Who am I

Page 1

Who am I? Why was I born? What do I do with my life? When will I understand the meaning of life? How can I become the person God created me to be?

Who is God? Why did God make me? What plan does God have for my life? When will God’s revelation pierce my heart? How will God bring clarity to my purpose in life?

Quickly the Basics. • God created human beings for His pleasure – to receive His love and return that love to Him; and to love other humans with that same love. • No other creature in the universe has this capacity. • God created earth for man. • God gave Adam & Eve their identity (in His image) to have dominion over the earth (Gen 1:2628) • Satan stole Adam & Eve’s identity by deceit. o What do I believe about the nature and character of God? o Do I desire truth over a lie? o Do I desire my own way over His way? o Will I allow anyone or anything have more influence in my life than God? 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself]. Each human being is unique (DNA, fingerprints, etc.) God enjoys diversity. God has given us free will. God is sovereign. God created all things – including Satan. God knew that Adam & Eve would not overcome the serpent in the garden. God is working His likeness (Christ) in us through our lives. God has three eternal objectives for humans: 1. children for the Father 2. bride for the Son 3. temple for the Holy Spirit

We cannot know the answer to any question about ourselves apart from the knowledge of God.

Hosea 4:1 (ESV) 1 Hear the word of the LORD, O children of Israel, for the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land; Hosea 4:6 (ESV) 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 6:6 (ESV) 6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. Proverbs 2:5 (ESV) 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. Romans 11:33 (ESV) 33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! 1 Corinthians 15:34 (ESV) 34 Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. 2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV) 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, Colossians 1:10 (ESV) 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. You are royalty 1 Pe 2:910 (ESV) 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 John 3:23 (ESV)

2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV) 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Gal 3:234:7 (ESV) 23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. 24 So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. 4:1 I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, 2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. 3 In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

The kingdom of God is a realm, a lifestyle, sovereignly ruled by the foundational power of God, through which God’s ruler/dominion is brought forth on earth. Only a pure heart can hear the secrets of God’s kingdom. Psalm 24:34 (ESV) 3 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. Matthew 5:8 (ESV) 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

How do I purfiy my heart? Proverbs 20:9 (ESV) 9 Who can say, “I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin”? Psalm 66:18 (ESV) 18 If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. Psalm 51:10 (ESV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Acts 15:89 (ESV) 8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, 9 and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. Hebrews 10:22 (ESV) 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Psalm 19:14 (ESV) 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 119:11 (ESV) 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
