For more than 200 years girls have found their voice and drive at Emma Willard School. The supportive community, inspiring architecture, and engaging programming allows girls from around the world to feel comfortable and empowered to be their best selves. Emma Girls are bold thinkers who aren’t afraid to challenge themselves, and our summer campers are, too. GirlSummer embodies the same ideals and commitment to helping girls develop inner strength and confidence by offering courses and opportunities for girls to engage in activities they love, and explore new areas of interest in an encouraging and fun environment. The fun and learning isn’t limited to the school’s 137 acres, either. Emma is located in Troy, New York—the heart of New York’s Capital Region. The campus is located twenty minutes from the state capital in Albany and three hours from major cultural destinations in the Adirondacks, Boston, New York City, and Montreal.

Want to strengthen your public speaking skills? Interested in robotics? Looking to hone your photography skills? Itching to write your personal story? GirlSummer has options for you to explore these options and so much more!
Have Fun
GirlSummer offers a wide range of elective courses in athletics, the visual and performing arts, languages and writing, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Each course is designed to get you thinking and push you to develop new skills—from improving your swim stroke to designing intricate pottery, or practicing Broadway singing and dancing.

Go Deep If you’re a girl or a parent of a girl entering grades 1-5, you get to build a schedule of five electives that excite and intrigue.
Girls in grades 6-9 can also choose to personalize their experience with more advanced electives, or choose to dig deeper into one of three concentrations:
Our English Immersion program welcomes girls from around the world to live at Emma and strengthen their English speaking, reading, and writing skills. Daily interaction with native speakers and on and offcampus cultural activities allow you to feel comfortable and confident in your abilities, and introduce you to US culture. For budding writers, our Writer’s Retreat offers the opportunity to discover your voice, hone your skills, and get the story in your head out on paper! The program exposes you to a wide range of creative writing styles, from memoir and poetry to short fiction and essay writing. Girls who aspire to stand out on the tennis courts can be challenged in dynamic daily play while improving their stroke technique and singles and doubles strategy at our Tennis Institute. Led by Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) National Clinician Jack Curry and his team of PTR professionals, this camp is for players of all levels—from true novices to experienced players looking to advance their games.

Home Away From Home GirlSummer’s boarding opportunities invite girls in grades 5-9 to have a fully immersive experience that allows you to grow in ways you could never expect! Living away from home allows you to create close connections with your room and hall mates. Lifelong friendships are formed in the small moments—during meals in the dining hall, at evening hall teas and activities, and by taking off-campus adventures to downtown Troy and the greater Capital Region. Boarding also allows you to take responsibility for yourself in ways that aren’t expected at home. By being part of a hall community and adhering to the standards and expectations of your peers, you learn to respect and appreciate each other.
