he people of the United States have had enough of seeing officials treating African Americans violently every year. Although the coronavirus resumes, protesters want racism to end after what happened to George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died while being detained by a Minneapolis police officer on May 25. Millions of individuals who saw the video of Floyd being treated badly didn’t cross their arms and began to take action by protesting. After the brutal deaths of African Americans by police officers, with victims such as Ahmaud Arbery, Michael Brown, Terence Crutcher, and Eric Garner, individuals got affected by watching police pressing Floyd’s neck and ended up voicing their thoughts. Protesters around the U.S. started to face the police in the middle of the streets trying to express their thoughts on what happened. Crowds have the right to to express their opinions because they are protected by the First Amendment which is freedom of speech. They held banners and signs that read “Black Lives Matter,” “I Can’t Breath,” and “Justice for George Floyd.” If the situation gets worse then the National Guard comes in and deals with protesters that are committing destruction, while police use tear gas to
send protesters in other directions. There are states in the U.S. that protest peacefully while some protest violently. Some protests are hostile and violent with some individuals tending to attack officials while others destroy businesses, police cars and burn items. In Minneapolis, Minnesota where the incident happened with Floyd, protesters began to break windows, loot shops, and harm officials. Hundreds of people were arrested during the protest for damaging the city. Another state that is full of protesters is New York. In recent days, thousands of individuals gathered at sites across the city for demonstrations, marches and vigils that continued to be peaceful. However, because New York has the most cases of coronavirus in the U.S., the state has imposed a day-by-day curfew, but the protestors ignored the curfew and hundreds got arrested. Even though there are hostile protests, there are peaceful protests. In Whittier, California, crowds gathered in front of the Whittier Police Department. There were a lot of people protesting, but there was no damage to any properties. Crowds also demanded Whittier officials take a knee to show solidarity. Fortunately, there were no injuries and no people arrested.
