ormer Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts of murdering George Floyd. Last May, Chauvin and three other officers arrested Floyd for paying with an alleged counterfeit bill at a market called Cup Foods. Body cam footage showed officers approaching Floyd’s suv gun drawn and demanding him to leave his vehicle. Floyd was in distress and scared but compliant until he panicked and didn’t want to get in the police cruiser because he was claustrophobic. After Floyd was already forced in the vehicle, Chauvin dragged him out and kneeled on his neck. Two other officers, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane, also kneeled on Floyd as he cried out for his deceased mother and gasped for air. Floyd yelled out, “I can’t breathe” and “you’re killing me” as Chauvin applies more pressure and yells back, “get up, get in the car”. The fourth officer, Tou Thao, keeps the growing crowd away as he ignores their pleas to stop killing him. Among the crowd were children and an off duty EMT who was not allowed to check his pulse. Paramedics had to make Chauvin get off Floyd’s neck after he was on him for nine minutes. He went into cardiac arrest on his way to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon his arrival. sponsor of the bill since October 2019. It was originally introduced to the House in January 2019 then reintroduced on April 1, 2021. Support from the Environmental Defense Fund, World Resources Institute, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Alliance for Market Solutions, and bipartisan support show the popularity of the act. The bill is also endorsed by local cities Brea, Pomona, Bell Gardens, and Redlands. One of the policies of the bill is to issue a carbon fee.

Fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas will start at a low fee then will increase every year. By doing so, energy companies, leading industries, and the American people will start to use cleaner and cheaper options like solar energy. Businesses will then compete to create better energy solutions. These innovations will help the goal of decreasing carbon pollution by at least 30% in five years and get towards net zero by 2050. With the new fee on carbon, the money collected will become a monthly dividend for the American people. This “carbon cash back” money will be given to Americans with no restrictions. The money can be

used to transition to a new form of energy or meet any needs for a family. 95% of low and middle income families are projected to break even or be pushed financially ahead as well. Another way the bill helps the economy is that there will be a carbon border adjustment. To ensure the safety of U.S. manufacturers and jobs, imported goods will pay an adjustment fee and exported goods will have a refund. Ultimately, this bill will help improve the lives of many Americans. As of right now, one in 10 Americans die from poor air quality. retired officer Scott Creighton, said Floyd was agitated and unresponsive to commands when he arrested him. Michelle Moseng was the paramedic who responded to the same arrest as Creighton. He said Floyd’s use of Percocet and his high blood pressure put him at risk of having a stroke. David Fowler, a retired pathologist who often defends police officers, was also a defense witness. He said, “In my opinion, Mr. Floyd had a sudden cardiac arrhythmia ... due to his atherosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease.” He also argued carbon monoxide emissions from the police cruiser’s exhaust pipe may have killed him. Closing arguments were made on April 29. According to the Associated Press, the prosecution insisted Chauvin murdered Floyd. On the other hand, the defense continued to create doubt by saying his health issues and drug addiction were causes of death. At one point, Nelson even suggested aliens may have caused Chauvin to kill Floyd. Chauvin chose to invoke his 5th amendment right not to speed in the trial. The Jury reached a verdict after ten hours of deliberations. Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. According to ABC News, Chauvin faces up to 40 years in prison. The sentencing will be held in approximately eight weeks. Chauvin is being held in solitary confinement in Oak Park Heights Correctional Facility until he is sentenced.

he state of California now has the lowest COVID case rate in the United States as of the third week of April. In the beginning of the year, California had one of the highest rates of COVID cases. On January 1st, the state had an average of 37,957 cases of the coronavirus. On a 7 day average that was about 40,148 of cases on the same day. Many hospitals in Los Angeles county were struggling to help patients. Ambulances were
stuck doing nothing to those that needed help struggling to breath, as they waited for room to open up. The death count in California was through the roof, many morgues were filled. For a while, when the state was recording 40,000 new cases daily they average 500 deaths per day. Although cases are still spiking in other states in the US, California has gone from worst to the first lowest COVID case rate in the country. Numbers have dropped to about 2,300 new cases and 68 deaths daily. California had surpassed Hawaii on Tuesday with the lowest number of cases on average in
the past two weeks. About 1 in every 2,416 people in California has tested positive in the past week. The state of California is still slowly opening up more restaurants, business and schools little by little. Gov. Gavin Newsom has been allowing this to happen by county based on case number levels. Many requirements are still taking action by law for the safety of everyone in the state. The Government and public health agencies are still providing guidelines for every district and businesses as well as restaurants. Chicago Police Officer shot and killed a 13 year old latino boy named Adam Toledo on March 29. An Initial report claims that Toledo was still holding the gun in his hand when he was shot by 34 year old Officer Eric Stillman. Footage released from both a police body cam and surveillance video recently from a nearby building show otherwise. The night of the incident, authorities got an alert from their ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system. They got an alert located in the city’s West Side, predominately a minority neighborhood. Authorities had also received two 911 calls about gunshots that were most likely connected to the ShotSpotter alert. Police showed up to the scene sometime after 2 a.m. Surveillance video from moments before the fatal shooting shows 21 year old Ruben Roman shooting at a passing vehicle with 13 year old Adam beside him. state, indoors and in some cases outdoors. With more schools and business reopening this month as well as theme parks and in person fan experiences for sports games, will see if numbers still go down. Michigan however is adding more cases and deaths in the state due to COVID. Saturday in Michigan added 4,698 cases and 121 deaths that were due to the virus. The numbers had been adding up in Michigan as numbers have risen in an eight week span. Michigan continues to lead the nation in new cases despite having a third of citizens in the state are vaccinated. Among many of the consequences of Michigan's surge is one that has many doctors
concerned. A record number of cases of children being hospitalized due to COVID despite the recording-breaking spike. Michigan Health and Hospital Association has data that show children being hospitalized with symptoms with a high of 70 this week. This was twice as many as were hospitalized during the worst days of the wave that swept the country in November.
both males went to hide in a nearby alley and that's where the officers found them. Officers said both of the males had tried to run away. They were able to tackle and handcuff Roman, then they proceeded to chase after Toledo. Officers were yelling at him to stop and show his hands. You can see that Adam had dropped a handgun and proceeded to raise his hands up. The police officer still shot him in the chest. He called for an ambulance right away and tried CPR. Footage shows Officer Stillman trying to revive the boy, telling him to “stay with him”. He was pronounced dead at the scene. They found Roman with gloves that tested positive for gunshot residue. Police had recovered seven shell casings. They were a match to the handgun Roman was seen using in the surveillance footage. That was the same handgun Toledo was later caught with. Two days later, they contacted
Adam's mother. She received a call that his description had matched a body at the morgue. She identified her son's body on March 31st, two days after his death. Adam was a seventh grader at Gary Elementary School. Lori Lightfoot Chicago's mayor released a statement
with the boy's family and held a press conference. She admitted the video was "incredibly difficult to watch". According to officer Stillman's lawyer Timothy Grace, he had "no other option". Ruben Roman is now facing felony charges that include reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a
weapon by a felon, violating probation and child endangerment. As expected, protests started right away. The Toledo family urges people to "remain peaceful". As of now, Officer Eric Stillman is on administrative duties for 30 days.

ideo games are often depicted as harmful and manipulative. The bad rep comes from the country's problem of mass shootings, depression, and poor mental health. Countries such as Venezuela banned the sales and distribution of video games all together due to a large amount of violence across the country, and others banned games that promote violence and/or nudity. What if that isn’t the case? That there is truly a lighter and productive side to video games. Video games have brought family and friends together for decades. From the late nights of playing Pong, screen watching on 007 GoldenEye while playing split screen, to conquering difficult raids on World of Warcraft with friends online. The world of video games have brought people together for the better. As the world of online gaming continues to expand, many gamers become more competitive. n the 90’s and 00’s, video games were building to the world-encompassing business we know now. Back then things were different. The shift of the console wars had set Sony and Microsoft on a collision course. Technology was advancing fast, and had weird shelf lives. The Internet also started to play a part, giving people a way to take a side. The growth of the games industry during this era was unprecedented, and the media started to show it. The commercials of the 90’s were pulpy and intense. Rob Liefeld was writing comics, Wolverine was wider and buffer than ever, and video games were in your face. Cartoons were punctuated with playful competition between Sony, Nintendo, and Sega. Loud and
quick ads told about the power the player had. You! Yes, you! The power is in your hands! Power was a huge dynamic during this time, echoing in conversations today. But, back then the power of the machine and the witty attitude of the character was the focus of ads. But things were already starting to get weird. Enter, Mental Wealth. The strangest ad I could find from this era. Mental Wealth was a Playstation ad from 1999. It featured a slim young woman with a strangely large head and thick Scottish accent waxing philosophic about using games to be the “human in question” in the human endeavour. All while sitting in a concrete walled basement. But the weird was also in the consoles. As Y2K came and went, the future was upon us. Microsoft took this idea to heart. The original Xbox was all about advancement, in tech and iden-
time. Taking breaks in between school work or life in general is a great escape for a couple of hours. Sure everyone has heard of others rage quitting and throwing controllers at the tv, but there are a plethora of other games that don't raise your blood pressure and cause you to lose it when you get quick scoped on Call of Duty. Games such as; Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Sims, Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Rocket League are some of the best games to tity. The new kids on the block, and first to the next gen, Xbox pushed the power of the system through sci-fi inspired graphics. Hidden in the Matrix green interface was something pretty strange though. Imagine, being 10, up late on a weekend, playing games in the dark. Then, suddenly, after being on the menu for a bit, you hear strange sounds coming from your speakers. Alien voices yakking at you, sending you straight to your parents room. Xbox hid a little easter egg in their menu, if it was on long enough highly synthesized voices would play. Apparently to enhance the “super advanced alien tech” theme of the Xbox. Before Xbox was making kids scared of UFOs, Playstation was making them fear the abyss. The original Playstation had a start up so iconic and frightening that it’s still talked about today. But the error screen had something even creepier. The start up was loud and dramatic, but the error screen music was terrifying. Threatening strings accompanied a red screen, with a song titled fearful harmony. I was born in 99’, so much
play and pass time. Games are also used for educational purposes. They get kids engaged in their academics while having fun. Video games help with hand eye coordination, and with games like Minecraft, it expands their imagination while figuring out what materials they need to scour for to build their creation. Sure video games get a bad rep because people don't see the other side of it. They’d rather hear and see what the media
tells them. Look at the majority of people. A new study finds that four out of five American households own a device used to play video games, and more than 150 million Americans play video games, according to new research by the Entertainment Soft ware Association (ESA). Video games are becoming a household item in this day and age, and to say it causes violence should be looked at on a case by case basis.

The strange effect in Mental Wealth was achieved using 90's era CGI and facial mapping creating the wide head look. of the really weird stuff I didn't see first hand. But I still feel super attached to it. Once I got online, the web was inundated with wild stories of Tails Dolls coming to life, in-game radios predicting the future, and supposed subliminals. But the stuff that was proven, that was real, was stuff I was somewhat related with. I grew up with PS2, and
played hours of original Playstation games. I had an Xbox, and got to see all the weird PS3 commercials. Nostalgia is a strange thing, and like Stranger Things showed us, we can feel it for times that weren’t ours. I wonder now, if the weirdness of this era will ever reach the forefront of pop culture like the 80’s did.

NBA Draft Prospect Terrence Clarke, 19, Dies in Car Crash in Los Angeles Area ENRIQUE MEDINA Broadcast Director

errence Clarke, beloved Freshman guard from the Kentucky Wildcats this past season, died in a car crash Thursday in the Los Angeles Area. Clarke was only 19 years old. Clarke was a star freshman at Kentucky this past year averaging 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and shot 42.1% from the field in 28.0 minutes per game. Clarke only played seven games to start the year and was injured most of the rest of the season, but was a very highly touted prospect. This past Thursday afternoon, Clarke was arriving home from a workout when the accident happened which ultimately led to his death. Clarke was driving by himself on Winnetka Avenue in Northridge at around 2:10 PT. Surveillance video shows that Clarke was driving at a very high speed when he collided with a car attempting to make a left turn, and then hit a street light pole and ultimately hit a block wall in the process. This was confirmed by Los Angeles
Police Department Sergeant John Matassa. According to Matassa, Clarke was also not wearing his seatbelt when the accident happened. Clarke was taken to Northridge Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Clarke was a Boston area native where he played at Brewster Academy (New Hampshire area) and was a five star prospect at the Academy. Clarke was known as a very prolific scorer, and a very athletic shooting guard who had lots of potential. “He was a great kid, extremely talented. Just the person he was, he was always smiling,” said Boston Celtic forward Jayson Tatum when asked about Clarke and his memories of him. Clarke in fact was set to go into the NBA, as he declared himself for this year’s upcoming NBA Draft. Clarke was seen as potentially lottery pick at highest during the season and was ranked around mid to late first round or early second round. Clarke was one of the most highly touted players to come out of Massachusetts and the
Boston area in the past decade. After the news of his death, University of Kentucky head coach, John Calipari released a statement saying, “I am absolutely gutted and sick tonight. A young person who we all love has just lost his life too soon.” “Terrence Clarke was a beautiful kid, someone who owned the room with his personality, smile and joy.” Calipari set his way to Los Angeles to go be with his mother and the rest of Clarke’s family after the tragic news. On Friday, Clarke’s former Kentucky teammates held a vigil in remembrance of Clarke and on Saturday, Clarke’s former AAU team held a touching tribute for Clarke. Clarke’s former AAU team held a tribute, holding a moment of silence before the game, where all players held up Clarke’s number, 5, which he wore at Kentucky. Clarke’s remembrance as a highly loved Boston native, basketball player, and athlete lives on, as the city and basketball players around the nation mourn the death of Terrence Clarke.

Stephen Curry in MVP Form JUSTIN GOMEZ Reporter

Stephen Curry has been able to carry this Warriors team in the regular season so far, but will he be able to do this in the playoffs.
t has been 5 years since Stephen Curry has won the most valuable player award. When he won that award 5 years ago, he became the first player to win by unanimous selection. As a matter of fact that was also the second MVP award earned. Most people know how good Stephen Curry was during those two years. In 2015 he led the Golden State Warriors to their first championship since 1975. They took down Lebron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers at the time. The following year Curry led the Warriors to having the best regular season record after finishing 73-9. Unfortunately this was the year the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead to Lebron and the Cavaliers in the finals. Although Curry was defeated, it was clear that he wasn’t done yet. We all know Stephen Curry doesn’t have the same team this year then the teams he has had in the past. With Klay Thompson still out and now their rookie James Weisman out, all he has left really are
Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins. These two players are just out of their prime and aren’t able to help Curry out a lot when it comes to big games. This is why Curry might be MVP this year. Even though his team is the 9th seed with an even 29-29 record, Curry has been able to carry this team through a lot of these tough teams. Since Curry has come back from injury, he and the Warriors have been able to beat teams as of late like the Bucks, the Nuggets and the 76ers. These are all top teams in their conference and Curry was able to put up incredible numbers and lead the Warriors to victory in those games. Stephen Curry has broken many records in his career and as of late he has added some to that list. Just this week he broke Kobe Bryant’s record for most consecutive 30 point games by a player that is 33 years old or older. This is a big achievement for him as he is passing arguably the goat of the NBA. Next he has made 72 threes over his last 10 games, which is the most in NBA history. Curry is not shy about shoot-
ing the ball, that's for sure. As of lately, he just hasn’t been missing a whole lot. He is also on a stretch of 10 plus threes in consecutive games. He has 6 this season and 21 total in his career. The next closest to him is his splash brother Klay Thompson with only 5. Lastly, Curry is the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to average 40 points per game on 50% shooting through 10 games in a month. Although Curry has all this under his belt, he shows no sign of slowing down. Stephen Curry has proven a lot of haters wrong this year and he is a strong candidate for MVP. Although this may be true, there are a lot of players that have also been in MVP form. For example, Nikola Jokic from the Denver Nuggets recently put up 47 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists in a game against the Grizzlies. Another player that has had a hell of a year so far is Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. He is averaging 30 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists for his team. Therefore MVP isn’t a sure thing for Stephen Curry but one thing is for sure, he is a top candidate for this award.

Also as a result of the tremendous outrage of the fans all over the world, chairmans of some of the clubs that have
tried to join the ESL have resigned due to the backlash they were receiving. Ed Woodward, former chairman of Manchester United stepped down from his position only a few hours after
Manchester United officially stepped away from the idea of the Super League. Andrea Agneli, current chairman of Juventus has also stepped down from his position in the Uefa committee,
as well as Florentino Perez. The idea of the Super League has been made very clear for clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid who will continue to make this idea of a Super League possible due to the financial situation they are currently in. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are 1 billion dollars in debt, making this super league extremely important for them. Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid and the ESL stated that all clubs that participate in the ESL will receive roughly around 300 million euros annually just for participating in the ESL. This will help massively with the financial situation all the clubs in Europe are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, the clubs from the English Premier League are demanding a 50 plus 1 rule in their clubs structure. The 50 plus 1 rule means that fans will have majority control of the clubs with a voting system, while chairmans and presidents of a club can only propose an idea but cannot go through without a majority decision of the fans. The 50 plus 1 rule is used by German clubs and has worked well over the last couple decades. This rule will prevent owners from making huge decisions such as trying to join the ESL. As of time of writing, the ESL is suspended, however, this can all change in the next few days.
