SESSION OFFERINGS
All sessions will be offering during both rounds. Attracting Commuter Students to Your Organization (ADM 435)
Come to this session if: “We want commuters to be able to get involved, but we don’t know how.” Nearly 25% of the students that attend Emmanuel College live beyond its gates, but 100% of Emmanuel students can benefit from a great involvement experience. How can you design your student group experience to make sure that commuters can take advantage of them? Ashlee Jeannot ’16 has some answers for you, and will be sharing them in this session on how to open up your community to the students beyond our walls. Avoiding the “Oops”: Protecting Your Group’s Reputation Through Marketing (ADM 125)
Come to this session if: “Our group wants to advertise actively, but want to make sure we do it right.” So many of us have seen examples of big companies and organizations making mistakes in ad campaigns or on social media, as well as the trouble it causes for their brand. None of us want that to happen to you! To help you avoid your “oops,” Jason Meier (Emerson College) and Joel Pettigrew (MIT) are back to talk to you about the thoughts you can put in to prevent public blunders, using examples from high-profile companies and pop culture.

Growing a Greater Group: How to Diversify your Organization (ADM 332)
Come to this session if: “We want our organization to be open to all students, but aren’t sure how to appeal to everyone.” What does it mean to have, run, or be an inclusive organization? Jeff Smith, Director of Multicultural Programs is here to help you answer some of the questions that may be holding you back: what if we offend someone? How do we find out what people want? Is there anything we shouldn’t do? Help The Treasury Help You! (ADM 432)
Come to this session if: “We need help understanding parts of the budget/special funding/reallocation process.” All organization officers (treasurers or not!) are invited to this session with Greg Dowler ’15, outgoing Executive Director of Finance Sara Massery ’14, and new Executive Director of Finance Jeff Zakrzewski ’16 to learn about all things budget related- this is a great opportunity to ask them any questions you may have about how a process works and why- they’re here to help! How We Do It: Hard-Learned Lessons in Travel and Fundraising (ADM 430)
Come to this session if: “Our group wants to get started traveling and/or fundraising, but we’re not sure how the process works.” When it comes to procedures, two of the most labor-intensive things an organization can do are decide to travel, and organize a fundraiser. While we have no true experts in the area, members of Model UN and Habitat for Humanity complete both these processes often, and have learned a great deal about how to do it well. Join Keith Baillargeon ‘16, Emily Larkin ‘15, Kyera Sterling ‘15, and Kaitlyn Waters ’15 as they talk you through the process, share some of the mistakes they’ve made along the way, and provide tips on how to get the best result for your group. Keep Calm and Lead On: Minimizing Stress and Burnout as a Student Leader (ADM 355)
Come to this session if: “Sometimes I feel like there’s just too much going on, and that I can’t relax.” With classes, group duties, internships, and (somehow) free time, the life of a student leader can be a busy one, and certainly not without stress. But there are certainly ways to make sure that the stress doesn’t win, and Akyanna Smith ’15 are here to help you learn about it. She will be talking about common sources of stress, how she stays calm during it all, and sharing resources about who can help you when things do get tough.

New Officer Bootcamp (ADM 438)
Come to this session if: “I just got into this position, and I’m not sure what the rules are.” Are you new to the role of officer in a student group? Welcome, we’re glad to have you! Join Phillipe Miranda, Executive Director of Club Relations, and Amma Marfo, Assistant Director of Student Activities, for an overview of what is expected of organizations, how they work with SGA and the Office of Student Activities, and learn the answer to many common questions that arise when assuming an officer role. Passing the Torch: Ensuring Effective Officer Transition (ADM 354)
Come to this session if: “I want to make sure that next year’s board is set up for success.” At the end of each year, all that has been learned and achieved must be passed on to a new set of faces, eager to keep the goals and momentum of the organization going. But what needs to be done to make sure that all the important information, relationships, and knowledge make it from one group to the next? Allison Bleier ’14 and Lauren Burgess ’12 are here to use their lessons as leaders of CASE/ECPB to share tips on how to make sure each new executive board is set up for success. Shout It Out! Sharing Leadership Experiences in the Real World (ADM 442)
Come to this session if: “I want to know how I can use my leadership experiences to get and keep a good job.” Dan Darcy, our Director of Student Activities, has seen thousands of student leaders head out into the real world, armed with the skills that came from being an active and involved citizen on campus. Join him in this session to learn how to articulate all the good work you’ve done in cover letters, interviews, and conversations with coworkers and supervisors.
WHAT IS NOTES HOUR? Inspired by the “Notes Day” practice at Pixar Studios, Notes Hour is your time to be brutally honest about what doesn’t work. Are there practices, procedures, or policies that you don’t understand? Think there’s a way to do them better? Now’s the time to let us know. We want to hear the problems…and we want you to help us design solutions. Members of SGA will be walking you through an exercise that will allow you to share your concerns AND ideas with us.
