it install overnight to play the following day after work. After 24 hours, I get back on the Xbox to find the same error message! I had no idea what was going on. I hopped on Reddit to see if I can find out what was happening. It turns out, many people were experiencing this issue, and the way to fix the problem

was to uninstall Multiplayer and Zombies through the "My games & App" menu since the only thing that was working was the campaign. Luckily, this fixed my issue. It took two days before I was able to play multiplayer and Nazi Zombies. Was waiting a whole two days worth it? Probably not. The game seems unfinished and too glitchy. From unloading an entire clip on someone to zombie matches freezing and kicking me off the server, I'd say it was $60 wasted. I'm hoping future updates resolve a lot of these issues. For now, I'll stick with Warzone. Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War gets a 5/10.

Black Ops Cold War was released on November 13 and is rated M. The game is available for purchase on all major platforms.

Lakers OffSeason and Free Agency Starts Off with a Bang Enrique Medina Sports Editor

ith NBA Free Agency starting Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers had lots on the table going into the weekend. The Lakers had Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Markieff Morris, Anthony Davis, Quinn Cook among others going into free agency. Coming fresh off of a championship, their first in ten years, the goal for Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka is to create the best possible roster for another title again next year. Despite having lots of free agents on the market from last year’s championship team, there have been many valuable players that can create a large impact on the Lakers roster. The Lakers were taking charge even before the free agency period started. On NBA

draft night, the Lakers officially made their acquisition of point guard Dennis Schröder from the Oklahoma City Thunder via trade, and for draft pick guard Danny Green. The move was made in preparation in case veteran point guard Rajon Rondo were to leave the team via free agency. This has been a vital move since Rondo, Howard and Bradley have all left to other teams in free agency. Schröder is expected to take the floor general role with the Lakers, a similar role Rondo played during his time in Los Angeles. While the Lakers add Schröder, they did not stay quiet there. On the first day of free agency, the Lakers were quick to sign ex-Milwaukee Bucks guard Wesley Matthews to a 1 year, $3.6 million dollar deal. Matthews, 34, played in 67 games for Milwaukee last season, averaging 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 24.4 minutes per game. After Matthews, the Lakers signed ex-Clippers center and power forward, Montrezl Harrell. Harrell, 26, won the NBA’s sixth man of the year last season for being the best bench player in the NBA. Harrell brings a vast amount of energy, rebounding, inside scoring, and hustle to the Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers after winning the 2020 NBA Title have lost five players from the team already through free agency and trades. Despite this, GM Rob Pelinka has replaced them with very capable players (Schroder, Matthews, Harrell, and Gasol). The new players will arrive for training camp, which is set to start December 1st with the NBA season starting on December 22nd. team. On top of signing Harrell and Matthews, they re-signed veteran forward Markieff Morris to a one-year deal, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a three-year deal, and veteran center Marc Gasol, the brother of ex-Laker, Pau Gasol. Gasol, 35, signed a 2 year deal with the Lakers after averaging 7.5 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, and 3.3 assists per game. Gasol was a part of the Raptors championship two years ago and will become a vital role to bringing leadership on the Lakers roster. In order to make

space for Gasol, the Lakers traded away Javale McGee to the Cleveland Cavaliers. With the signing of Gasol, the Lakers have left enough on the table to resign Anthony Davis to a large contract. Recent reports have stated that depending on whether Bucks superstar and 2020 NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo signs a contract extension, it may decide the deal Davis signs. Davis may decide to sign a 1+1 deal which would allow the Lakers to pursue Antetokounmpo next summer in free agency. With this being

a potential possibility, Davis has made it clear that he will be patient with how he decides to resign with the Lakers, but he will return. Many have praised Lakers GM Rob Pelinka for his moves already up to this point with Magic Johnson even stating on Twitter, “the Lakers will be younger and more talented than last season’s championship team.” As free agency continues and training camps start December 1st, the Lakers are set to make another championship run for the new season.
