As we gather to celebrate 200 years of educating and empowering young women, I find myself both awe-filled and deeply grateful to be head of school at this singular moment. In this historic instance, we look reverently back and eagerly forward, knowing that the energy of legions has carried us thus far, and that many more believers will carry the baton to our next rousing success. We have prepared for this moment...for 200 years. Each of you has been a part of the creation of three-dimensional excellence that is Emma Willard School, and I am thrilled you could be a part of what promises to be a celebration heard around the world. We are ready—polished and brilliant—to embark on our third century. We know who we are; we know what we stand for; we are clear about where we are going. And we have Emma Hart Willard to thank for that clarity. She gifted us with a timeless vision, one that can be re-invented with magnificent passion for every generation of girls that passes through these grey walls. Most assuredly, our reputation is distinctive, and our work is dynamic. Look around and be proud. I hope you see what I see: girls who are embracing their educational experience with vigor and purpose, exceptional faculty and staff who bring passion to work every day, alumnae and parents who partner with us to secure the vision and offer their wisdom for each new challenge we confront, and a place we call home that is surely the most extraordinary campus in the country. Yes, be proud. Together we breathe vibrant life into the founder’s wonderful idea, just as others before us have done and those who follow us will do. This place, this school, this moment is a treasured gift. I believe we all know that and, certainly, that is a part of the energy we feel in this moment. This weekend is for celebration. It is for renewing connections and securing new ones. It is about true community and the dedication it requires to sustain excellence for two centuries. Finally, this weekend is about the future. Let’s link arms and loudly proclaim our conviction that Emma Willard School stands elegantly and authentically on Mount Ida, leading the way for girls’ education around the world. Thank you for joining us and for making this moment real indeed.
Trudy E. Hall Head of School
Welcome to the Bicentennial Celebration! This weekend we come together to make history. The women and their families spread around Mount Ida on this historic weekend represent generations of audacious women who share a common bond. We are bound together by this exceptional place. We are bound together by the confidence the Emma Willard School experience has engendered within us. And we are of course bound together through the friendships many of us have sustained for decades.
Throughout the weekend, you will most certainly reconnect with old friends, but you will also have the opportunity to meet other Emma Girls who share your authentic and bold spirit, dedication to helping others, and love for this school. Take advantage of the bond you already share and get to know the fellow alumnae surrounding you this weekend. Through the Emma Academies, you will explore your passions or perhaps ignite a new one. Dive in, make a new connection, and—like the proverbial Emma Girl—don’t be shy. As we move through the weekend, you will have opportunities to laugh as we dance under the stars for the Bicentennial Revelry and gather to share meals. And, because Emma has always been about both fun and substance, we will also have times for reflection as a community as we meet some of our most beloved faculty and think deeply about what the next 200 years of Emma Willard School might look like at the Signature Convocation. Get ready to think big. Get ready to celebrate. Get ready to proudly and joyfully usher in our Bicentennial! Bicentennial Steering Committee Tri–Chairs,

Information Important Notes This weekend is unlike any Reunion before it. One of the biggest differences is that all generations of Emma Girls, including our current students, are coming together in one place. To keep our youngest and underage Emma Girls safe:
· Alcohol is only allowed inside the Bicentennial Tent. · We are proud to say that Emma is a 100-percent smoke-free campus. Smoking is not allowed on
campus, including the parking lots or tents. · We know you miss your old room, but the dorms are our current girls’ homes and they will be living there throughout the weekend. To protect the safety and privacy of the students, the dorms will be locked throughout the celebration. Alma Mater Reared on the heights of Ida, Against the wide-arched sky, The sunbeams fall athwart thee, The moonbeams gently lie. Across thy open hilltop, The winds blow bold and free; O ye grey walls, protecting, We raise our song to thee! Come let us sing together, A song of grateful praise; In honor of our founder The joyous strains upraise. ’Twas she beheld the vision And wrought with steadfast will; ’Tis we with joyous labor That vision must fulfill! “Semper fidelis” singing To Emma Willard dear, Above the grey walls ringing Our song floats sweet and clear. O touch each fleeting moment With friendship’s alchemy. The days that lie before us, Our memories soon shall be!
Verse by Caroline Carter Davis, Class of 1904 Music by Mendelssohn
