The inspiration continues… University of Leicester
Lord Attenborough Maiden Speech to the House of Lords, 1994
Attenborough Arts Centre’s work is inspired by Richard Attenborough, a world leading filmmaker, acclaimed actor, philanthropist and lifelong patron of the arts. Lord Attenborough was an inspirational talent and pioneering thinker, our founding
patron and a hands-on man who helped establish our arts centre. Handing the patronage to his son Michael, we continue to follow Richard’s vision and his legacy striving to include everyone in great art, culture and learning.

Concerto
Phizzical Productions
Work in progress Friday 2 September 7pm at The Y Theatre £5, Duration 40 minutes
Mr and Mrs Khan
A performance by Michael Pinchbeck inspired by the composition of ‘Piano Concerto for the left hand’ by Maurice Ravel and its commission by Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right arm fighting in World War One. Concerto explores how Ravel was lost in a forest for 10 days outside Verdun in 1914, inspiring him to write his most celebrated works. The audience become the orchestra. A conductor becomes an assassin. A pianist plays a piece of music that tells a story about disability, music, war and 100 years of history.
Naqid and Mubina Khan face the everyday challenges of work and endless family gatherings with smiles on their faces and a takeaway in their bellies. Their cheery marital banter is interrupted when Mubina’s younger sister Aida moves into their cramped home. Profoundly deaf and with a new lease on life, Aida disturbs the settled routine of the household with an awakened desire for the life her sister has.
