Top 10 Live Photos of the This is in no particular order...I chose the following photos because they are my favorites that I’ve shot this year. They all deserve their own full page spread so I’m going to write about them here and why I chose them.
1. Crown the Empire / May 15th / Altar Bar / Pittsburgh, PA This is a cool moment that I don’t feel we see Dave get to do that much. This venue’s stage is very close to the crowd and the barricade from stage to crowd is short. The tons of secuirty didn’t stop the fans from reaching out. I remember the energy as being insane. This was a sold out headliner for CTE and Dave’s face pretty much says it all. This is also why I’m in love with my 14mm that I can be in the small spaces and get shots like this. 2. All Time Low / May 21st / Stage AE / Pittsburgh, PA First time shooting them and the lighting was so good. I’m all for lens flares too. All Time Low has been one of my favorites for awhile and it was such an honor to finally shoot them and get a shot like this. I can’t describe how it felt to shoot this but I’ll never forget that feeling. 3. Mod Sun / July 9th / First Niagra Pavillion / Burgettstown, PA This dude was crazy and it was raining. It was terrible shooting conditions and I was afraid that I wasn’t going to get anything. It was also the early part of the day at Warped, and I mean who bends like this that early? 4. Melanie Martinez / September 15th / Stage AE / Pittsburgh, PA This happened to be my second time shooting Melanie this year. She doesn’t disappoint. I love her stage presence and costumes. I was trying hard to get “Crybaby” with her in a shot, success! 5. Wale / September 25th / Almono / Hazelwood, PA I almost died shooting this and came out with this shot. That’s all the reason. 6- Polarize Magazine
e Year 6. Oh Honey / September 26th / Almono / Hazelwood, PA They were cool and stayed at their mics a lot so I decided to experiment and see what double exposures I could get. Props to her sleeves for making this even cooler. 7. Melanie Martinez / March 13th / The Club at Stage AE / Pittsburgh, PA The Club is a weird thing to shoot at Stage AE. I really like the unique angle of this and how it’s just her. I asked some of the balcony crowd if I could grab a shot or two and they let me. I was hanging over the balcony to get this shot. Worth it. 8. The Ghost Inside / March 26th / Altar Bar / Pittsburgh, PA This is a case of right place and the right moment. The lighting sucked so I had to make it in black and white. I still can’t believe I got this shot. 9. The Neighbourhood / October 12th / Stage AE / Pittsburgh, PA I love messing with greens to make them this color. The lighting was another favorite of mine this night. Overall I really love the colors and this act isn’t something I’m usually shooting. 10. Vinyl Theatre / April 28th / Altar Bar / Pittsburgh, PA If you’ve followed my work and socials since then, and even gone on my website...you have literally seen this photo everywhere. If I have to show one photo of my best live shot, this is it. I need a defining photo like this in 2016.

Elle King
O Starry Night 3 This was a big deal to me. It was my first time shooting at the Peterson Events Center which
is double the size of the capacity venue that I usually shoot at. I also was shooting bigger radio played type of perfomers as in Elle King, Rob Thomas, George Ezra (*cue me now singing Budapest in my head for the next hour), and Nate Ruess. I shot this for also one of the bigger publication that I contribute to, so the pressure was really on.
Let’s face it, put me at any concert to shoot and double exposures are going to be taken by me because that’s my style and it doesn’t matter how big the artist. My two favorite are of Elle King and Nate Ruess. Oh, Nate Ruess was seriously so much fun to shoot even though I thought the one time that he was going to take me out with his mic stand, but I survived to tell that story! The crowd was filled with young and old which is something I haven’t really experienced in my usual shooting genre. This was like branching out for me in a whole bunch of ways and defintely an experience I won’t forget. Sidenote: I was able to break during each artist and go near the food. Behold was a Dippin Dots, so after shooting Nate Ruess that was going to be my reward before shooting the last act of the night. I was very sad when I went to get some and it was cash only, so a sad music photographer who didn’t get Dippin Dots wants to remind everyone to always carry some cash on you for these moments.

I HATE this venue, Pittsburgh seriously needs to get better venues for these types of shows! It was my second
time shooting this so I had known that it was going to be crazy. I’m totally going to blame that it was a odd warm December day on the fact that everyone bands and crowds were so into this show and the fact that festivals rarely happen in December. I’m still doing my odd in-camera double exposures this was a lot of fun to do at this show. Anti-Flag’s one song the crowd put their middle fingers up and I knew I wanted to get a shot of that and the band as a double. This crowd was insane and I love the crowd surfer shot I got. I’ve been trying to use more then just my 14mm at a show so I also used my 50mm and loved the results.
