Joey Wölffer, Marc Wölffer & Rachel Zoe Host an Intimate Dinner to Celebrate Wölffer Estate’s Summer in a Bottle Rosé

THE SCENE & The Seen

It’s officially peak season in the Hamptons! Here's your guide to the who’s who and where they’re having their summer fun. PRESENTED BY

'People used to make fun of Christian Wölffer for planting wine on Long Island," mentioned Joey Wölffer as she raised a glass to the brand's Summer in a Bottle wine. Now Joey and her brother Max Wölffer have turned rosé into a lifestyle. To celebrate the pink wine, the siblings hosted an intimate al fresco dinner with family friends on June 25, including fashionista Rachel Zoe, Karolina Kurkova, Athena Calderone, Aweng Chuol, Julia von Boehm, and more, on the lush vineyard estate. Guests toasted the night away as the sun set over the 175 acres of grapes. PHOTOGRAPHS BY NEIL RASMUS FOR BFA

rada is joining an impressive line-up of luxe labels heading out East this summer — and it’s bringing with it a special collection to celebrate. The new permanent store will feature selections from the women’s and men's ready-to-wear collections, plus leather goods, footwear, and accessories. To kick things off, there will also be a temporary installation featuring a seasonal line with pieces that "evoke a touch of energy and the atmosphere of summer.” (Who can resist that?) The 1,600-square-foot space is in keeping with the airy, bright layout of many Hamptons boutiques thanks to its large windows offering lots of natural light. The installation features an ivory-and-green striped carpet with walls in the same graphic print. There are also alternating stripes in contrasting colors on surfaces inside, and the brand's iconic triangle logo has been reinterpreted through as a neon sign. To get your hands on the new seasonal collection, stop by 2 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, New York 11937.

BY CASEY BRENNAN

ummer is all about relaxing and recharging, and stressedout city dwellers will get the ultimate experience at the Dune Deck Beach Club this season, which has partnered with The Well, NYC’s premier health and wellness destination. Located on 5.7 acres of beachfront land in Westhampton — just an 80-minute drive from Manhattan and 10 minutes from Francis S. Gabreski Airport – the Dune Deck Beach Club offers an unmatched setting for enjoying the old-world charm of the Hamptons along with some world-class pampering. The Dune Deck Beach Club was redeveloped by serial entrepreneur Mike Meldman, CEO of Discovery Land Project and co-founder of Casamigos Tequila (along George Clooney and Rande Gerber). Meldman’s goal with the Dune Deck Beach Club — where memberships reportedly cost $350,000 — was to create a private members-only beach club with top amenities and high-end oceanfront lodging options (there are 33 furnished suites available, decorated in tasteful, muted tones that complement the beachy vibe). “I believe the mark of a successful club is a sense of community, and that’s very apparent at the Dune Deck,” says Meldman. “If other members turn into friends which turn into family, that’s a huge success. I know that that sense is something we have at all of our clubs. Even staff members tend to become close friends and chosen family for our members.” The seasonal offerings from The Well include Swedish Massage, Lymph Drainage, Deep Tissue Massage, Cupping and Salt Stone Bath, IV Vitamin drips, and Collagen Boost

along with a menu of Dr. Barbara Sturm signature facials. Members can also take movement and fitness classes including barre and Pilates, yoga, HIIT, and beach boot camp along with personal coaching and nutrition guidance. Guests can also explore a rotating lineup of “Visiting Masters” in both Eastern and Western healing practices and a retail store features an assortment of “clean” products. The Club’s “Outdoor Pursuits” program features a variety of toys and games along with guided surfing, kayaking, kiteboarding, wakeboarding, paddle-boarding, skimboarding, boogie boarding, sailing, tubing, jet skiing, and fishing, as well as hiking, electric beach biking, water bikes, and wine tasting; for Summer 2022, a brand-new Sports Court has been added, with three pickleball courts and a basketball net. There is certainly no shortage of activities to keep busy and promote an active lifestyle.

If lounging is more your thing, there is a spacious pool deck lined with luxurious cabanas. The beach features comfortable chairs and striped umbrellas for a day in the sand. There is also a selection of fine dining options from top chefs, and a staff that is available to cater to the needs of discerning members. No detail is overlooked. What the Dune Deck offers affluent members is a sense of playfulness and wellbeing, and Meldman — whose Discovery Land Company boasts a portfolio of 27 domestic and international properties around the world, including Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club in the Bahamas, Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, Silo Ridge Field Club in upstate New York, and El Dorado Golf & Beach Club in Los Cabos— has certainly delivered. “People are craving this type of lifestyle,” he says. “Simplicity and security. People truly feel safe, it’s like a haven.” dunedeckclub.com

ho's ready for a Valentino girl summer? After testing the waters with a pop-up last summer at The Maidstone in East Hampton, the luxury Italian label is heading back East – and this time, planting permanent roots at a new two-story boutique on Main Street in East Hampton. Designed to transport the Hamptons set into the world of Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli, the store – adorned with mid-century rattan furniture, antique Tuareg rugs, and bamboo shades that beautifully fill the 2,990-square-foot space – has a beachy flair balanced with a healthy helping of la dolce vita. In true Piccioli style, the open concept and relaxed environment filled with greenery makes you feel at home — that is, if your home were filled with racks of stunning garments. Those who stop by will be able to browse new summer

arrivals alongside coveted capsules, including Valentino Escape 2022, inspired by prints from Round Rain (1966), Valentino Waves multicolor (1970), and the Giraffa re-edition (1966) collections. In the heart of the village and fewer than two miles from the ocean, the location is oh-soperfect for a quick drop-in to grab last-minute fashion necessities, including kaftans, swimwear, flowy dresses, and kimonos for the ladies, as well as Bermuda shorts, shirts, sweatshirts, and T-shirts in light fabrics for the fellas. TAKING ON A CHALLENGING ROLE IN A BRAND NEW GENRE, THE ACTRESS IS TAKING HOLLYWOOD BY STORM. BY JACLYN ROTH

A

SUMMER 2022

s soon as Siena Agudong jumps on our Zoom call, she’s upbeat, cheery, a ray of sunshine, which is why her recent role in Resident Evil was such a change of pace for her. The actress was put to the test, as the eight-episode drama series inspired by the hugely popular horror franchise featured multiple timelines and creepy creatures — all a far cry from any of her previous projects. Despite the challenges she faced, Agudong was excited to tackle the role of Billie Wesker, a 14-year-old who moves to New Raccoon City with her sister Jade. The Netflix live-action series also features four other young actresses . “It was super-cool; we had a wide range of actors from all over the world. It was so much fun getting to know each other,” the 17-year-old tells GRAZIA Gazette: Hamptons. “I didn’t know anything about the franchise at the time, but I did my research and I knew it was huge, but I was so nervous,” she says of trying out for the role. “I auditioned in February 2020, but I didn’t hear back until October. By November, they officially booked me.” The Hawaii native originally auditioned for Jade but was thankful that Billie landed in her lap, as she believes she relates to her more. “Jade is sharp and quickwitted; she is not trying to keep the peace, she is trying to entertain herself by doing the exact opposite all of the time, whereas Billie is constantly trying to keep the peace. She is very anxiety-ridden, constantly suppressing her emotions because she doesn’t want to be the trouble child,” Agudong explains. Despite nabbing the role, the rising star was “very nervous for my mental health” when prepping to play the character. “Billie goes through a lot and every day is intense and emotional, but that is something as an actor that I have always wanted to learn and that is also what drew me to this project,” she notes. “All I want to do as an actor is grow. I would not be satisfied if I didn’t learn how to do it right. It excited me that I was able to put my heart and soul into each scene and not feel like it was taking something out of me.” When not on set, Agudong spent time working out and allowing herself to be in touch with her emotions in order to decompress. “I would go to the beach or go in the water, and I became very self-aware, which I think helped me,” she shares. “I know I still have so much more to learn, but what I was able to gain from my time on Resident Evil excites me because it feels like, OK, there is movement, I am learning about myself.” Agudong has now watched all of the episodes, though she admits having to close her eyes due to the content more than once. She’s still amazed that audiences will soon get to see her hard work on the small screen. “I feel so grateful. I can’t believe that I even got the audition in the first place, because this is something that I have always dreamed of playing,” she says. Since performing in plays at the age of six, the brunette beauty always knew acting was in the cards. Fortunately, her parents were supportive and took her to Los Angeles, where she later met with her now manager and agents. The rest, as they say, is history. “I love feeling something, and I love playing characters. I love putting myself in these situations that I might not experience in my personal life and feeling what that feels like. I have always been into storytelling,” she explains. Though she starred in Alex & Me on video and Star Falls for Nickelodeon, her first big break came in 2019 when No Good Nick debuted on Netflix. Agudong starred alongside seasoned actors such as Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin, but “everyone made it feel like I belonged there, which I think as a 14-year-old actor who had never had a show on Netflix, was everything I needed,” she gushes. “It was unconditional love on that set, and they let me grow and play around with the character and everyone was so excited to be there.” Agudong got great advice from both Joan Hart and Astin, as they knew all too well what it was like to grow up in Hollywood. Now, she gets to be a role model for others — something she is still getting used to. “It is a lot of pressure, but I remind myself the only job I have is to be real, and I think that is enough,” she declares, adding that when she goes home to Hawaii, people constantly ask her advice on how to get into the industry. “That in itself is huge for me because I want people to know how to follow their dreams,” she adds. “I am still learning, and I hope I can inspire the community back home. I feel very blessed because I get to represent my community that I feel so proud to be a part of.” In addition to getting involved with Coral Gardeners, an organization focused on preserving our oceans, her main focus is attending NYU in the fall. “I am going in undeclared, but I am planning to major in business and minor in screenwriting. I still want to continue my acting career. I don’t want to lose that, but I am hoping I can make both work,” she says. “I am hoping not to graduate in 10 years!” Now that she has different genres under her belt, she’s eager to expand her horizons even further — and her dream role would be to star alongside Tom Hanks. “He’s brilliant, so that would be a huge blessing,” she says. “I have a few projects in the works, but my main goal is to grow as an actor, and I feel like in order to do that, I want to experience it all.”

ALEXIS REN ENTERS THE NEXT PHASE OF HER CAREER WITH A WHOLE NEW PERSPECTIVE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

SUMMER 2022

Y

ou may know Alexis Ren as a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie, or from her fourth-place stint on Dancing with the Stars. You may even be one of her 16.5 million followers on Instagram. What you may not know about the social media star is that she’s so much more. Ren is transitioning her career from model to budding actress and officially retiring the title of “influencer” – and she couldn’t be more inspired. Despite making it her “mission to do anything but acting” early on in her career, the 25-year-old (who got her start in modeling) says she caught the acting bug about three years ago when it “felt more aligned” with who she was. Still, she’s fully aware of the skepticism and shade often thrown at those who attempt the tricky influencerto-actress transition. “That was something that I was scared of for a while, ‘Am I worthy of having a real career? Do I deserve something like that?’” Ren tells GRAZIA Gazette: Hamptons. “I know that triggers people sometimes — when people with followings step into a field and then immediately get more opportunities than people who have been there for 10 years. I wanted to be very careful with how I position myself in acting.” Ren got to work, and between 2017 and 2020 she studied, worked

with different teachers, and took acting classes to hone her craft. “I wanted to know if this was something I truly wanted to do,” she explains, “versus Well this just seems like the most obviously next step so let’s just go there.” Her dedication was worth it. Ren landed two roles: one in the upcoming film, The Enforcer, with Antonio Banderas and Kate Bosworth, and she just wrapped filming the series Second Chance alongside Annalynne McCord. For Ren, filming both projects was a cathartic experience. “I realized, I actually love acting because I get to release such deep parts of myself, and I feel so good after, and I feel so light. It’s like therapy,” she shares. In acting, Ren has found a way to express a new and more vulnerable side of herself with fans without sharing the day-to-day details of her own life. “I think that’s also why acting makes sense to me, because growing up in this social media age, it felt exhausting having to continually film my life story and continue to get people to be interested in me. It felt very unnatural and tiring and draining. I’m definitely at the point in my life where I don’t want to show everything on social media. I don’t want to share who I’m dating. I want to have my own life. My relationship with it is a lot healthier.”

I’M DEFINITELY AT THE POINT IN MY LIFE WHERE I DON’T WANT TO SHOW EVERYTHING ON SOCIAL MEDIA. MY RELATIONSHIP WITH IT IS A LOT HEALTHIER.”

A BITTER BATTLE OVER THE FATE OF THE EAST HAMPTON AIRPORT IS CREATING HAVOC IN THE SOUTH FORK.

The list of those known to use the East Hampton Airport he Town of East Hampton is caught in an all-out legal fray is a who’s who spanning multiple industries, from entertainers over roughly 600 acres nestled between some Beyonce and Jay-Z and former Google chair Eric Schmidt of the priciest property in the country, to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and pitting the rich against the even richer, New York Mets owner and hedge fund manager and multimillionaires against their Steve Cohen. On one side, welloceanside retreat. From July heeled residents living along the flight through the end of September paths of private jets, helicopters, and 2019, a study showed 47,000 turbo prop planes are tired of screaming complaints were lodged in poolside about rattling windows, connection to aircraft using the rumbling engines and the seemingly East Hampton Airport, with most of unending disruptions the aircrafts cause. them from 533 households. That total is up from 19,000 complaints who welcome the millions of dollars flowing Eric Schmidt and made during the same period four years earlier, when from open wallets into the area economy. Robert Kraft noisier helicopter service wasn’t quite as prevalent. Barry Raebeck, a head of Say No to KHTO, a group that has advocated for closing East Hampton Airport Jay Schneiderman, the supervisor of the Town of (known by the navigation code KHTO), summed up the Southampton, which partially lies in flight paths, fight last year: “This is not the haves versus the have nots,” acknowledged to The New York Times that “both sides are he told The New York Post. “It’s the have everythings versus right in some respects.” the have-a-lots.” “Yes, the airport has been here a long time, but it has

changed, aircraft have changed, flight patterns have changed,” he said. “It’s not really the same airport that it was.” The bitter tug of war between the wealthiest visitors and residents who descend on the area from the skies and the coterie of frustrated, fed-up homeowners on the ground has been years in the making, and East Hampton Town appears to have known the situation would continue to deteriorate as time marched on. In a longsighted bid to gain control of the airport, East Hampton Town opted to decline federal grant money two decades ago. As a result, a contract the town had with the Federal Aviation Administration that assured the airport would remain open finally expired in September 2021. Local officials acted fast and attempted to enact a plan to deactivate the public airport at 11:59 p.m. on May 17, reopening 33 hours later as the East Hampton Town Airport, a publicly-owned private prior-permission-required facility, complete with the new identifier, JPX. The change was to allow the town to limit flights to a single takeoff and landing per aircraft per day, while also shortening operating hours and regulating aircraft based on size and noise level. The day before the closing, however, a New York State Supreme Court Justice issued a temporary restraining order on the Town of East Hampton. Three parallel lawsuits filed on behalf of plaintiffs Blade Air Mobility, East End Hangars, the Coalition to Keep East Hampton Airport Open, and some residents in nearby communities succeeded in scuttling the plan in time for the busy summer months.

SUMMER 2022

Attorneys for the plaintiffs had told the judge that East Hampton Town was illegally going ahead with the closure and reopening before completing a required environmental review of the impact the new restrictions would have on the area. The Town of East Hampton’s outside counsel for the airport, William O’Connor, insisted the community’s board “rolled up its sleeves and studied the problem.” “They are trying to find a compromise,” O’Connor said. “And in any good compromise, there will be people [who are] very unhappy." The plaintiffs’ lawyers dismissed counterarguments as “gibberish,” “brazen,” and “scheming.” For now, at least, the so-called “have everythings” continue to fly in and out of East Hampton Airport. But while that battle is won, the war is far from over, and the town has reserved the right to go beyond past attempts to make it a private facility that would restrict flights. If issues continue to grow, “this airport will close,” O’Connor warned in court. “There is nothing under the law, federal or state, that requires us to maintain this airport or keep it open.” At the end of June, the Town of East Hampton announced another step backward in its fight against disruptive aircraft, though: Extensive negotiations to purchase Montauk Airport that began in 2019 fell through, and the facility went to a private buyer.

KELLY KILLOREN BENSIMON IS

‘JUST GETTING A MODEL, REAL STARTED’ WRITER, HOUSEWIFE,

Knowledge, Unfiltered

T

o say Kelly Killoren Bensimon has lived many lives would be an understatement. A former model, fashion editor, top-selling author, and reality television personality, the mother of two is now thriving as an award-winning real estate broker. And she’s just getting started. “I started modeling when I was 15,” Bensimon tells GRAZIA Gazette: Hamptons. Back then, modeling contests were the way to find talent. I entered Elite Model Management’s “Look of the Year” and I was runner up to Cindy Crawford.” She became the face of Ann Taylor at the age of 16, and her career took off from there. Being chosen as the face of French cosmetics company Clarins, shooting for some of the most prestigious fashion magazines in the world, and working with legendary photographers like Patrick Demarchelier has been a whirlwind. Bensimon says, “There have been a few pivotal moments for me. ... Modeling exposed me to the most talented designers and the most beautiful interiors in the world.” After moving from her native Illinois to study at Trinity College, Bensimon later transferred to Columbia University. Then, the multi-hyphenate powerhouse attended Northeastern University for her MBA and was accepted to the ultra-competitive NYU STERN for her Executive MBA in real estate and fashion. She wrote a recurring column for Hamptons Magazine and segued to her first coffee table book. “Writing anthologies like In the Spirit of the Hamptons for Assouline was a natural progression for me. I’ve always loved the Hamptons and I wanted to celebrate those who have made the area the most exclusive vacation destination in the world,” she explains. Bensimon ended up writing American Style for the publisher in 2004, and The Bikini Book in 2006. In the Spirit of the Hamptons was such a success, Assouline launched a second edition in 2013 that remains one of the publisher’s top sellers to this day. “I've been journaling all my life,” Bensimon reveals. “It was a way for me to process what I was learning and a way to catalog my feelings and memories.” She also stretched her writing muscle as a fashion and accessories editor for glossies such as Elle Accessories, released a nutrition book (I Can Make You Hot! The Supermodel Diet), and even dipped her pen into fiction. Novels such as A Dangerous Age from Simon and Schuster “were a sneak peek into the incredible world of the art world and publishing world,” she says. For her next book, Bensimon plans on pulling back the curtain on the real estate market. “It’s an incredible business with spirited characters,” she hints. Through it all, Bensimon sees “lifestyle” as the continuous

thread throughout her career. “I sell lifestyle,” she says. “I celebrate brands with partnerships like One Ocean Beauty, Veronique Gabai, Splits59, to name a few.” She’s designed her own outerwear line, Enville with Pologeorgis, for five seasons now, and has sold seven different jewelry lines at luxury department stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales, the now-defunct Barneys New York, and HSN. Then, of course, there’s RHONY. In 2009, Bensimon joined the cast of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City. A series favorite for three seasons, Bensimon still keeps in touch with some of her castmates. “I see a lot of Luann in the Hamptons, and Jill in Florida,” she says. Still, despite her history as a Renaissance woman, Bensimon’s latest evolution was probably her most surprising yet. As her mother declined in health years ago, Bensimon says, “she asked me to help sell our family home. It was a bittersweet moment for me. My mother always knew what was best for all of us and pushed us to do what we are good at. She was ahead of her time and an incredible forecaster. My parents molded me and made me who I am today. I feel very lucky to be who I am.” The rest is real estate history. Now building and leading the Kelly Killoren Bensimon Team at Douglas Elliman, Bensimon has landed some of the most exclusive listings in New York, the Hamptons, Palm Beach, Miami, Aspen, and Paris. “I represent the most incredible building in New York and the most prominent properties,” she says. “I’m so proud of my team and how diversified they are.” With trust as her most treasured virtue, she explains, “[Clients] trust my taste level and recognize how important their transaction is to me. I always get the best deals done, and I’m proud of that.” Buying and selling some of the most beautiful properties in the world, while still writing about “the best of the best in fashion, beauty, and accessories,” Bensimon says she’s “a synthesizer of information,” always making sure to curate an accessible approach to a luxurious lifestyle. She promises, “It’s been an incredible journey and I'm just getting started!”

THE ROLLING STONES FOUND MONTAUK THE PERFECT SETTING FOR A PERIOD OF UNMATCHED INSPIRATION. BY HANNAH MILITANO

T

he Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger lamented, “Hannah, honey was a peachy kind of girl,” in his poignant, wailing vocals on the track “Memory Motel,” on the 1976 record Black and Blue. “We spent a lonely night at the Memory Motel. It’s on the ocean, I guess you know it well.” It’s not your typical Rolling Stones tune. While lacking the punchy angst of their mid-’60s catalog, the ballad is embroiled in unquenchable soulful bravado with an earnest passion, recollecting a brief and whirlwind romance. Well over a decade after they conquered the nascent rock scene of the “British invasion,” the Stones embarked on yet another musical metamorphosis: discovering a safe haven in the quiet and quaint seaside town of Montauk in the Spring of 1975, at a little establishment dubbed the Memory Motel. The Stones had first uncovered the party potential of the Hamptons three years prior, when Jagger and his then-wife Bianca vacationed at pop-art catalyst Andy Warhol’s luxe Eothen estate (originally built by the heirs to the Arm & Hammer fortune in 1931). Taking their holiday alongside Princess Lee Radziwill, the Jaggers dined at the local Shagwong Tavern (frequented by the likes of Robert De Niro, Elizabeth Taylor, and Paul Simon), and Gosman’s at Montauk Harbor. Jagger later returned with his bandmates to prepare for their Tour of the Americas in the Summer of 1975. In all, they would stay for five creative weeks. It wasn’t exactly a quiet respite. The Stones unleashed a maelstrom of mayhem upon the local haunts, one that's still talked about today. Though they stayed at Warhol’s luxe estate, the group would visit the Memory Motel to indulge in heavy drinking, dancing, shooting pool, tussling, scuffling, and playing the only piano in town until sunrise. Film producer and Warhol contemporary Vincent Fremont stayed with the brand at Eothen to play gopher, to wrangle the carousing bunch during rehearsals, and to oversee the security detail as more and more fans traveled out East in the hopes of a rock star sighting. “Mick Jagger really put Montauk on the map,” said Warhol in the 1979 Bob Colacello book Exposures. “All the motels were overflowing with groupies. When Mick went into town everything stopped. Surfers chased him from White’s Drug Store to White’s Liquor Store.” With their stay came an onslaught of freewheeling socialites as well. From Warhol and Radziwill, to photographers Richard Avedon and Peter Beard, actress Candice Bergen, writer

Truman Capote, designers Halston and Ralph Lauren, and model Lauren Hutton, the party circuit made its way to the Hamptons, ready to embark on a haute bohemian odyssey with the Stones providing the soundtrack. Written by both Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, the song that would be “Memory Motel” actually began in the middle of recording sessions held in Munich earlier that year but took shape after the band invaded Montauk. Describing a woman with whom he had a one-night stand, Jagger remembers a girl with hazel eyes, a curved nose, slightly curved teeth, beach sprayed hair, with a “mind of her own,” who drove a green-blue pick-up truck; a woman who picked up Mick’s guitar and played him a tune, she clearly left a strong impression. Many have long believed the identity of “Hannah” to be an alias for singer-songwriter Carly Simon, based on the subject’s detailed description and Simon’s long-brewing “will they, won’t they” relationship with The Rolling Stones frontman. However, “Hannah” is more likely to be a young woman Jagger romanced amid his Montauk escape. Describing the aching loneliness of life on the road, a love lost, and a dewy Montauk spring, Jagger paints a transportive picture, emitting a vulnerability rarely seen and soul-searing vocals, co-led by Richards. Going on for over seven minutes, the song is one of the longest in the Stones’ ample body of work.

SUMMER 2022

Meanwhile, the Memory Motel lives on, too. Now helmed by Brian Kenny, founder of Montauk Ventures LLC, the historic property has grown into a successful hospitality establishment in recent years. The HBO series Girls even filmed in one of their rooms, and Kristian Nairn (who played Hodor on Game of Thrones) DJ'd there the week his character met his demise on the fan-favorite series. “We've had the full gamut of stars stopping by,” Kenny told GRAZIA Gazette: Hamptons. “Leonardo Dicaprio rocks the Memory Motel T-shirt daily.” In addition, Kenny says his spot's been frequented by Busta Rhymes, NBA star Blake Griffin, Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, former POTUS Bill Clinton, actress Rebecca Romijn, and countless models from the city, along with the thousands of people who have come to set their sights on the legendary Rolling Stones landmark. Soon, fans worldwide will be able to get a glimpse: Kenny is currently in the midst of producing a Memory Motel series, with part of the show planned as a scripted cartoon format. The Stones’s stay will of course get the full treatment. While their five-week residence has evolved into the stuff of legend and lore, the Memory Motel will forever be known as a charming artifact of rock n’ roll history, immortalized by The Rolling Stones ballad and the sense of charm, wonder, and summer love it embodies.

Sustainability is more than a buzz word at Paradero Todos Santos, a luxury “soft adventure” destination located in Mexico’s Baja region. The 35-suite property, which opened in February 2021 and is the brainchild of Mexican entrepreneurs Pablo Carmona and Josh Kremer, goes above and beyond to use local products and employ workers from the neighboring area, helping to earn the property a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation — of which there are only two in Baja. “Paradero is an experienceinclusive destination rooted in meaningful connections with nature, sustainability, community development and conservation,” Carmona and Kremer tell GRAZIA Gazette:Hamptons. “Experiences with biodynamic farmers, meditation classes alongside the sunflower fields, and morning and sunset hikes in the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains are all included in the stay. It's in part to encourage guests to get out and explore.” A haven for surfers and outdoor enthusiasts, Paradero Todos Santos describes itself as “80 percent landscape, 20 percent construction project.” Spread out over 160 acres of familyowned farms within the La Mesa farming community, Paradero — which translates loosely to “a stop on the road” — was built on the fundamental belief that “extraordinary experiences go hand-in- hand with sustainability, community development, and conservation.” With over 355 days of sunshine and direct flights from major cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, Denver, and New York City, it’s always a good time to visit. By immersing guests in nature, Paradero pays homage and respect to the land it inhabits, just a short hour ride away from San Jose del Cabo airport. Employing locals ensures that generations of knowledge about this lush oasis tucked away in desert land at the foot of the Sierra de la Laguna mountain range remain intact.

“Todos Santos is a unique place in Baja where five distinct eco-systems collide: desert, mountains, beaches, a palm tree oasis, and farmland,” Carmona and Kremer explain. “There's no other place where you can find such a diverse landscape in such a small pocket.” The grounds at Paradero Todos Santos feature more than 100,000-square feet of botanical gardens, comprised of 80 endemic species including red sand verbena, Mojave yucca, and Shaw’s agave. Curated by Mexico City-based landscape architecture firm Polen — whose past clients include Google and Twitter — the spread includes more than 20,000 plants, many of which were on the land before the resort was built. Constructed using locally sourced beige concrete to blend seamlessly into the landscape, the property also features accents of Mexican tornillo wood, metal, and textiles. It was designed with a trapezoidshaped to ensure breathtaking views from every suite. From the artisan-made furniture and the rooftop yoga deck to the open-fire kitchen with a traditional Oaxacan clay oven and multi-purpose “Living Room,” there is a sense of authenticity and thoughtfulness in every corner of the resort. The 35 suites designed by interior design firm B Huber feature custom-made furnishings that have been locally sourced from Guadalajara and Oaxaca, with no detail overlooked. The 16 Garden Suites offer the ultimate in indoor/outdoor living, complete with hammocks and outdoor soaking tubs; Rooftop Suites allow guests an unforgettable view of the surrounding farmland, mountains, and ocean. The showstopping corner Master Casita occupies three floors including a kitchenette, dining area, and plunge pool — the ultimate in privacy and understated luxury. “We wanted to create a hotel that would exist in harmony with the community and natural beauty to blur the line between indoor and outdoor living,” Carmona and Kremer say. “Paradero aims to promote Mexico’s design talent, work with 'honest' materials and utilize the highest-quality craftsmanship from furniture to textiles. We spent more than a year designing with our architecture, interior design, and landscaping teams, where the same importance was given to each practice.” Just as much thought went into creating the rest of the offerings at Paradero Todos Santos as well. Chef Eduardo Rios, a Pujol alum, heads up the kitchen, which has become known

as a destination in itself for both travelers and locals alike. The culinary team only uses five purveyors and dishes are created using a maximum of five ingredients. “We are bringing farm-to-table to another level,” boast Carmona and Kremer. “Just steps from our restaurants are our onsite garden and we're surrounded by more than a dozen family farms. We source as much as possible from our immediate farms, seas and ranches.” The region’s Mediterranean climate is ideally suited for growing the herbs and vegetables that are used to craft dishes at the adultonly Paradero restaurant, including Grilled Chocolata clams, Bone Marrow Tamal, Green Scallop Aquachile and Huitlacoche Ceviche. At Pericúe Bar, a customized tasting menu of heirloom corn tortillas, smoked meat, and fish is complemented with cocktails made from fresh-pressed juices and homemade mixers. Wellness is a top priority at Paradero Todos Santos, with activities like surfing, yoga and mountain biking and hiking on offer. The Ojo de Agua Spa is a highlight, with everything from Sage Hot Stone and After Hike Sports Massages to a Sound Healing Experience and the From De City to the Desert facial. Those seeking something rooted in local tradition should opt for the Traditional Rituals, like the Yenekamu Ritual from the aboriginal inhabitants of Baja or the Temazcal Treatment. “Our goal is to offer life-changing wellness and healing experiences,” say Carmona and Kremer. “The authentic Temazcal treatment takes place in a 'hut' that was crafted from adobe from local soil and by a local Temazcal builder. The ceremony is led by our full-time Mexican Shaman. Once inside, hot volcanic rocks are placed in the center and water is poured over the rocks to produce steam. The treatment has been part of Mexican culture for around 1,000 years.” paraderohotels.com

With everyone in the beauty monde raving about Jimena Garcia — she’s a brow “wizard,” “goddess,” “guru,” and “virtuoso” depending on who you ask — it’s no wonder the house that Coco and Karl built (oui, Chanel) designated her as their first official Brow Artist. Garcia initially had a career in Art History at The Metropolitan Museum and Parsons School of Design. That fine art background led to the study of people’s faces, and now Garcia uses her keen eye to create a natural and individual aesthetic for each client. An appointment starts with a discussion of your brow goals, followed by a variety of techniques that can include tweezing, waxing, sugaring, and brow massage — all using Chanel products, of course. Garcia will be available for private appointments.

hair draws wide-ranging celebrities such as Helen Mirren, Ivanka Trump, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. (Fun fact: Lady Gaga went from black to blonde with one of his colorists.) The Bridgehampton outpost is a full-service

salon that offers cuts, colors, and blowouts as well as makeup, manicures, and waxing. All treatments can be done outside and stylists will make house- and boat-calls – because it’s the Hamptons, after all.

SUMMER 2022

NAIL ARTIST

There’s no shortage of Hamptons nail salons for a basic mani-pedi, but IG grid-worthy nails? Not so much. Luckily, celebrity nail artist Mo Qin is taking private appointments this summer in the Hamptons. (Her NYC salon, Oh My Nails, is open seven days a week.) Qin’s A-list clientele includes Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Ashley Graham, Selena Gomez, and several stars of this year’s Met Gala: Lily Allen, Emily Ratajkowski, and Eileen Gu. She’s even done Pete Davidson’s nails! Qin’s designs run from wicked gothic to intricate glamour to colorful whimsy, but if it’s a classic French you’re after— like Bey on vacay — Qin can execute perfectly. Get inspo from her own IG feed (@ ohmynailsnyc).

For summer 2022, Czech is setting up shop in Southampton, where clients can continue their skincare regimes while enjoying the summer on eastern Long Island’s sandy shores. Die-hard fans swear by the Toner and the Balm, formulated with ceramides and hyaluronic acid along with Reetha fruit and sea algae complex. (@joannaczechofficial)

What’s In My Bag? NICOLE BERRIE

PHOTOGRAPHER DON PENNY STYLIST TY GASKINS

Nicole Berrie didn’t spend her summers out East. “My family traveled abroad,” says the Body Harmony author and Bonberi co-founder. “But over the pandemic, we spent more time out East and I fell in love with Amagansett.” This summer, Berrie’s plant-based market Bonberi Mart is popping up at Equinox Bridgehampton — and she’s enjoying the beach life. “I’m so excited to create more memories with our two children: Jude, 6, and Sea, 4,” says Berrie, “whether it’s wakeboarding at Atlantic Beach or scouring the organic produce at Amber Waves, which is my literal happy place.” GRAZIA USA
