UIB LIBRARY COMPETITION ENTRY - AMID.CERO9
Advertisement
STUDIO DELTA
10.08.19
The courtyards proposed by this competition entry cater for light to penetrate the building into its core and pose as its main design feature.
UIB Library functions as a cell-like interconnected structure with its sunken in courtyards catering for air circulation, water collection, roof gardens, terraces, and light penetration - much like an organism
Differing light qualities as emitted by the courtyards influence the layout of the furniture and guide the usage of spaces.

STUDIO DELTA
24.08.19
The sketch was translated into a digital model in order to visualize the 3dimensionality of the drawings.
The digital surfaces were later unrolled and printed to aid in the physical model making

EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 4, SM2, 2019
ITERATION 1
STUDIO DELTA
2.9.19
The model investigates the introduction of the exterior to the interior to create a stronger connection between the two.
The relationship between the two is increased when opening up the space directly towards the exterior.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 2, SM2, 2019
ITERATION 2
STUDIO DELTA
2.9.19
Building on the previous iteration, the opening of the facade is further investigated.
The channelling aspect of the cone like forms is increased with opening the floors, a waterfall like space creates an interconnection of the floors.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 2, SM2, 2019
ITERATION 3
STUDIO DELTA
2.9.19
The formal language of the facade in the previous iteration now informs the overall shape of the exterior and interior spaces.
The penetrating yet funneling exterior space moulds the buildings envelope.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 2, SM2, 2019
ITERATION 4
STUDIO DELTA
2.9.19
To create a stronger connection of interior, exterior and context, the spaces are dropped into the ground.
Differing heights and depths of the spaces create circulation spaces, visual connectivity and interrelated or dispersed spaces.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 2, SM2, 2019
ITERATION 5
STUDIO DELTA
2.9.19
A further dimension is added when incorporation the actual ground into the spacial and formal organisation.
Above ground spaces are continued underground, and create an interrelationship.
The building rises from and with the groundline.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 2, SM2, 2019
WEEK 7
STUDIO DELTA
13.9.19

The modular system by penda allows for an easy installation and the use of CLT, a more sustainable building material. Limitation due to production mostly in Europe but a proposal for Australia possible
Possible structural rationalisation of form idea from model
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 4, SM2, 2019
WEEK 8
STRUCTURAL SKETCH MODEL
STUDIO DELTA

SCHEMATIC FLOOR PLAN - GROUND 1:500
A
STUDIO DELTA
22.9.19
The ground floor is a continuation of the exterior public realm. The glass curtain wall blurs the line of exterior and interior.
Retail and hospitality opportunities and the ground floor facing Little Bourke Street maintain the characteristics of the street and neighbourhood.
Services are located to the north of the building
The library is accessible from both sides and caters for easily accessed public services such as Wifi, computers and printers, as well as a collection of books.

SCHEMATIC FLOOR PLAN - 2ND FLOOR 1:500
A
STUDIO DELTA
20.9.19
The 2nd floor marks the location of private rooms, bookable spaces, studios and more secluded spaces that offer more privacy.
Furthermore is caters for the connection to the third floor and ultimately the public roof park.
Cut-outs in the structure throughout the library allow for an increased visible connectivity, better air circulation and indirect light to circulate the open spaces.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 3, SM2, 2019
WEEK 9
SECTION A-A 1:500
STUDIO DELTA
20.9.19
The archives underground are lit partially by the large cut-outs in the floor.
Worker-spaces, stud-space, maker-spaces and other technology based programs may take place in the subfloor.
The public roof park allows for leisure and a meeting space.
The green roof allows for improved storm water run off quality, increases biodiversity, and counteracts the urban heat-island effect.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 3, SM2, 2019
PERSPECTIVE
STUDIO DELTA
22.9.19
The library as a meeting space and place, a continuation of public space and landscape.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 3, SM2, 2019
MODEL 1
STUDIO DELTA
22.9.19
The first iteration explores the formal possibilities of the landscape oriented design.
The rising and falling of the built form offers possibilities for an interaction of landscape, built and un-built form.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 3, SM2, 2019
MODEL 2
STUDIO DELTA
22.9.19
The second iteration explores the internal division of spaces and the circulation possibilities that come with the opening of the envelope.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 3, SM2, 2019
MODEL 3
STUDIO DELTA
22.9.19
The third model explores the structure of the library and its interaction with the floor plates.
The intended wooden structure is lightweight, only impacting the location as little as possible, with the possibility of being reused and recycled, after the lifespan of the building is over. Local materials shall be sourced.
The open structure allows for visible connection throughout the design, moments of interest and surprise and cater for human interaction with one another as well as the built environment.
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 3, SM2, 2019
WEEK 10
SKETCHES OF GROUND FLOOR AND SECTION
STUDIO DELTA
11.10.19
The furthering of the design lead to the intention to open up the ground floor and to emphasise the public space
An articulated space through physical objects, ramps and furniture evokes the feeling of a continuation of the public space and landscape.
The Service cores are articulated and become an integral part of the design
EMMA KELLY 950391 11 ASSIGNMENT 4, SM2, 2019
WEEK 10
FURTHER DESIGN ITERATION
STUDIO DELTA
