History of Meme Meme isn’t new: it dates to evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins’ 1976 book The Selfish Gene, where it functioned with a meaning other than its current most common one.
Richard Dawkins
“Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches. Just as genes propagate themselves in the gene pool by leaping from body to body via sperms or eggs, so memes propagate themselves in the meme pool by leaping from brain to brain via a process which, in the broad sense, can be called imitation. ----- Richard Dawkins

Meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture. I use jewelry to create my own meme and show my attitude in the pop culture in this contemporary era. I want my meme as a trendy language that allows the audience to laugh and think at the same time. I believe the way humans think and talk transformed from object to image to characters/words and then transformed back to image and object. I focus on the audience’s interaction with my piece.
