Paper Manipulated Fashion Emily Davies Style Junky

Paper Manipulated Fashion When we created this outfit we mainly used heavy weight paper and masking tape. We created an off the shoulder dress with flower, rose and bow detailing. For the body of the dress we first used masking tape and then layered patch work magazine squares over the top to create a colourful patch work effect, for detailing along the bottom and the top of the dress we created flowers and roses by scrunching heavy weight paper into small circular pieces, we then stapled them onto edge of the dress. To create the bow we folded heavy weight paper to create a fan effect, the characteristics of the paper enabled us to fold it into a fan shape with straight, clean edges, we then brought the paper together by using masking tape. When sticking the paper for the body of the dress we found the dress didn’t appear as tight as we intended because of the density of the paper. Overall I think our outfit was successful as it contained colour and detailing. I feel like the paper helped us to develop our skills because we could use straight edges and it was a good density for pleating. If we were to do it again and improve the dress I think we would add the rose detailing across the whole dress using double sided masking tape as it would be too difficult to staple.

Paper Manipulated Fashion For this outfit we manipulated heavy weight paper by folding, cutting and sticking paper together in the style of a floor length skirt and top with shoulder pads. When we created the shoulder pads we folded the paper into a fan shape and then attached it to the shoulder area, the heavy weight paper enabled us to fold the paper easily and create the effect we wanted to, we also created a fan effect for the piece on the skirt. For the top area we simply taped a piece of paper around the bust area, because the paper was quite heavy it was hard to bend in the right place, but once we taped it with masking tape we created the right look. Overall I feel like our outfit was successful, the heavy weight paper enabled us to create a fan effect and also helped when we created the floor length skirt

Paper Manipulated Fashion For this outfit we manipulated both embroidery threads and leaves. To secure both the leaves and threads we simply tucked the leaves into the belt section of the dress, to secure the bodice section of the dress we simply tied knots and pleated the material. The threads made the bodice part of the dress very easy to make as the thread was very versatile and we could create the thread into many shapes, it also gave us the freedom to create different patterns for example the plats and weaving. For the skirt section of the dress we simply tucked the leaves into the belt section, this was a little harder to do as the leaves were difficult to secure, we did experiment with staples but the threads were to thin, so finally we decided to simply tuck the leaves into place. Overall I think this outfit was successful, I enjoyed using the threads as it gave us freedom to create more versatile shapes and patterns. I really liked the overall image of the dress, I defiantly think there is a tribal element with the added leaves, which I think makes the dress stand out.

Customizing Garments

Customizing Garments

For this garment I decided to cut into the sleeves, to Shorten the length of them. I also decided to create a V neck effect by cutting into the neck, after cutting Into the basic white t- shirt I decided to then stitch The neck back up, I used blue pipe cleaners to stich Down the side of the V neck, I used pipe cleaner as I Found them very easy to manipulate into the Shape I wanted to so it was easy to create different Patterns like the swirls at the bottom of the shirt. For the corset effect in the middle of V I used a thin blue ribbon, I used thin blue ribbon as I felt it gave a good corset effect and brought The material together well. Overall I like the effect I have create with both The ribbon and the pipe cleaners as it was easy to bend into shape.

Paper Manipulation For this outfit we create a collar and matching Top piece. For this outfit we only used paper rolled Into both long and short tube like shapes. To create The collar we took inspiration from a dress that had Been made by students previously in the college. Firstly We made a base for the collar piece with a single strip of Thick paper, we fitted this around the neck and shoulders Of the manikin then we added large then smaller tube shapes To create a large graduated collar. We then made the top piece by Using the same process around the front of the manikin. We used paper In tube like shapes as we found the shape very quick and easy to make. We had some difficulty when securing the roles to the base on the manikin as it Was difficult for the stapler to go through both layers of paper. Overall I think the Outfit was successful if we had ,had more time I would have liked to add a skirt made Out of similar tube shapes to complete the outfit. Dress made by students, we took inspiration from the collar shape.

Made from cupcake cases Inspiration for bodice

For my ďŹ nal design I have been inspired To make a dress made out of cup cake Cases for the bodice part of the dress. For the bottom part of the dress I am making a trail and skirt out of doyleys tied together with wool. I will make the bodice out of pastel colour cake cases and the skirt and trail will be made from White doyleys as I think the colours go well together. For my ďŹ nal design I have decided to create a sweet theme, for the bodice part of the dress I have used cupcake cases and round sweets. For the skirt part of the dress I have used doyleys. And For the shoes I have used mini marshmallows.

Final Design Ideas Sweet and cake theme-

For the top garment I have taken a lot of inspiration from Katy Perry’s Sweet outfit. I used the cup cake theme as inspiration but I adapted the cake Cases in my own way.

On google I found this dress made completely of cup Cakes. Although this is made into a full dress I took inspiration For the top that I was putting together.

Although I liked all of these outfits, For my own garment I used lighter colours That complemented each other. I also added Real sweets rather than cakes. I used sweets because They are lighter and easier to assemble than actual cup cakes.

Final Design- Top

Firstly I made a net bodice to secure the cake cases to and to make a base for the bodice of the dress. For the front of the dress I used blue and pink cup cake cases and blue and pink sweets. To secure the cup cake cases I first threaded a large blue cake case with a large pink case, I then threaded a small blue case and pink sweet to the rest of the cake cases I had just threaded together. I then sowed the cake cases to the net bodice I made previously. I did this repeatedly until both the front and Back of the bodice are covered. For the collar of the top I sowed individual sweets around the neck line in alternating colours. I think the colours of the cake cases work well together as they are all pastel colours.

For the top I have been inspired to use cup cake cases that I have seen on pinterest. Although The cases are assembled in a slightly different

When experimenting with paper I found it was not very flexible And hard to manipulate, so I decided to Use cupcake cases as they are easier to bend.

Final Design- Shoes For the shoes I used a light pink pair of heels, and covered them in mini marshmallows, I used Boston glue, which I found worked quite well once it was left to go tacky. As the marshmallows are small and squishy I found they were quite Quick and easy to stick to the shoe. For the shoes I have been inspired by a dress I have seen on pinterest, using small marshmallows.

Final Photo’s For this image I simply used a Brightness effect from Instagram To change the brightness of the Photo, I used this effect as I liked The way it made the colours stand Out. I didn’t change a lot about the Background, I just added a dusky pink shade to blend with the pastel colours in the outfit.

For this image I cut around the body Shape using the polygonal Lasso tool. For the rest of the body I used the black and white filter so the colour’s on the top stood out more.

For this image I adjusted the brightness And contrast on Photoshop. I also added A pastel pink background to go with the Colours on the shoes, top and jeans.

For this image I lightened the Whole image and tinted The background a very light Pink so it is in keeping with All the other images.

I didn’t feel the need to add Any extra effects as I think the Images look better simple and The pastel colours are show cased Well.

For this image I lightened one Side more than the other side, There was a natural shadow on one Side so I worked with this and played With the shadow effect. I also Adjusted the brightness and contrast for This image.

For this image I adjusted the Contrast and brightness of the Whole image and lightened the Background.
