ABOUT THE ROLE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - PUBLIC WORKS The Executive Director of the El Paso County Department of Public Works directs all divisions of the Department of Public Works, to include Highway, Fleet, Engineering, Resource Management, Customer Service, and Safety.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated managerial and administrative leadership experience; ten (10) years of experience preferred. Minimum five (5) years of public works, construction, project management, or related experience. Must have extensive knowledge obtaining Federal Grants related to Public Improvements and coordination with Local, State, and Federal agencies. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in public works, to include construction, maintenance programs, emergency services, and security operations. Extensive knowledge of research methods and techniques utilized to assemble, organize, and present statistical, financial, or factual information derived from a variety of sources. Skilled in cultural change management principles. Skill in recognizing, investigating, and analyzing a variety of financial, operational, and administrative problems, developing alternatives and appropriate solutions. Thorough knowledge of modern business methods, procedures, and trends, service area growth, and resource planning. Thorough knowledge of the laws, regulations, and other requirements governing public jurisdictions. Ability to direct, organize, and coordinate the activities of others. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Elected Officials, County Administration, County Department Directors, community stakeholders, and the public. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above. Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.

Salary: $145,000 - $158,000 annually Vacation: 120 Hours per year, accumulated bi-weekly Personal Time: 24 hours, renews each year Holidays: 11 paid holidays each year Sick Leave: 96 hours per year, accumulated bi-weekly Retirement: El Paso County offers a competitive government retirement plan.
