One-point perspective refers to a point converging on a plane. If you look down a long road, the sides of the road will seem joined together at some point in the distance. This point is the vanishing point. In one point perspective there is only one vanishing points on the horizon line on, all the lines that move away from you will appear to converge to one vanishing point. For most left-handed people this movement is counterclockwise. Conversely, right- handed individuals are more likely to begin drawing curved lines in a clockwise direction. And, some people find both movements equally natural.

Layering Painting is about layering of colors to create depth & details.
Mixing
Mixing paints is something that requires an understanding of color theory.

STRATEGIES
SKETCH OUT
Lightly sketch out your idea, remember, you are going to cover this sketch up with paint, so don’t put a lot of details in it.
Step2: Step3:
BASE COAT
Pick your LIGHTEST Color to be your base coat
Work from Background to Foreground Remember to continue to layer your paints. If you have really light colors/ values in the Foreground (you can leave those areas (paper) White and do them at the end)
Step4:
Work from Light to Dark. Save the darks for the very end. (These are your details)
Things to Remember: Use bigger brushes for bigger areas, and smaller brushes for smaller areas.
If you want to layer two different colors, but you don’t want to blend them, let your paint dry, then layer your colors/values.

Socrates once said, "If we hadn't a voice or a tongue, and wanted to express things to one another, wouldn't we try to communicate by moving our hands”.
Webster's dictionary defines “hands” as; The terminal part of the human arm located below the forearm, used for grasping and holding and consisting of the wrist, palm, four fingers, and an opposable thumb. Hands are the chief organs for physically manipulating the environment, used for both gross motor skills (such as grasping a large object) and fine motor skills (such as picking up a small pebble). The fingertips contain some of the densest areas of nerve endings on the body, are the richest source of tactile feedback. A normal human hand consists of Digits, Bones (27 to be precise), Articulations, and Muscles. An artist must be familiar with the anatomy of hand in order to reproduce it Artistically.
Assignment Your Job is to draw a picture of a hand that is as realistic as possible. Remember that a hand consists of fingers, a palm, and an opposable thumb. Your picture must show at least two fingers connected to a palm.
Required Techniques -Required Tools: Various Pencils (4H, HB, B, 3B) & an eraser. -You must show (me) your planning & inspiration for your ideas. -You cannot use any smudging tools, (this includes your finger) show control with your pencil. -You must use your Canvas/ paper to the fullest. LOGO
DESIGN DRAW
PAINT
Hiring a professional logo designer is an important step in forming a business. What you may not realize is that the growth of logos from a simple craftsperson's signature to the basis for relationships between companies and customers is a new development. Before the Industrial Revolution, people purchased goods directly from the craftsperson, the grocer, and the farmer. Pottery, woodwork, stonework and even bread carried a stamp of the craftsperson—a signature of someone you could shake the hand of. When designing a logo, it's important to think carefully about what it will convey to others. Every shape, line, and color in a logo will send a message to all who see it. Logos surround the world that we live in, they give us a visual representation of something that would not other wise be visual. There are basically three kinds of logos. Font-based, literally illustration, abstract graphic. Font-based logos are primarily edited type/Font. Sony’s logo is an example of a font-based logo. Then there are logos that literally illustrate what a company does, such as when a house-painting company uses an illustration of a brush in its logo. And finally, there are abstract graphic symbols-such as Nike's swoosh.
Assignment You have been hired to design a new logo for your favorite company. The company wants to change their image. The CEO has stated that this new logo must be new and refreshing: “We must go in a new direction.”
Required Techniques -You must do at least 5 different sketches of your design before you can start your final project. (I will check your sketches before I let you begin your final piece.) -You will make 1 logo for your favorite company. -Media used: Pencil & Water Color (Pen if needed) -Tools you must use: Water color brush, Pencil, Plastic eraser, and ruler -Your Canvas needs to be: -Your logo must be clean and ready to be printed.

The term “concrete jungle” is often used to refer to a city made of bricks and concrete. The term was used by Bob Marley in his song "Concrete Jungle". The song was originally recorded in the late 1960s. The song described what it was like growing up in the Jamaica's Trenchtown ghetto. Many Artists have used the term “concrete jungle” in reference to living in a big city a.k.a “zoo”. PerspectiveThe art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to other objects when viewed from different angles.
Assignment Your job is to create a City a.k.a “Concrete Jungle”. Your city must be fictional. Your city (must have) buildings, trees, a ground, and a sky. The perspective of your city must be consistent throughout your image. You will have to use all of your drawing skills to recreate the texture, mood, lighting, and perspective of a city. “Do not forget to use you drawing skills. Remember, just because you have a ruler does not mean you cannot still make your own lines, shapes, and forms”. Be creative and accurate equally.
Required Techniques -Tools used: Various Pencils (4H, HB, B, etc...), a ruler & an eraser.
PICTURE REQUIREMENTS: -Your piece must have at least 3 City Buildings. -Your piece must have concrete somewhere in it. -Your piece must have a ground. (this could be roads, alleyways, or sidewalks, etc...) -You must include at least 2 trees (any size, but aproriate for your piece) -Your piece must have a sky (w/ clouds) -You will need to shade all the different textures apropriatly.
-You will need to use a ruler for all objects that require strait lines. (you will also need to create your own lines) -You cannot use any smudging tools, (this includes your finger) show control of your tools. -You must use your Canvas/ paper to the fullest. Traditionally gig posters referred to "gigs" or shows played by rock bands. A great poster is one that makes you kick yourself that you didn’t or couldn’t think of an idea quite like that. Where no matter what the band is and your previous feelings towards them, you cannot help but enjoy the visual feast that they have more than likely commissioned for us to enjoy. But a great looking poster isn’t necessarily a successful one. Music posters need to put their message across and put it across well. Whether it’s advertising a gig, a tour or a new album, you need to get the information across to the viewer quickly and clearly.
Assignment Your job is to paint a GiG Poster for your favorite band or artist. You will need to use all the knowledge and techniques that you have learned throughout this class. Remember this is your FINAL.
Required Techniques -Required Tools: Acrylic paints & Pencil -You must show (me) your planning & inspiration for your ideas. -You will need to have a simple color scheme for your GiG Poster. (No more than three different colors can be used, tents & shades don’t apply to this.) -Your piece needs to have a full range of values.
