EMMA AMIDEI ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO
EMMA AMIDEI
Florence, Italy, 31.08.1994
I have graduated in July 2019 at the Architecture School of the University of Florence with a Final Degree Project “Ecomuseum of Pratomagno”, a project of recovery and improvement of an abandoned village, located in the Apennine mountain range of Pratomagno in Tuscany, with the aim of limiting the phenomenon of mountain depopulation by creating new spaces for the community activities. After some experiences in italian studios, I decided to go abroad to compare my idea of architecture with the one of the other countries and I lived in Granada for six months. I have a good attitude for teamworking and adaptibility. To live in Spain has given me not only the chance to meet new people and point of view, but also to improve my cultural and linguistic baggage. ECOMUSEUM OF PRATOMAGNO Final project | Prof. F. Rossi Prodi, Prof. V. Lingua, Arch. D. Aurilio
Depopulation of mountainous areas began in Italy after World War II but is still a problem today in many regions of the country. It represents the most drastic aspect of a much wider process of land abandonment and with it the related activities, following the rapid process of industrialization and the search for higher life standards. The subject of this thesis is the study of an eco-museum in the Apennine mountain range of Pratomagno, in central Italy, which can contribute to limiting the phenomenon of mountain depopulation. The primary objective of this eco-museum is to encourage the local inhabitants to rediscover their own territorial identity by frequenting a cultural district made of a network of museums, educational centres and places of historical and artistic relevance within the territory. In other words, being not only an incentive to tourism, this sort of “spread museum aims to involve the resident population, together with local associations and institutions, in order to protect their cultural assets and make them known to visitors. In support of this thesis, two critical areas have been identified in the municipality of Loro Ciuffenna, where we suggest a project of recovery. The first area, called La Baita, is located along the panoramic route that connects Loro Ciuffenna with the mountain villages of Chiassaia, Anciolina and San Giustino Valdarno. The idea is to redevelop the various historical pathways of the area and strengthen its value by replacing the existing building, in a poor state of preservation, with a Visitor Center. At about 30 minutes walk, one can reach the second area: Roveraia, an abandoned village whose name indicates a strong presence of oak trees(1) and that was one of the scenes of the War of Liberation in the Pratomagno area during the Second World War, as evidenced by the poor state of most of the buildings. The project, through the construction of housing and laboratories, aims to recover not only the architectural value, but also its historical memory and the landscape. If the Visitor Center is a crossing point, Borgata Roveraia is a place to stop and reflect. NOTES 1. Rovere is the common name for Oak.

ANTONIO LUPI HEADQUARTER Laboratorio di Progettazione V | Prof. F. Arrigoni Team: E. Amidei, F. Bettarini, M. Boschi
The project aims to be the main business center of the Antonio Lupi company in Stabbia (FI). It consists of an office center, a showroom, a business museum and two processing areas: one for wood and one for glass. The project takes into account the distinction between the flow of workers and that of visitors, clearly separating the entrances and accessible outdoor spaces. The lot borders to the South on the city, and to the North on countryside. For this reason, on the North side the processing area has a continuous glass window that, showing the view of greenery, contributes to the well-being of the worker.

URBAN RENEWAL OF THE PORT OF LIVORNO Laboratorio di Progettazione IV e Urbanistica II | Prof. F. Rossi Prodi, Prof. M. Scamporrino Team: E. Amidei, M. Altemura, F. Bettarini, M. Boschi, B. Capaccioli
The project consists in redeveloping a part of the Port of Livorno. The project stems from the continuation of two road axes of the urban fabric of the historic center, up to the main square where they meet. The buildings are “grafted on these two axes and are intended for various uses, mainly commercial, residential and administrative. The highlight of the project is the elevated park, with parking lots at the lower levels. The objective is to integrate the port area, as much as possible, into the city space, so as to create new elements that enrich the city.

HOUSING FOR THE PORT OF LIVORNO Laboratorio di Progettazione IV e Urbanistica II | Prof. F. Rossi Prodi, Prof. M. Scamporrino Team: E. Amidei, F. Bettarini, M. Boschi, F. Nicassio
The project aims to create a “fulcrum” within the Port of Livorno. The building embraces the square, which is the meeting point of the two main axes of the new urban layout of the port. This is the heart of the project, closed only on three sides, creating an overlook of the sea. The square becomes a reflection of the building’s façade, engraved by horizontal lines, between which green islands are casually set . The building has various functions: it mainly consists of residences and offices, but there is also a hotel and a museum. On the ground floor there is a commercial area, fully integrated with the square in front.

MEMORIAS DE CEUTA
The transformation of Ceuta’s old “Almacén de Abastos” into an archive and military museum Team: Muñoz Miranda Architects; A. Muñoz Miranda; E. Amidei, J. C. Dias Montes, L. Fabbri, A. Karimli, G. Roma
The basic aim of the project is to transform the old warehouse named “Almacén de Abastos” into an archive and also a military museum for Ceuta, a town that has an important military history. The building has two floors with separate entrances. The project maintains this original partition: the museum is on the ground floor, while the archives are on the second floor. The main entrance is located in the courtyard next to the building. From here the visitor can walk directly into the museum, which is conceived as a single open space entirely dedicated to the history of this military town. The archives can be accessed from the courtyard where a metallic staircase combined with a lift leads to the first floor. A new roof with a skylight provides the archives with better lighting. The building is also enhanced by a wooden mezzanine, which creates a separate space for the reader, visitor or worker.

REDITUS
Urban renewal of Guadix’s Alcazaba IV Concurso de Arquitectura Richard H. Driehaus | Guadix, Granada Team: Muñoz Miranda Architects; A. Muñoz Miranda; E. Amidei, J. C. Dias Montes, L. Fabbri, A. Karimli, G. Roma
This project aims to revitalize the old town surrounding the Alcazaba, starting by uniting all the different areas with the same style of paving. Access to the Alcazaba is improved by a new structure which functions as an infopoint, made mainly of wood with a light metallic frame. The nearby Palacio de los Saavedra, the old seminary, has become a hotel, and its church a multifunctional area. In order not to alter the original layout of the Palace, the rooms have been provided with box-like structures containing the bathrooms, the beds (and, in some cases, the wardrobes), as well as the plumbing and electric systems. The same care has been applied to the patios, which have been restored to their original condition. Another aim of the project is to regenerate part of the residential area of the city centre: the solution proposed by this project is to restore the traditional houses of the neighbourhood, with the addition of ateliers and housing for craftworkers.
