Rio’s Club Extravaganza

Whether it was food, entertainment, or information; Rio’s Club Rush had something for everybody.

Rio Hondo held its Club Rush event this past Tuesday and Wednesday, providing clubs the chance to get new
members on board. It was not all business, though. Power 106 stopped by both days, from 11 am to 2 pm, with DJ Vital to add a soundtrack to Club Rush. Tents filled Rio’s lower quad on Tuesday and
Wednesday as the clubs set up their booths. Every program, from the French Club to Alpha Gamma Sigma, had representatives out. Clubs focused on recruiting new members on Tuesday, providing information and answer-
ing questions for interested students. Wednesday was a bit more festive. Clubs were able to sell items in an effort to raise money for their programs. Hot Cheetos with cheese,
nachos, pizza, lemonade; there were plenty of goods available for purchase at Club Rush on Wednesday. There was also a photo booth and a jumper with a slide to add some fun to the event. There was something for everyone!
Justin Valero Aims to Make a Difference

He also wants more funding for vocational schools and community colleges. “More-and-more we’re having what are known as ‘non-traditional students, where students are typically older than 23, 25, part-time… but now we’re getting kind of a combination of that, and in larger numbers,” Valero explained. “So this idea of the ‘non-traditional students’ is actually pretty conventional, it’s becoming the norm. I think we’re going to have to stop saying ‘non-traditional students’ soon because it will

Justin Valero held a meet-and-greet in Whittier on Saturday as part of his campaign to become California’s 57th District Assembly representtive. El Paisano was luckily able to sit down for a one-on-one chat with Valero. The 27-year-old Valero has lived in the 57th District his entire life, residing in Whittier. He is now aiming to provide better opportunities for the people of Whittier and the surrounding cities. One of Valero’s goals is to get state officials to recognize that the education vocational schools and community
