Artist Statement As a Chinese citizen, I grow up learning Chinese, speaking in Chinese and writing in Chinese. As time goes on, I realize Chinese is not only part of my culture, but it has also been part of my blood. As a part-time mandarin tutor, I often have the desire to show the beauty of this language which has over 3000 years of history to the groups who don’t know Chinese. Chinese Character arts often present in Chinese Calligraphy, I create Chinese charters into jewelry because people can physically touch the character and feel the stroke of each character, that’s also one of my favorite parts, to wax carve the character and feel the cadence. I also use found objects to help people understand that Chinese is the only pictographic language that exists right now.
