Trump Is More At Risk of Having a Severe Case of Covid Alyson Gonzalez

O
n Friday Oct. 2, the U.S President, Donald Trump, announced that he tested positive for COVID-19 along with his wife, first lady Melania Trump. Trump is more at risk of getting a serious COVID-19 infection because of his age, weight, and sex. Although, being the President of the United States especially with a dangerous virus, it comes with advantages. It is common that men in their 70s have a mild heart disease. Trump has one and he takes a statin drug to prevent heart attacks. At the age of 74, he is at a higher risk of being hospitalized and dying. The COVID death rate for people of ages 65 to 74 is about 10.4%. Individuals between those ages have a higher chance of being hospitalized and dying because of the coronavirus compared to younger individuals such as ages 18 to 29. The older you are, the more dangerous coronavirus is to you. President Donald Trump is an obese man. He weighs 244 with a body-mass index of 30.4.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people who have a BMI that is over 30 are likely to get a severe case of COVID-19. He is overweight which puts him in a place where he could have caught COVID-19, but indeed he did get it. There is always competition about what men and women can and can’t do. Well, in this case, men are more likely to get coronavirus than women. The death rate of men dying from COVID-19 is about 54% while the woman’s rate is about 45%. It is unknown why men experience more serious diseases than women. It may have to do with the biological differences as women have a stronger and faster immune response. President Donald Trump’s age, weight, and sex puts in a group where he can get a serious case of COVID-19. Also, he did refuse to wear a mask, meaning that it was easy for him to be exposed and to contract the virus. The symptoms of Trump are mild. He was experiencing mild cough, nasal congestion, and fatigue. On Saturday Oct. 3, doctors said that Trump
didn’t have a fever for 24 hours. Also, Trump received antibody therapy for 48 hours including a five-day course of the drug remdesivir. Although, the risks of Trump don’t matter as he is the President of the United States. Therefore, he is going to get the best medical care. Though, his race and wealth has to do with his health. He is a rich white man. Since he is also the president, he has access to the best doctors and hospitals. President Trump tweeted on
Monday, “Don’t be afraid
of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge”. Other people in the U.S don’t have access to doctors or even have health care. As for many indiviuals in the pandemic, he isn’t going to lose his housing or job because of contracting coronavirus. President Donald Trump isn’t another typical COVID-19 patient.

Voting Options for the 2020 Election
In 2018, the amount of college students that voted double, predictions expect that number to increase once again. Juan Huerta News Editor

A
s the 2020 presidential election comes closer millions of Americas are preparing for Nov. 3 and how they’ll cast their votes this year due to our current living situation in the United States where 7.4 million Americans have contracted Covid-19 and highly populated areas don’t seem safe to attend. Luckily, our options are
not limited and there is three ways for Americans to cast their votes while still staying safe. The first and easiest option is traditional voting, you can register to vote online up until Oct. 19, after that deadline you can still register to vote but you’d have to wait until election day and register at your local voting poll. In-person voting polls have dedicated time and money into making sure election day is safe and social distancing guidelines are followed
to keep everyone safe! The second option is voting early, this option is only available in some states, but most have agreed to allow it for this year’s election. Voting early is available starting Oct.5-Nov.2. Check your states guidelines and find your nearest early voting poll on the US vote foundation website. The third option is requesting in absentee ballot, many states like California and New York have made this option
available for everyone and automatically mailed out ballots to all registered voters. Other From now until election day voters are allowed to mail in their ballots or drop them off at their local election office, polling place or ballot drop box. All ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by Nov. 20. Due to the pandemic someone else may submit your ballot for you if for any reason you can’t complete the process. Exercising your right to

vote is one of the many privileges Americans have. While voting can seem unimportant to some, remember to acknowledge your privilege and educate yourself on all the candidates and props that will be on this year’s ballot. Your life and loved ones can be affected by many of these decisions, register to vote!

he happiest place on Earth hasn't been so happy in the last few months. Following the effects of Covid-19, Disneyland was forced to remain closed since mid-March. On September 30, The Walt Disney Co. announced
that they would be forced to lay off 28,000 employees covering both California and Florida locations, with about two-thirds of the layoffs being part-time employees. Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro said that a closed Disneyland is to blame for the layoffs. "Over the past several months, we've been forced to make a number
of necessary adjustments to our business," "And as difficult as this decision is today, we believe that the steps we are taking will enable us to emerge a more effective and efficient operation when we return to normal." Florida resumed operations with limited capacity, but with California still closed it
caused a substantial financial blow losing an estimated $500 million for every two weeks that the resort is shut down. A group of state lawmakers urged Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow California theme parks to resume operations. “We need attainable guidelines that allow our theme parks and convention center to safely reopen soon to get peo-
ple back to work and to restore our economy,” Anaheim mayor Harry Sidhu said via email. “If pausing for the moment helps reach that goal, then that is best for now. But time is of the essence. Each day that goes by, the economic toll is rising for working families, small businesses and our city.” Guidelines have yet to be released.

is still being investigated. Images of the crash scene posted on the business’ Instagram account showed the truck made it onto the front step of the shop, which showed several cracks, a broken door and windows. Building and safety officials have deemed the shop unsafe to operate, so they have closed until further notice. The unforeseen cost of repairs pushed the owners to reach out to the local community and ask
for help. They now have a “Go Fund Me” account with a goal of $15,000. The latinx-owned business opened their doors to Whittier in June of 2019. Their shop promotes local artists and other small businesses. Their menu ranges from coffee to Wine and CBD drinks. They have currently raised $10,000 of their goal and will hopefully reopen soon.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Losing Their Baby Leslie Lopez A&E Editor

C
hrissy Teigen and her husband, the singer John Legend, were expecting their third child. The couple had named their son Jack. Teigen has been posting on social media about how she has been having complications with her pregnancy after a month of bleeding because of her weak placenta. Who would not get concerned at this point? On Sept. 30th, the couple made a heartbreaking announcement on social media. They lost their baby, and Teigen was pregnant around 20-24 weeks. The couple already has two children; four-year-old daughter Luna and two-year-old son Miles. Legend and Teigen did not decide on their other two children’s names until they left the hospital. Before their third child passed away, the couple called their baby Jack, while he was still in her belly. Teigen shared on her Instagram post, “We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.” Legend retweeted her and added, "We love you, Jack." He also included that with five black love hearts. If the baby or babies dies before twenty-four weeks, it is known as a late fetal loss or a miscarriage. Just because one lost their baby for that reason, it does not mean that person is a terrible mother or a bad parent. Things happen unexpectedly every day, and not each day is full of happiness. Imagine going home without a baby? How have you been waiting patiently to take a new family member to your home and holding the baby in your arms? The feeling must be unbearable or even worse. I have never been through that before, so I do not know how it is like to feel that way, but others do. On Twitter, Teigen wrote, “Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real.” Underneath that post, she also shared an image. Teigen uploaded a black-and-white photo, showing her sitting on a hospital bed. It seems like tears are running down her face, and her hands clasped in a prayerlike position. When I saw this photo, I honestly felt sad and sorry for her. No one should go through his pain, but sometimes, we do not have control over what will occur next. Yes, miscarriage happens all the time, and it occurs every day. Some women do

not like to bring up this topic and have been silent around it. Others are afraid to bring up the subject because of how people react, and it could be
nerve-wracking. With Teigen sharing the news on social media and documenting her experience, the couple has been getting support from peo-
ple worldwide. Other people shared their stories on social media of what it was like for them when they lost their baby and their journey. It is okay to
be afraid. Just remember that one is not alone, and there is someone who wants to help one cheer up and get support.

he Jaime Foxx was in the 2014 film, The Amazing Spider-man 2, with Andrew Garfield playing Spider-man. He played a villain character called Electro. Also, the actor who plays Spider-man has changed. It went from Andrew Garfield to Tom Holland. Tom Holland currently plays Peter Parker, also known
as Spider-man in the latest installments. Now, Jaime Foxx will reprise his role as Electro in the upcoming “Spider-man 3” film. Marvel has not commented about the return of Foxx’s role, but fans have been excited about it and that there might be a live-action “Spider-verse.” The director of Spider-man: Homecoming and Spider-man: Far From Home, Jon Watts, is also going to be the director of the third film. The third film will
be in 2021, but it could change because of the pandemic. Filming will begin in the Fall in Atlanta, GA. Most of the supporting cast such as Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, and Jacob Batalon, will be scheduled to return as their roles in the previous films. The 2014 film, The Amazing Spider-man 2, which starred Garfield and Foxx as Spider-man and Electro, failed and underperformed at the box office. As a result, Sony
made a deal with Marvel Studios to share the character, Spider-man. It led to Holland playing Spider-man in the Avengers movies with Marvel actor, Robert Downey Jr, and vice versa. Even though the performance of The Amazing Spider-man 2 failed, Foxx is still a favorite in Hollywood, and being cast makes fans excited. He is starring in a Netflix Superhero drama, Project Power, and is one of the voice actors in the
film, Soul, an upcoming Pixar feature. Foxx confirmed on Instagram that he was returning as Electro. On Friday, on his Instagram, Foxx, said "Super excited to be part of the new Marvel Spider-Man new installment." He continued, "And I won't be blue in this one!! but a thousand percent badass!!!" Later, he deleted the Instragram post. There are tweets and memes about Foxx’s comeback as the villain and the possible “Spider-verse.”

Wild Card Domination!
Photo Screenshot Courtesy of ESPN For El Paisano Media
The Dodgers were able to take care of business in the Wild Card Series thanks to two great starting pitching performances by Walker Buehler in Game 1 and Clayton Kershaw in Game 2. First year Dodger Mookie Betts came up huge in the short two game series, hitting two doubles and driving in three RBI's in the sweep. For the NLDS, Buehler will again pitch Game 1, while Kershaw will start Game 2 versus the Padres. Enrique Medina Sports Editor

T
he Dodgers completed their Wild Card Series sweep after defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 in Game 1 Wednesday and 3-0 in Game 2 on Thursday night. The Game 2 win officially punched the Dodgers ticket into the National League Division Series that starts Tuesday from the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. With the new playoff format, the Dodgers came into the Wild Card Series with homefield advantage and needing to win only two games out of three to advance to the next round. This new format did bring the possibility of a potential upset with the series being first to two victories. This theme proved to be the case with the Astros defeating the Twins in their matchup in the AL and the Marlins defeating the Cubs in their first-round matchup. Even with this possibility, this theme did not present itself in the Dodgers/Brewers series. In Game 1, the Dodgers were able to get a huge 4-2 win with the Dodgers being backed by 4 innings by starter and 2019 AllStar Walker Buehler. Buehler, 26, despite making only his second start since returning from the Injured List from a blister issue was able to punch out a stellar eight batters in the game while only walking two, and keeping runs at a minimum. The only offense off of Buehler the entire game was a two-run homerun off the bat of Brewers shortstop Orlando Arcia who also homered off of Buehler in Game 3 of the NLCS back in 2018. Buehler was backed by stel-
lar relief appearances by Julio Urias, Blake Treinen, and Kenley Jansen in the win. Urias went three strong innings to back Buehler, throwing shutout ball and striking out five while only giving up three hits. Treinen worked a scoreless eighth and then Jansen shut out the door in the ninth, striking out 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich to end Game 1. As for the offense, the offense was able to come out firing on all cylinders, scoring three runs in the first two innings off of Brewers opener Brent Suter. The offense would go stagnant for the majority of the game that followed, but backed by the stellar pitching, Corey Seager’s 447 foot home run in the 7th would be the icing on the cake and the insurance needed for the 4-2 Game 1 win. Prior to Game 1, already one of the big issues lingering through the Brewers ball club would be the depth in their starting pitching rotation and back end of their bullpen. Starter and Cy Young candidate Corbin Burnes was not healthy to pitch in the series and Rookie of the Year candidate Devin Williams was also not on the Wild Card roster due to a shoulder issue. On top of this, the Brewers would not have star starter Brandon Woodruff available to start until Game 2. Game 2 wound up seeing the pitching matchup that included Woodruff, up against Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw. Through the first four innings, the game wound up being an intense pitchers duel between Woodruff and Kershaw as both held zero’s on the board. It was not until the fifth inning when the Dodgers striked
first on the scoreboard. After a Will Smith strikeout, Cody Bellinger and Christ Taylor proceeded with back to back hits to put runners on first and second for A.J Pollock with one out. This is when the key deciding moment occurred in the Dodgers favor as Pollock would proceed to ground a slow grounder to Brewers third baseman Luis Urias. The play was set for Urias to step on third and throw quickly to first to complete an inning ending double play. On the play though, Urias stepped on third, but then threw a one hop bouncer to first baseman Jedd Gyrko which he was not able to corral. The play left Austin Barnes the opportunity to cash in with two outs, in which he did, providing a go ahead single that put the Dodgers ahead. Mookie
Betts followed Barnes with a vital two run double that put the Dodgers up three, which would be all the run support Clayton Kershaw needed on the night. Kershaw was spectacular on the night as he arguably put up the best postseason start of his career. On the night Kershaw would wind up tallying a postseason career high 13 strikeouts, allowing only one walk in eight innings of shutout ball. That would be more than enough as Brusdar Graterol came in for the save, shutting the door on the Brewers season and opening the door for the Dodgers date in the NLDS. The Dodgers will wind up facing the San Diego Padres on Tuesday in Game 1 of the National League Division Series from Globe Life Field after the Padres wound up defeating the
St. Louis Cardinals in game 3 of their Wild Card Series Friday night. The upcoming series may turn out to be the Dodgers toughest opponent to date, as the Dodgers wound up winning six of ten vs the Padres on the year. The Padres were a team that gave the boys in blue a lot of trouble this season up to date. The Padres have the team to compete with the Dodgers. The series will put superstars Mookie Betts, Fernando Tatis Jr, Manny Machado, Clayton Kershaw and others up against each other for a chance for competing in the National League Championship Series. Game 1 is set for Tuesday, October 6th on FS1 as the Dodgers aim to go up 1-0.
Photo Screenshot Courtesy of ESPN For El Paisano Media
Clayton Kershaw threw arguably his best Postseason outing in Game 2, becoming only the third Dodgers pitcher in Franchise History to surpass 13 strikeouts in a playoff game. Kershaw will take the hill in Game 2 of the Division Series at the Texas Rangers' Globe Life Field, pitching only minutes away from the neighboorhood he grew up in. Kershaw last faced thePadres on September 14th, earning a tough loss versus Padres' starter Dinelson Lamet in which Kershaw pitched 6.1 innings giving up three earned runs.

Rams Take Down Giants in Crucial Win Samuel Garcia Reporter
samuel.garcia8465@my.riohondo.edu
A
gainst a surprisingly stingy New York defense, the Los Angeles Rams toppled the Giants 17-9. Here’s what we learned from SoFi Stadium: Coming into this game, the Rams had earned about 100 yards rushing in each of the last three games. Meanwhile, the Giants had failed to reach that mark in any of the previous games. In fact, their leading rusher was quarterback Daniel Jones (92 yards). That wasn’t the case today, as the Rams finished with a measly 58 total yards rushing. Running back Malcolm Brown led the way with just 37 yards. Meanwhile, the Giants finished with 136 rushing yards, with Daniel Jones and running back Wayne Gallman each finishing with 45 yards. Weird times at SoFi Stadium. I don’t know if Los Angeles read my article from last week, but it sure seemed like it. Facing an 0-3 Giants team, L.A. went into cruise mode after scoring a touchdown on their opening drive. Their following drives went as follows: fumble, punt, field goal, punt. With roughly seven minutes left in the game and faced with 3rd&3, Rams quarterback Jared Goff found receiver Cooper Kupp over the
middle for a 55 yard touchdown. The late score gave L.A. their 17-9 lead and effectively sealed the win. Give it up for the Rams defense. The unit prevented New York from scoring a single touchdown, making them settle for field goals. Prior to scoring the go ahead touchdown, L.A. was faced with a 3rd&3 on defense. Daniel Jones three a pass to receiver Golden Tate for negative yardage thanks to a timely tackle by Rams defensive back Jalen Ramsey. Following a turnover on downs by the New York offense, the Rams’ offense ran three plays for a whopping single yard. With roughly two minutes to go in regulation, the Giants marched 62 yards down the field thanks to a Daniel Jones 13 yard scramble on 2nd&10. Doing his best Eli Manning impersonation, Jones somehow avoided a cluster of Rams defenders (and a surefire sack) for the first down. Then, faced with a 2nd&5, Jones tried to squeeze a pass into Damion Ratley’s waiting arms, but was intercepted thanks to a diving catch by Rams defensive back Darious Williams. Game over. Next Sunday, L.A. travels to D.C. to take on the Washington Football Team, who are coming off a crushing loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Kickoff takes place at FedEx Field at 10 a.m. PST.

he Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Miami Heat 115-104 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Despite the loss the Lakers still remain with the 2-1 series advantage, only needing to win two more games to
crown themselves the 2020 NBA Champions. Through three games there have been ups and downs that have led the Lakers to a 2-1 series advantage. Despite going down 13 points early in the first quarter in Game 1 of the Finals, the Lakers were able to come back and regain the lead 31-28
after the first quarter. The rest of the way the Lakers would go on an 85-70 run, winning by the end score of 116-98. Game 1 saw the Lakers grit both defensively and offensively. The Laker were able to get a huge margin of win in Game 1 thanks to 54 Laker rebounds compared to the only 36

The Lakers are pushing for their 17th Championship in team history. With a 2-1 lead through three games, with only two victories the Lakers mission would be complete. In each of their first three playoff matchups, the Lakers won each series in five games.
for Miami on the night. This led to more possession of the ball for Los Angeles and was a key factor in the Lakers outshooting the Heat with 15 three-pointers compared to the Heat’s 11 three-pointers. The story of Game 2 was very similar to Game 1 as the Lakers outshot Miami with 16 three-pointers vs Miami’s 11 three-pointers. The Lakers again showed determination defensively, getting more steals and blocks on the night and also outrebounding Miami on the boards again. The defensive efficiency and job on the boards was an essential part in the Lakers getting two huge victories to start off the finals. This is without mentioning as well, the amazing performance of Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and company in both Games 1 and 2 of the Finals. Despite the rebounding edge again in Game 3 of the Finals, the Lakers were not able to come out victorious. The story in Game 3 saw a lot more sloppiness from the Laker’s behalf as the Lakers had 19 turnovers on the night compared to the Heat’s 12 turnovers. The offen-
sive efficiency just was not there as well in Game 3 as it only saw the Lakers shoot 43 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point territory, and 76 percent from the free-throw line. All of these were series lows except for free throw percentage. The lack of efficiency on offense down the stretch was pivotal, especially with Miami receiving a huge boost with a 40 point triple-double from Jimmy Butler. This all came without Miami having two of its most important players in Guard Goran Dragic and Forward/Center Bam Adebayo. Adebayo and Dragic are still questionable for Game 4 as they both still battle injuries from Game 1 of the Finals. With their status still in question, it is very essential that the Lakers get back into their zone and the way they play best. Games 1 and 2 saw well-balanced games all around, but Game 3 saw inefficiency with many turnovers. With more balance on both ends of the court in Game 4 and beyond, it could see the Lakers finally winning their 17th NBA Title.

Are Your Mail-in Votes Really Safe? Stephinie Phan Opinion Editor
stephinie.phan4180@my.riohondo.edu
W
Stephinie Phan for El Paisano Media
A simple minimalistic illustration of the mail-in voting system was used to show case the simple ideal of the method or what was suppose to be simple could maybe have some complications we don't see.
ith COVID still around and the debates in full swing for the Presidential Candidacy, 2020 has been impressive. Now a new "safer" method was put in place for this year's voting system. Now you can vote in the comfort of your own home by mail. Padilla told Politico, "the landmark vote-by-mail effort in the nation's most populous state provides arguably the safest option to vote during the Covid-19 pandemic." The idea of mail voting was started by Gavin Newsom, making California the first state to switch over. Plans were also developed for those who wanted to cast votes in person. As convenient as it is for them to vote at home and mail the form off, there are indeed concerns with this. Seeing how not only it would take a couple of business days for the paper to get to your house, but more days after that for it to mail off and be counted and verified. That's more than enough time for someone to take advantage of taking yours and forging your vote. Other concerns would be if it even gets to your place period, some mail would even get lost or lost on the way over. There's also a
possibility of it not coming in on time even if you mail it in the time window of sending it back. How do we even know if they counted your votes at all? There are too many factors and many more not listed. Would you take that risk? I certainly wouldn't. Will Henderson told Bloomberg, "If somebody were to search for information about mail-in voting or how to move forward with that, and they are unfamiliar with the internet structure, and how social media channels work, it would be tough for them to find information about how to do it effectively." The flashy red voting envelope design is also kind of a problem. It's just screaming to be taken or burned. Yes, there is also a barcode on the envelope to be scan to see if it's legit, and that's a point taken. However, there are ways to keep an envelope still nice and neat while the content is messed inside. Facebook and Twitter, as well as even Snapchat and regular texting, give you an option to at least take steps into registering. Scams have been made and find victims, typically elders, to gather personal information like they do best. And having a man like Trump assuring its safe doesn't make it any easier, unfortunately. Does it convince you? I think personally I would stick to in-person ballot votes.
Online Learning, Yay or Nay?
Stephinie Phan Opinion Editor
stephinie.phan4180@my.riohondo.edu
D
uring COVID, the medical safety of the population is essential, its just as important as education. With the world put on pause, knowledge was not one they could afford, and the world took appropriate steps to keep education going through online means. And as ideal as these courses should have been, they have been nothing of the sort ironically, though not very many want to go back to in-person classes. The primary purpose that everyone misses is the interaction of other humans and face-to-face understanding of lessons. Zoom has been an enormous asset to the pandemic, not just to our learning but also to regular business meets and memes. And as cool as a teacher can teach online like this, they can only do so much. There have been teens who can tell you. As a student learning online completely sucks, there are too many factors like contacting for help or having at-home responsibilities. Maybe you don't have a safe place to learn because you have a large family or the area is so small that you can
do nothing else. Some people don't have internet or even a laptop or computer to do work, and some people's families or neighborhoods have situations not safe or ideal for a student to learn or mentally thrive. And even if schools have a supply of computers, calculators, and hot spots, there isn't enough to around. You can even go to Best Buy, Walmart, or even target, and all the 100-500 dollar laptops and chrome books are entirely sold out. Many even still work during the pandemic and try to do class while at work or their parent's whos raising kids and or they're siblings who also go to class, and its a huge mess. Students don't have it easy, and many students just absolutely can't learn online whatsoever. Yahoo News had a recent study showing only 19% of teens that voted wanted in-person schools to come back. That's a pretty small number, and it shows people are still worried about the risk of going to school or want to stay home. Whatever the reason may be, online learning isn't for everyone. Hopefully, this pandemic lifts soon enough to have a drop of normality back in our lives because as ideal as online learning is, its a big nay for me.
