OUGD203 EVALUATION EMILY FAIRBANK
This module was one of the most fulfilling on the course so far. I have thoroughly enjoyed every part of it. I feel that I have gained experiences in yet more areas of designing and have really helped me develop my skills and interest further. The module was split into two parts. The first brief was a collaboration that I feel was a successful brief. Having only ever worked either in a group or on my own I was surprised as how well I worked with just one other. Luckily when we went through the briefs together we both had the same first choice; the Feel Good Drinks brief. I feel that Francesca and I worked well together, and had the overall same opinions on the designs meaning we could move forward and develop our work rapidly. I feel that the collaboration made me more aware of time management and I was making more conscious effort to achieve continual development and progress. I think this was because I had more responsibility to keep up my set of design outcomes and not wanting to let down my partner. Overall I really enjoyed this brief and was very pleased with the design outcomes, and working in collaboration.
The second half of the module was the ‘Product, Range and Distribution’ brief. Initially I found this more difficult as I spent a lot of time deciding on what brief to chose. Initially I spent a week developing the whisky brief before re-reading the Number 17 brief and adapting it to design a range of packaging for the Body Shop. One insight I gained from this brief is that I can sometimes find it hard to make decisions quickly. This is something I can be aware of for future work. I really liked the concept I came up with and the range of solutions I initially proposed. I feel that I spent too long on trying to design and develop the ‘Beau’ packaging line; instead of balancing my time equally and ensuring I had good range of design outcomes. Despite this, I was really pleased with how the packaging designs came out. For this brief I took on board the working strategies Fred told me about in my tutorial last term; research, design, evaluate daily and this will lead to continual development and final strong design outcome. I feel my designs represent exactly what I was aiming for; stylish, professional, modern and more representational of the quality of the Body Shop Make up.

Overall I have really enjoyed this brief and I feel that it has helped me identify the areas of Graphic Design that I am more interesting in; packaging and promotion. I feel this module has helped my design skills develop greatly. I feel much more confident in my work. I feel that I think more about the concept and how the deliverables should look to attract the target audience rather than just sticking to the designs I like and know. I feel my time management skill have improved greatly (although there is still room for improvement). My main weakness is the ability to make concept and design decisions quickly and stick to them . I think that my researching skills were put to better use in Product, Range and Distribution brief. I was doing continual research all through the brief in order to develop my designs, instead of just doing a bulk of research at the start of the brief.
