ICCR Foundation Day The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India’s first Education Minister. Its objectives are to actively participate in the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes pertaining to India’s external cultural relations, to foster and strengthen cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries; to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and people; and to develop relations with nations. The ICCR Foundation Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 9th April at the Embassy of India in Mexico. On this occasion, Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi inaugurated an exhibition “India- Una Mirada”, a collection of beautiful photographs by Pablo Dávila at the Gurudev Tagore Indian Cultural Centre.

The celebrations also included dance and musical performances as well as a reception hosted by the Ambassador. The alumni of ICCR scholarships shared their experiences of studying in India. Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi also unveiled the GTICC brochure related to various activities and released a promotional video of GTICC.

Celebrating 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
Shri Ram Sutar The Government of India is commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in the year 2019. Several activities have been planned and held to mark this occasion. Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi and Mayor of Guanajuato unveiled a bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi sculpted by Padma Bhushan awardee Shri Ram Sutar in Guanajuato- a UNESCO World Heritage city in Mexico on 26th April, 2019. The donation of this bust was announced by Ambassador Pardeshi during Cervantino Festival in October 2018 in which India participated as the Guest of Honour Country. This will remain as a permanent memory of India’s participation in Cervantino 2018. They also inaugurated a photo exhibition on the life of Mahatma Gandhi at the House of Culture which is open up to 30 May.

Ambassador met the Minister of Agriculture of Mexico Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi and Dr. Ramesh Chand, member of Niti Aayog, India met the Minister of Agriculture of Mexico to discuss opportunities for enhancing agriculture co-operation between the two countries. India-Mexico agriculture co-operation goes back to 1960s when Mexico was instrumental in India’s Green Revolution.

Plastimagen 2019 Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi visited India Pavilion where 14 companies from the plastics sector of India participated in Mexico's biggest plastics expo - Plastimagen - under the banner of Plexconcil (Plastics Exports Promotion Council) from 2-5 April, 2019. India exported plastics goods worth 98 million USD to Mexico in 2017-2018
FAMEX 2019 The Embassy of India participated in the biggest aerospace fair of Mexico, FAMEX 2019, from 24 to 27th April. The Embassy setup a stall to promote Make in India, particularly the opportunities in the Defence Manufacturing sector. FAMEX was inaugurated by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Baisakhi 2019 The Embassy of India celebrated Baisakhi on 14th April. The evening started by rendition of Kirtan. Ambassador Muktesh Pardeshi addressed the audience followed by presentation of Bhangra dances and Gatka -martial arts from Punjab. The Indian community in Mexico welcomed this Spring with a spirit of brotherhood and harmony.

La Compañía Sattriya Dance de Prerona Bhuyan & Madhusmita Bora se presentaron en la Embajada El miércoles 10 de abril se presentó en el auditorio de la India In Mexico (Embassy of India, Mexico City) la compañía Sattriya Dance de Prerona Bhuyan y Madhusmita Bora. El espectáculo dancístico fue ovacionado con gratitud por la audiencia.
Kolkata hosts Mexico’s world heritage A photo-exhibition of images portraying the UNESCO World Heritage sites and practices of Mexico was opened at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata. “Mexico in the World Heritage”, a collection of 44 photographs by Mexican photographer Adalberto Ríos Szalay is organized by the Embassy of Mexico in India, in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. Commenting on the significance of showcasing this unique exhibition, Mr. Santiago Ruy reiterated the intent of Mexico to share its cultural wealth with the rest of the world, “We want to share with our friends in India, this immense Mexican cultural and historical wealth, especially with those who do not have the opportunity to see it. It is a cultural exhibition, as well as a touristic exhibition”. With an astounding diversity of natural and cultural heritage, as of 2018 Mexico is home to 35 World Heritage Sites considered by UNESCO to be of outstanding value to humanity. Mexico has the largest number of heritage sites in the American continent, and is ranked 7th in the world, just after India which has 37 sites listed.

Sinaloa promueve comercialización del maíz y garbanzo a la India y Sudáfrica
El Gobierno del Estado de Sinaloa promueve la comercialización de granos hacia India y Sudráfica. El secretario de Agricultura y Ganadería del Estado, Manuel Tarriba, se reunió con los embajadores de ambas naciones, a quienes les ofreció el maíz y garbanzo producido en Sinaloa. La primera reunión de trabajo se realizó en la embajada de la India en México, donde fueron atendidos por el embajador Muktesh K. Pardeshi y su cuerpo diplomático. “Derivado del interés en la importación de productos agrícolas por parte de la India –dijo el secretario Tarriba- la Secretaría de Agricultura y Ganadería tuvo un acercamiento con su Embajada, con la finalidad de crear lazos comerciales para la exportación de maíz y garbanzo, cultivos que requieren de un protocolo por parte de ambos gobiernos federales, con quienes se estará trabajando de cerca para su firma con el objetivo de que Sinaloa sea proveedor permanente de estos granos”. El crecimiento de comercio bilateral entre India y México ha incrementado un 74 por ciento en los últimos tres años, y la India busca diversificar la importación de productos agrícolas, por ejemplo, el aguacate cuya demanda va en crecimiento debido a las nuevas preferencias de alimentación.
Como dato referencial, se destacó que en 2016, aproximadamente el 75% de las exportaciones de maíz de Sinaloa tuvieron como destino Sudáfrica, por lo que se busca contar con importadores validados por parte de su Embajada para impulsar su comercialización a ese destino de nueva cuenta. Además, se revisó el tema de intercambio de técnicos especializados en tecnología agrícola, para una probable misión de cooperación entre ambas regiones. Con estas acciones de promoción, dijo el secretario Tarriba Urtuzuástegui, el Gobierno de Quirino Ordaz Coppel, a través de la Secretaría de Agricultura y Ganadería, promueve los productos del campo sinaloense con la finalidad de diversificar sus mercados tradicionales y con ello abrir nuevas expectativas para garantizar mejores precios.
Tarriba Urtuzuástegui agregó que la representación diplomática de la India manifestó su disposición para facilitar la organización de misiones comerciales, así como de apoyar a Sinaloa para participar en la próxima feria agroalimentaria Indus Food, que se realizará en enero de 2020, así como en abrir la puerta para becas universitarias y estancias cortas para profesionales, lo que representa una importante oportunidad de intercambio académico, comercial e industrial para nuestro estado. Derivado del decremento publicado en la producción de maíz blanco por parte de Sudáfrica en esta temporada, se detectó la oportunidad de reforzar los lazos comerciales por parte de Sinaloa con la finalidad de una posible exportación, razón por la cual se sostuvo una entrevista con el primer secretario de la Embajada de Sudáfrica, Adriaan du Pisanie. India seeks Mexican crude to meet its growing energy needs Mexico has emerged as the most important supplier of crude oil for India. In fact, India is the third biggest market of Mexican crude oil and there is a great potential for it to grow further. Its export to India in this commodity has always been rising however in terms of value it shows fluctuation because of international prices. Mexico is one of the top oil producers in the with its production at 110 mt. According to the Indian ambassador to Mexcio, Mukhtesh Pardeshi, “Mexico has become a reliable partner in our energy security. The country has exported $ 3.73 billion of crude oil to India with an increase of 36% over the previous year. In 2010, Mexico exported 8.36 million barrels, which rose continuously to 50.89 million barrels in 2017 to India.” “Unfortunately, the Mexican export basket is not very diversified and 75% of the basket is occupied by crude oil,” he adds. Sources have also confirmed to Financial Express Online that with the political uncertainty continuing in Venezuela and Indian companies shutting down its crude imports from that country, to meet its growing energy needs, India has started looking at expanding its imports from other countries in the South American region. The Indian private companies have started seeking other markets for buying crude. According to diplomatic sources after the India-Mexico bilateral trade touch an all time high of $10 billion for the first time ever, both sides are keen on expanding their relations in the energy sector as well as other important minerals and metals. Earlier this year, at the Petrotech 2019, Rocio Nahle Garcia, Minister of Energy, Mexico while highlighting the vision of her government towards an affordable energy, said that there are plans to bring in reforms which would privatize energy production and ensure clean energy. Garcia had also met with her Indian counterpart Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan and the two sides had discussed the possibility of the Indian companies participating various energy related projects in that country. Reportedly there has been decline in production at the state owned oil company Pemex in Mexico, with new reforms in place Indian companies are expected to participate in production, exploration and extraction.

Develan busto de Mahatma Gandhi en Jardín Reforma de Guanajuato capital – Zona Franca
Descubren busto de Gandhi en la capital Guanajuato.- Autoridades estatales, municipales y de la Embajada de la India en México, develaron el busto del pacifista Mahatma Gandhi en el Jardín Reforma como un símbolo de amistad entre Guanajuato y el gobierno de la India. La directora del Instituto Estatal de Cultura, Adriana Camarena, dijo que la paz es una de las necesidades más sentidas del país y del estado, por lo que se requiere el trabajo de todos para lograr una cultura de la paz. Por su parte, el embajador de India en México, Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi, se dijo agradecido porque la ciudad aceptó tener en una de sus plazas parte del legado que dejó Gandhi en el mundo.

Pardeshi, dijo que se entregaba el busto del padre de la independencia de su país, como un mensaje de paz y armonía El presidente municipal Alejandro Navarro Saldaña, señaló que significa mucho la figura de Gandhi en todo el mundo, quien demostró que se puede llegar a la paz sin violencia. La Embajada de la India en México obsequió el busto, símbolo de las coincidencias que enlazan a la Capital Cervantina de América con la patria de Gandhi, cuyo natalicio se conmemora en octubre próximo, a 150 años de distancia. “En este 2019 celebramos los 150 años del natalicio de Mahatma Gandhi. El busto, colocado en este jardín de la Reforma, representa la amistad de México con la India y es fruto de la amabilidad del señor Embajador de la India”, expresó el Presidente Municipal, acompañado por integrantes del Honorable Ayuntamiento y del cuerpo diplomático visitante. El embajador de la India en México, Muktesh K. Pardeshi, agradeció la calidez del Gobierno capitalino, en un contexto de concordia y reciprocidad que exaltó la participación de
aquel país surasiático como invitado de honor en la edición 2018 del Festival Internacional Cervantino. “Me encuentro muy agradecido con el pueblo de Guanajuato por conmemorar el natalicio de Gandhi y recordarlo como un mensajero de paz, armonía y hermandad”, dijo el diplomático en torno al pensador que falleció asesinado el 30 de enero de 1948. El 20 de octubre de 2018, durante una visita al Palacio Municipal de Guanajuato, el embajador Pardeshi anunció la donación del busto, como símbolo de la relación India-Guanajuato. Posterior a la develación del busto, el alcalde Navarro inauguró la exposición fotográfica que muestra los momentos cumbre de la cruzada de Gandhi por la paz, la cual permanecerá montada en la Casa de la Cultura durante todo un mes.
