Non è un mistero che anche noi esseri umani siamo condizionati nel fisico e nell’umore dai cicli stagionali. Le quote giornaliere di irradiazione solare, è ormai scientificamente provato, influiscono sulla nostra salute e sul nostro stato psicofisico. Dear Readers, at European latitudes the scent of spring is beginning to awaken energy and vitality that are physiologically retained in winter and set aside just for the ‘rebirth’ connected to the summer season. It is no secret that humans too are phisically and emotionally affected by seasonal cycles. The daily rates of solar radiation, it is now scientifically proven, affect our health and our mental and physical state. So, even if it’s true that Atmosphere readers - thanks to the vast network of our company - can reach every latitude, longitude or hemisphere at any time of the year chasing the season they like the most, April and May finally revive vital mechanisms, beyond the deadlines calendar, projecting us towards the most beautiful season according to tradition. That said, in this issue
you will find our travel stories dedicated in particular to two European destinations rich in historical and, above all, naturalistic beauty and that, with good weather, give new importance to their enchanted places in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea: Sardinia and the Balearic Islands. The first one is the Meridiana destination par excellence, our native land. Speaking about Sardinia is - every time like speaking about a unique wonder. Nature seems to have paid special attention to this land. A protrusion of Africa - as we all know we are on the extreme edge of the North African plate - which creeps in the Mediterranean, almost as if it was part of the European world to which, however, it belongs now with full right. Il primo tentativo di classificare con metodo la «genialità» umana è stato proposto dallo psicologo Tony Buzan e dal grande maestro di scacchi Raymond Keene nel volume The Book of Genius. Nella top ten figurano Einstein, Fidia, Alessandro il Grande, Thomas Jefferson, Newton, Michelangelo, Goethe, i costruttori della Grande Piramide, Shakespeare. E al vertice Leonardo. Al quale Milano dedica la più grande esposizione mai ideata in Italia, che in parte si affianca temporalmente ad Expo, dal 15 aprile al 19 luglio. The first attempt to rank methodically the human ‘genius’ was proposed by the psychologist Tony Buzan and the great chess master Raymond Keene in The Book of Genius. In the top ten Einstein, Fidia, Alexander the Great, Thomas Jefferson, Newton, Michelangelo, Goethe, the builders of the Great Pyramid, Shakespeare are included. And at the top of it there is Leonardo to whom Milan will devote the largest exhibition ever conceived in Italy, which in part is simultaneous to Expo, from April 15 to July 19. The exhibition Leonardo 1452-1519 is more original than the one that took place in 1939 at the Triennale and presents a vision of the standard bearer of knowledge which is not rhetoric, but ‘holistic’, centreed on the continuous mingling among arts and ‘clairvoyance’ engineering - ranging from flying machines to diving equipment - a subject honoured by the curators Pietro C. Marani and Maria Teresa Fiorio with an entire section. The masterpieces of painting, the original codes and the more than one hundred autographs drawings are contextualized in a path enriched by contemporary works by Botticelli, Antonello da Messina, Bramante, among others. Two final sections show the influence of the theorist Leonardo in the modern age and the formation of his myth, focused on the Mona Lisa. Outstanding are the loans from the major international institutions: three paintings come from the Louvre: Belle Ferronière, Annunciation, St. John the Baptist. And then the Saint Jerome from the Pinacoteca Vaticana, the Madonna Dreyfuss from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Scapiliata from the National Gallery of Parma. The Codex Atlanticus is the main core of the autograph drawings - about a hundred - even coming from the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, the Royal Library in Windsor, the British Museum, the Cabinet of Drawings of the Uffizi, the Metropolitan Museum and the Morgan Library in New York, from Royal Library of Turin and the Fondation Custodia in Paris. The catalog, too, published by Skira - who conceived and promoted the exhibition along with the Royal Palace, with the promotion of the City of Milan -, constitutes a new element: becoming a new monograph on the artist examined by the major world specialists. Milan at the centre of the world Per cinque mesi Milano sarà l’ombelico del mondo. Ma le radici di questa vocazione internazionale ci riportano indientro nei secoli fino all’«età dell’oro» dell’Arte Lombarda dai Visconti agli Sforza. Titolo scelto per la mostra a Palazzo Reale che, sulle orme della rassegna del 1958 curata da Longhi, celebra il mecenatismo di personaggi illuminati dal quale è scaturito quell’acme artistico raggiunto dalla fine del Medioevo al Rinascimento in campi eterogenei che spaziano dalla miniatura all’oreficeria, dalla pittura all’architettura (come nel caso del Duomo). For five months Milan will be the centre of the world. But the roots of this international calling takes us back to centuries until the ‘golden age’ of Arte Lombarda dai Visconti agli Sforza. harlize Theron è una delle donne più belle del mondo. Una delle poche star hollywoodiane che emanano un grande carisma e che camminano avendo intorno un’aurea particolare. Un fascino innato e una capacità di seduzione che bucano lo schermo e che ammaliano in maniera elegante e sensuale le platee di tutto il pianeta. Un mistero di bellezza che, però, sorprendentemente per l’interessata non ha nulla di strano o inavvicinabile. «Il pubblico ha un’idea strana di come le attrici si sottopongano ad una trasformazione. Io, quando vado in giro per i festival o per le anteprime mondiali, mi muovo con quattro persone di fiducia al seguito: la mia parrucchiera, il mio truccatore, una ragazza che si occupa dei miei vestiti e un’altra che prende in prestito i gioielli da Bulgari e altri. Ed è una cosa ridicola! Quando sono a casa mia non mi sveglio mica come mi si vede sulle copertine delle riviste o al Festival di Sanremo, quella non sono io!»

l’attrice? «Quando recito non si tratta più di me, ma del personaggio che interpreto. Non posso andare sul set e dire: ‘No, non mi piace quel vestito’. In quel caso il mio lavoro è indossare quello che il mio personaggio porterebbe in quel momento. Monster è stato un caso un po’ estremo in cui mi sono trasformata davvero, anche fisicamente, in un’altra donna. Non era una questione solo di dover rinunciare alla bellezza, ma anche di comprendere le ferite di una persona totalmente diversa da me. Le sue cicatrici sono diventate parte di me e ho vinto un Oscar grazie a questo processo spirituale e non certo in virtù dell’elemento fisico.» In che senso? «La vera trasformazione di una donna è sempre di natura interiore e non certo fisica. Altrimenti chiunque indossando un elemento prostetico potrebbe vincere un Oscar. Cosa che non succede, perché il vero cambiamento è sempre sottopelle. Credo che quello sia stato il mio miglior film, ma non perché sono ingrassata o perché mi hanno imbruttita, bensì perché grazie a tutti questi strumenti fisici ho individuato l’anima del personaggio. Non è stato il mio aspetto a vincere l’Oscar, ma il lavoro drammatico che ho fatto. La gente crede che gli attori si trasformano quando recitano. Non è così: a parte casi estremi ci trasformiamo quando portiamo noi stessi in pubblico. Il lavoro di un’attrice, invece, è soprattutto una scoperta.» Di cosa? «Di noi stessi, degli esseri umani… non credo che nell’affrontare un personaggio si possa parlare di quello che è giusto o di quello che è sbagliato in assoluto. Si tratta sempre di valutare quello che ‘sembra’ giusto e quello che ‘sembra’ sbagliato. Fare film non è un processo in bianco e nero: c’è un sacco di grigio. Oltre ad essere truccatissime, a potere indossare abiti che valgono anche centinaia di migliaia di dollari, ad essere fotografate dai più importanti artisti del mondo che usano le luci in modo altamente professionale, le nostre foto vengono ritoccate digitalmente per farci sembrare perfette. Le assicuro che qualsiasi donna sottoposta al trattamento che vivo io ogni giorno da parte del mio parrucchiere e del mio truccatore potrebbe diventare come me!» Ne è davvero sicura? Ci permetta di esprimere molti dubbi a proposito di questa affermazione… «È vero, mi creda! Venga a trovarmi domattina quando mi sveglio per scoprire come sono davvero prima del trucco. Il punto è che la gente dimentica dove vivono le persone come me. Hollywood è, in fondo, una piccola comunità dove tutto è perfetto perché

puoi permetterti sempre i migliori abiti, i migliori stilisti e i migliori truccatori del mondo. Il minimo che può accadere, alla fine, è che io in pubblico sembri bellissima se non addirittura perfetta. Del resto come potrebbe essere diversamente? Io Charlize amo la moda, adoro i vestiti e mi piace da morire l’idea di avere un truccatore e un parrucchiere che si occupano di me. Sono una ragazza come tante che adora vestirsi bene.» Tornando alla questione del «tutte le donne possono essere me» vale anche quando si trova nuda davanti all’obiettivo? «In realtà essere nuda davanti alla macchina da presa, di per sé, non significa nulla. Le cose diventano più o meno importanti a seconda della considerazione che diamo loro. Se è una cosa che ci preoccupa essere nudi, allora è un guaio, ma – in realtà – per quello che mi concerne, si tratta di me Charlize nuda in un film… e allora? Non è come se avessi trovato una cura per il cancro o lo stessi provocando… va bene così.» Che differenza c’è tra la Diva e

INTERVIEW un ruolo è la verità. Soltanto la verità. Voglio dormire tranquilla la notte, senza avere nulla sulla mia coscienza. Ogni cosa che faccio mi porta ad essere diversa. Non desidero ripetermi, ma seguire un percorso di evoluzione personale cercando di fare attenzione e non sbagliare troppo.» Lei è una donna molto intelligente: gli errori si evitano… «Non è vero, posso diventare un’idiota come tutti: anche le persone intelligenti commettono degli errori. La mia sfida è cercare qualcosa di nuovo e interessante e per portarla avanti seguo molto il mio istinto.» Le è mai pesato essere Charlize Theron? Ha mai pensato di dovere fuggire dalla sua immagine patinata? «È una fantasia che ho avuto e che, credo, tutti hanno una volta nella vita. Quando ho visto Into the Wild di Sean Penn sono rimasta senza parole. Quel film mi ha incasinato la testa per un bel po’. Per me era come osservare un sogno ad occhi aperti che ciascuno di noi, di tanto in tanto, ha. Quando vediamo questo tizio che si lascia tutto dietro, siamo con lui e ci viene quasi da urlare: ‘Yeah!’. Poi cosa fa? Muore da solo in un autobus circondato da animali feroci scrivendo: ‘Nulla importa davvero se non puoi condividerlo con qualcuno!’ E che cavolo! È ovvio che ci sono momenti della vita in cui ti guardi intorno e ti viene voglia di scappare,
ma, poi, impari ad essere forte, a superare gli ostacoli, perché se resisti, qualcosa di buono, alla fine, arriverà davvero nella tua vita.» Un momento in cui questa filosofia è servita molto? «Il giorno del mio primo provino: era per il film Species dove avrei dovuto interpretare un’aliena seminuda da un altro mondo. Quando ho letto la sceneggiatura non capivo nemmeno il senso di quello che c’era scritto. Risultato finale? Un disastro.» Qual è il suo segreto per ‘resistere’? «Andare avanti diventando un po’ ‘sbruffona’. È come quando sei nella pioggia e dici ‘davvero? Non hai niente di meglio da mostrarmi?’ e, alla fine, arrivano anche tuoni e fulmini. Credo che la cosa più importante siano i rapporti con le persone che ti circondano: l’amore, l’amicizia. È questo a spingerci sempre avanti e a crearci delle radici.» Quanto contano le persone nelle scelte della sua vita? «Moltissimo: a parte il mio compagno e mia madre, anche gli amici che ho sono fondamentali. Qualche tempo fa, ad esempio, pensavo di traslocare, ma poiché a Los Angeles ho così tanti cari amici mi sono resa conto che era impossibile. Non potevo separarmi da loro, perché ci sono persone da cui non voglio allontanarmi. È questo che mi riporta con i piedi per terra. I rapporti umani sono quelli che ti legano ad un
luogo e a delle persone.» Qualche anno fa lei ha dichiarato di essere ancora una ragazza di campagna. La vittoria dell’Oscar, l’essere presente sulle copertine di tutte le principali riviste del mondo l’ha cambiata? È ancora – almeno un po’ – una ragazza di campagna? «La mia carriera è cambiata, perché ho avuto molte opportunità in più grazie a quella vittoria, ma per il resto sono sempre la stessa, perché un Oscar non cambia nulla: l’Oscar non ti lava i piatti e non spolvera la casa.» Anche perché è un po’ ‘bassino’ e ha ottanta anni… «Sì e a me tocca lucidarlo di tanto in tanto con la crema speciale che ti fornisce l’Academy.» Parliamo del progetto Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. Di cosa si tratta? «Siamo in un momento cruciale, dove si può decidere della vita di una quantità incredibile di persone. Fermare le morti causate dall’Aids è possibile, la soluzione è davvero dietro l’angolo, basta poco. La frontiera di questo progetto è la prevenzione: io mi sono impegnata in prima persona in Sud Africa per promuovere l’informazione, la cultura e la prevenzione nelle scuole per combattere la piaga dell’Aids. Basta fare conoscere a tutti quello che succede e come. La cultura e la conoscenza rendono liberi.»

I assure you that any woman undergoing the treatment that I experience every day by my hairdresser and my make-up artist could be-
come like me!' Are you really sure? Let us express many doubts about this statement... ‘It’s true, believe me! Come and see me tomorrow morning when I will wake up to find out how really I am before putting my makeup on. The point is that people forget where people like me live. In the end, Hollywood is a small community where everything is perfect because you can always afford the best clothes, the best designers and the best makeup artists in the world. The least that can happen in the end is that I look beautiful in public if not even perfect. And how could it be otherwise? I love fashion, I love clothes and I love the idea of having a makeup artist and a hairdresser who take

I am a girl like any others who loves to dress up.’ Going back to the issue of ‘all women can be me’, does it also apply when you are naked in front of the camera? ‘In reality, being naked in front of the camera, in itself, doesn’t mean anything. Things become more or less important depending on the consideration that we give them. If being naked is something that concerns us, then it is a mess, but – in reality – as far as I’m concerned, it’s me Charlize naked in a film...and then? It is not as if I had found a cure for cancer or I was causing it... it’s ok.’ What is the difference between the Diva and the actress? ‘When I play it’s not about me, but the character I play. I cannot go on set and say, ‘No, I don’t like that dress’. In that case, my job is to wear what my character would at that time. Monster was a bit extreme case where I was really physically transformed i n t o another woman. It was not just a matter of having to give up beauty, but also of understanding the wounds of a person totally different from me. Her scars have become part of me and I won an Oscar thanks to this spiritual process and certainly not thanks to the physical appearance.’ What do you mean? ‘The real transformation of a wo m a n i s a l ways inside her and certainly it is not physical. Otherwise anyone wearing a prosthetic element could win an Oscar. This doesn’t happen, because the real change is always under the skin. I think that was my best film, not because I put on weight or because they made me uglier, but because thanks to all these physical tools I found the soul of the character. It was not the way I look to make me win the Oscar, but the dramatic work I’ve done. People believe that actors transform themselves when they play. It’s not like this: apart from extreme cases we change when we bring/show ourselves to the public. The job of an actress, however, is primarily a discovery.’ Of what? ‘Of ourselves, of human beings... I don’t think that in dealing with a character we can talk about what is right or what is wrong at all. It is always to evaluate what ‘seems’ to be right and what ‘seems’ to be wrong. Making films is not a black and white process: there is a lot of grey. We live in the ‘grey area’ and, in the end, that’s where we draw our inspiration. What interests me the most when I work with a role is the truth. Only the truth. I want to sleep quiet at night, with nothing on my conscience. Everything I do leads me

to be different. I do not want to repeat myself, but follow a path of personal evolution trying to be careful without making too many mistakes.’ You are a very smart woman: mistakes can be avoided... ‘It’s not true, I can be an idiot like anybody: even smart people make mistakes. My challenge is to try something new and interesting, and in order to take it forward I follow my instincts.’ Have you ever thought that being Charlize Theron is hard? Have you ever considered of having to run away your glossy image? ‘It’s a fantasy I had and that I believe everyone has once in a lifetime. When I saw Into the Wild by Sean Penn I was speechless. That film messed up my mind for a while. For me it was like watching a waking dream that anyone dreams from time to time. When we see this guy that leaves everything behind him, we are with him and we almost shout: ‘Yeah!’. Then what is this? He died alone in a bus surrounded by wild animals writing: ‘Nothing really matters if you cannot share it with someone!’ What the hell! It is obvious that there are moments in your life when you look around and you are trying to escape, but, then, you learn to be strong, to overcome obstacles, because if you resist, something good, in the end, really comes into your life.’ Can you tell me a time when this philosophy
was really helpful? ‘The day of my first audition: it was for the film Species in which I had to play an halfnaked alien from another world. When I read the script I didn’t understand even the meaning of what was written. The final result? A disaster.’ What is your secret to ‘resist’? ‘To go ahead becoming a little ‘blowhard’. It’s like when you’re in the rain and you say, ‘Really? Don’t you have anything better to show me?’, And, in the end, there are also thunder and lightning. I think the most important thing are the relationships with the people around you: love, friendship. This is what always drives us on and makes us create our roots.’ How important are people when you make a choice in your life? ‘Very much: except for my partner and my mother, even the friends I have are fundamental. Some time ago, for example, I thought about moving, but since I have so many dear friends in Los Angeles, I realized that it was impossible. I couldn’t live without them, because there are people you don’t want to leave. This is what brings me back down to earth. Human relationships are those that bind you to a place and to the people.’ A few years ago you said you were still a country girl. Has winning the Oscar, being present on the covers of all the major magazines in the world changed you? Are you still - at least a little - a country girl? ‘My career changed, because I had many more opportunities thanks to that winning, but otherwise I’m always the same, because Oscar doesn’t change anything: the Oscar doesn’t wash your dishes and dusts the house.’ Also because it is a bit ‘shorty’ and is eighty years old... ‘Yes and I have to polish it from time to time with the special cream that the Academy provides you.’ Let’s speak of the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. What is it about? ‘We are at a crucial time, when you can decide about the life of an incredible amount of people. Stopping the deaths caused by AIDS is possible, the solution is really around the corner, it takes a little. The aim of this project is prevention: I am committed in person in South Africa to promote information, culture and prevention in schools to fight the scourge of AIDS. You only have to make everyone know what’s going on and how. Culture and knowledge make us free.’ 23

e la magia fosse un luogo sarebbe raggiungibile dai gradini pendenti che convogliano adagio nel salotto stalagmitico delle Grotte is Janas. Situate nel territorio di Sadali, a circa un’ora e mezza da Cagliari, si raggiungono dopo aver attraversato una rigogliosa foresta di lecci, un tempo ancor più fitta e animata dai ticchettii dei telai delle fate, che in questo luogo avevano collocato la loro dimora. Se guardate bene, infatti, le loro sagome sono ben visibili dopo qualche passo in quel groviglio di roccia denominata S’Omu de is Janas. Secondo la leggenda le tre creature mitologiche che vivevano

qui furono pietrificate per giustizia divina, dopo aver ucciso un frate lamentatosi per la preparazione delle frittelle nel periodo della quaresima. Forse fu in posti come questo che si perfezionò l’arte della tessitura, vivissima soprattutto tra i viottoli di Mogoro, in cui le donne lavorano con dedizione gli arazzi destinati ai balconi delle case durante la processione del Corpus Domini. L’ago trafigge la trama del tessuto impreziosendolo di grumi e granelli che si tramutano in fiori, forme geometriche e unicorni. La stessa magia si rintraccia lungo le frange incrociate a losanga che delimitano elegantemente il contorno degli scialli
triangolari di Oliena, mentre l’influenza iberica si riversa interamente nell’abito di Teulada, lavorato con Su Punt’è Nù. Stando alla storia, tramandata di generazione in generazione, fu inventato da una donna condannata al carcere a vita e ad ogni punto nodo corrisponderebbe a un grano del Rosario. Non si sa l’epoca dei fatti, ma si dice che grazie alla bellezza del drappo ella ottenne la libertà. Rimanendo sui passi delle Grotte is Janas un altro rito scorre nel cuore di Sadali. Si tratta dell’affascinante cascata di San Valentino, unica nel suo genere poiché è la sola a sgorgare all’interno di un centro abitato, ma accomunata ai mille

corsi d’acqua sardi per via di riti pagani che ancora oggi, in alcune zone della Barbagia, danno vita a preghiere e cori. Menhir, nuraghe e domus de Janas intessono fascinazioni ancestrali e oniriche in Marghine, Ogliastra e Baronia. Mentre lungo le rotte di Quartu Sant'Elena, Villacidro e Iglesias l’arte etrusca sopravvive nei gioielli in filigrana d’oro e d’argento, che scandiscono i momenti più importanti della vita femminile. Dietro la trama sottile di ghirigori e intarsiature di questi oggetti di charme, si cela la natura degli amuleti: creati per proteggersi dalle malignità (come il malocchio e la jettatura) e ancora oggi in uso.
Tra i culti culinari che incipriano di odori le case sarde, quello più caratteristico si consuma d’estate, sospesi tra un bacio di cielo e mare nell’isolotto di San Pietro, in località Carloforte. Uno scrosciare di preghiere, reti e riti anima i pescatori con la saggezza che fu degli antichi etruschi, fenici, romani e spagnoli, protetti da massi di roccia vulcanica: marinai o mostri pietrificati da San Pietro per proteggere l’isola. La parola fine si trova incisa tra note ipnotiche del Canto a tenore, il cui suono altalenante, deciso e intriso di tradizioni è stato dichiarato Patrimonio Immateriale dell’Umanità. 27

The land carved by fairies. A journey to Sardinia among fascinating ancestral dreams If magic was a place it would be accessible from the hanging steps that gently convey in the living room made of stalagmites, the Grotte (caves) Is Janas. Located in the area of Sadali, about an hour and a half from Cagliari, you can reach them after passing through a lush oaks forest, once denser and animated by the ticking of the frames of the fairies, who started living in this place. If you look carefully, in fact, you can see their shapes after a few steps in that rock tangle called S’Omu de is Janas. According to the legend the three mythological creatures who lived there were petrified for divine justice, after killing a friar who complained for preparing pancakes during Lent. Perhaps it was in places like this that the art of weaving refined, very common especially among the lively streets of Mogoro, where with dedication women weave tapestries on the balconies of the houses during the Corpus Christi procession. The needle pierces the fabric weave embellishing it with lumps and grains that turn into flowers, geometric shapes and unicorns. The same magic can be traced along the diamond crossed fringes which elegantly decorate the triangular shawls of Oliena, while the Iberian influence pours entirely within 28

According to the story, passed on from generation to generation, it was invented by a woman sentenced to life imprisonment and every punto nodo (kind of embroidery) corresponds to a rosary bead. Priestess of rock, Chicago activist, poet, wild shaman, there are many labels used to define her. But Patti Smith is Patti Smith: charismatic protagonist of t h e h i s tory of music from the late 60s till today. It was in 1975, when she released her first album Horses for Arista Records, produced by John Cale. Forty years later, here it comes the world tour to celebrate this record that marks the entrance of a new musical language, still surprisingly relevant. Horses is, in fact, a milestone that has influenced many musicians, like Michael Stipe: the future leader of Rem. From Gloria, cover of the song by Van Morrison, to Redondo Beach characterized by reggae rhythm, to the 9 minutes of Birdland, vocal, piano and guitar suite. Viaggi al 2030 Si arriverà alla soglia dei due miliardi di turisti Entro il 2030 i turisti raggiungeranno quota 1,8 miliardi. È questa la previsione stilata dal UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) circa il turismo mondiale a lungo termine. Intanto un nuovo record sembra prospettarsi per il 2014 che, con un incremento stabile del 5% arriverà a superare il miliardo di transiti (considerando che il mese di ottobre si è concluso con 978 milioni). Un dato che lascia emergere l’importanza del viaggio, inteso senz’altro come fonte di svago e benessere, ma anche come risorsa economica. Una maggiore crescita turistica si è registrata in America, ma la più visitata resta l’Europa: con la Francia al primo posto e la Spagna al terzo. L’Italia, pur essendo quinta, recupera con la classifica di Lonely Planet, che inserisce Milano al terzo posto tra le destinazioni mondiali. Un dato che ben si sposa col primato gastronomico italiano, visto che la città meneghina ospita Expo 2015.

Dopo una breve sosta nell’anticamera in penombra, necessaria per far capire le regole, ci si lascia guidare da uno dei camerieri (agilissimi a muoversi nell’oscurità e quasi tutti non vedenti) e ci si accomoda al tavolo. Sono proibiti cellulari, macchine fotografiche, accendini e persino il display dell’orologio. Non saprete esattamente cosa vi sarà servito, se non che si tratti di un menù vegetariano, a base di carne, pesce o a scelta dello chef. Tutto vi sarà svelato alla fine, in modo che la vista non condizioni l’olfatto e il gusto!

70 anni di film per celebrare la produzione tra il 1937 e il 1989 by Marco Spagnoli

entre si girano a Roma i film 007 - Spectre; Ben Hur e Zoolander 2 la parte espositiva di Cinecittà si amplia con un nuovo percorso aperto al pubblico intitolato Girando a Cinecittà: 1937-1989. La mostra racconta dall’anno della fondazione di Cinecittà (1937 appunto), la storia delle produzioni più importanti che nei decenni si sono susseguite negli Studios e che parallelamente hanno costituito la storia del cinema e dei generi cinematografici: peplum, commedia all’italiana, spaghetti western, polizieschi e kolossal. Attraverso la suggestione di scenografie che arricchiscono e caratterizzano ciascun ambiente, si arriva al periodo della commedia all’italiana: con l’allestimento che richiama il film I Soliti Ignoti, ci si immerge in uno dei più prolifici periodi di produzione filmica italiana che ha visto fiorire i nomi di tanti comici, interpreti e dive come Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Silvana Mangano. Attori ed attrici che, insieme a tanti altri di quel periodo, hanno reso

celebre il cinema italiano nel mondo. Shooting in Cinecittà. 70 years of films to celebrate the production between 1937 and 1989 While in Rome the films 007 - Spectre; Ben Hur and Zoolander 2 are being shot, the exhibition part of Cinecittà becomes wider with a new itinerary opened to the public and entitled Shooting in Cinecittà: 19371989. The exhibition tells from 1937, the year when Cinecittà Studios were founded, the story of the most important productions that in the decades have followed each other and that meanwhile formed the history of films and t h e i r genres: peplum, Italian comedy, spaghetti westerns, thrillers and epic. Through the suggestion of scenes that enrich and characterize each environment, you get to the period of Italian comedy: with the setting that recalls the film Persons Unknown, you will be immersed in one of the most prolific periods in Italian film production in which so many comedians, performers and divas like Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Silvana Mangano were born.
Actors and actresses who, along with many others at the time, made the Italian cinema famous in the world. Back to the Future. Design according to Joe Colombo So innovative industrial design creations that they appear to come from the future. This is the feeling you get in front of Joe Colombo’s projects, created nearly 50 years ago. In the hands of Cesare (this was his first name) the objects of everyday life become icon, encapsulating an artistic soul who was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts and was an activist of the Nuclear Movement founded by his friends Sergio Dangelo and Enrico Baj in 1951. The adventure in the world of design is, partly, due to Bruno Munari, who, predicting the end of figurative art, persuades the brilliant Milanese to translate painting in the ideology of mass product. The difference, however, comes from the fact that he studied architecture and worked in his family’s factory, used as ‘playground’ to test the newly developed plastics such as ABS, PVC and polyeth-
ylene. In short, Joe Colombo has two faces, one of an artist and the other one of a technician, who merge to shape the personality of the founding father of Italian design, after whom the city of Milan has recently decided to name a street in the district of Porta Nuova. Visionary and hyperproductive, he signed the most memorable cult objects of the sixties: from the Universal Chair, the first to be formed with a single material, to the all-in-one Boby Trolley (still produced by B-Line), from the Colombo 281 lamp (currently made by Oluce in few and expensive specimens), to the prefabricated housing units, exposed at the MoMA in New York in 1972, a year after his untimely death in his early forties. It is amazing how his designs are still futuristic, designed for the human habitat of the future, where robots are not congenial but necessary.
Soluzioni di industrial design così innovative che sembrano provenire dal futuro. È questa la sensazione che si prova di fronte ai progetti di Joe Colombo, ideati quasi 50 anni fa. Nelle mani di Cesare (questo era il nome di battesimo) gli oggetti di uso comune si fanno icona, incapsulando un’anima creativa debitrice degli studi all’Accademia delle Belle Arti e della militanza nel Movimento Nucleare fondato nel 1951 dai suoi amici Enrico Baj e Sergio Dangelo. L’avventura nel mondo del design si deve, in parte, a Bruno Munari, che preconizzando la fine dell’arte figurativa, persuade il geniale meneghino a traslare la pittura nell’ideologia del prodotto di massa. A fare la differenza, però, sono gli studi di architettura e l’esperienza nella fabbrica di famiglia, usata come «parco giochi» per sperimentare le materie plastiche di nuova concezione come ABS, PVC e polietilene. Insomma, Joe Colombo ha due facce, una da artista e l’altra da tecnico, che si fondono a delineare la personalità del padre fondatore del design italiano, al quale il comune di Milano ha recentemente deciso di intitolare una strada nel quartiere di Porta Nuova. Visionario e iperproduttivo, ha firmato i più memorabili oggetti di culto degli anni Sessanta: dalla Sedia Universale, la prima ad essere plasmata con un unico materiale, al Boby Trolley all-in-one (prodotto ancora da B-Line), dalla lampada Colombo 281 (realizzata attualmente in pochi e costosi esemplari da Oluce), fino alle unità a b i t a t i v e p r e f a b b r i cate, esposte al MoMa di New York nel 1972, un anno dopo la prematura scomparsa poco più che quarantenne. A stupire, dei suoi progetti, è quanto questi siano futuribili ancora oggi: studiati per l’habitat umano del domani, in cui i robot non sono congeniali ma indispensabili. 43

Le sette ragioni per amare la Isla Blanca

biza non è solo discoteche e divertimento, la Isla Blanca, in Catalano Eivissa, ha anche altri sette ottimi motivi per amarla. Cultura, natura e gastronomia, qui si fondono come in nessun altro luogo al mondo. L’isola, che appartiene all’arcipelago delle Baleari, vanta infatti numerosi siti archeologici dichiarati Patrimonio dell’Umanità dall’UNESCO, come la necropoli fenicio-punica Puig Des Molins e le rovine di Sa Caleta a Sant Josep: importante testimonianza dell’urbanizzazione e della vita sociale delle colonie del 600 a.C. nel Mediterraneo occidentale. Di inestimabile bellezza sono anche la città vecchia Dalt Vila e le sue antiche mura, intrise di storia e fascino, che custodiscono al loro interno il Duomo e il Museo Archeologico. Le attività legate al tempo libero e al commercio si svolgono, invece, nella zona del Porto e nel quartiere La Marine. Nel mare che circonda Eivissa, adagiata sul fondale, si estende una enorme prateria di Posidonia Oceanica. È proprio questa pianta acqua46
tica che rende cristalline le coste Baleari ed è una specie protetta il cui habitat costituisce una riserva marina. L’oasi, oltre all’arbusto pelagico, ospita più di 220 specie animali minacciate a livello mondiale, come la Foca Monaca. La purezza dell’isola non riguarda solo il fondo del mare ma si estende anche sulla terraferma. Gli antichi Greci la chiamarono Pitiusas (Isola dei Pini) per l’immensa distesa verde che la ricopre durante tutto l’anno. Le tradizioni sono ancora forti, lungi dall’essere dimenticate e fungono da attrazione per i turisti di tutto il mondo. Gli antichi segreti degli artigiani locali vengono ancora tramandati, sopravvivendo anche ai giorni nostri e il ballo tradizionale di Ibiza, il ball pagès, può essere ammirato nelle piazze delle Chiese e in qualsiasi giornata di festa. La cultura del mangiar bene è particolarmente radicata negli abitanti di Ibiza, che hanno una vera e propria predilezione per gli alimenti freschi e genuini. I prodotti locali spaziano dalla cacciagione ai frutti di mare fino
alle verdure coltivate personalmente in piccoli orti. Piatti come il Sofrit Pagés (stufato contadino), il Guisat de Peix (pesce in umido) e l’Arroz de Matanzas (risotto di maialatura) riassumono perfettamente la cultura culinaria baleare e possono essere gustati in estrema serenità in location realmente uniche, con i piedi immersi nella sabbia o magari con il rumore delle onde in sottofondo. Eivissa offre un’ottima rete di trasporti pubblici comprendente autobus e traghetti che collegano le varie isole. I mezzi pubblici dell’Isla permettono di raggiungere i maggiori luoghi di interesse culturali, naturalistici e culinari in estrema facilità, ma è anche possibile noleggiare una vettura e spostarsi in libertà su tutto il territorio. Avendo una così curata rete di trasporti il luogo ideale dove alloggiare è senza dubbio la città principale, chiamata essa stessa Ibiza. Culture, nature and gastronomy come together here like nowhere else in the world. It is this water plant that makes the Balearic coasts crystal clear and it is a protected species whose habitat is a marine reserve. The oasis, in addition to the pelagic bush, hosts more than 220 animal species threatened worldwide, such as the Monk Seal. The purity of the island is not just about the bottom of the sea but i t a l s o ex tends to the mainland. The ancient Greeks called it Pitiusas (Isle of Pines) for the immense expanse of green that covers it all year round. Traditions are still strong, far from being forgotten and they function as an attraction for 48
tourists from around the world. The ancient secrets of the local artisans are still handed down, surviving to this day and the traditional dance of Ibiza, the ball pagès, can be seen in the Churches's squares and on any day of celebration. The culture of eating well is particularly well-established among the inhabitants of Ibiza, who have a real fondness for fresh and genuine food. Local products ranging from game to seafood to the vegetables personally grown in small gardens. Dishes like Sofrit Pagés (peasant stew), the Guisat de Peix (stewed fish) and Arroz de Matanzas (a rice dish with meat) summarize perfectly the Balearic culinary culture and can b e enjoyed in an extremely calm atmosphere in a truly unique location, with feet immersed in the sand, or perhaps with the waves in the background. on credo che la Los Angeles di quegli anni esista ancora se non, forse, in piccola parte. Certo esiste un mito hippie che non morirà mai e che ha profondamente influenzato la cultura americana moderna.» Joaquin Phoenix è molto diretto e sincero: parlando del suo ruolo di Larry Doc Sportello in Vizio di Forma tratto dal romanzo di Thomas Pynchon, il primo mai portato sul grande schermo dello scrittore in odore di Nobel, non può non pensare alla città raccontata nel romanzo. «Il regista Paul Thomas Anderson è nato a Los Angeles e il film parla di un’era diversa non solo della città, ma anche della politica del mio paese.»

Il mito hippie cosa rappresenta? «Un’idea di libertà che non morirà mai e che sopravvive in forme differenti. Basti pensare che mio nipote va ad una scuola serissima, ma che, al tempo stesso, della cultura hippie ha fatto sua un’idea molto libera di educazione e di espressione di se stessi.» Lei ha detto che Vizio di Forma è anche un romanzo ed un film sulla paranoia degli anni Settanta… «Sa qual è il problema di fare interviste: che spesso arrivi da un paese all’altro con il jet lag, sono le otto di mattina e qualcuno ti fa una domanda che non capisci bene. Poi, mesi dopo, scopri di avere detto delle immani sciocchezze… Francamente non ricordo di averlo detto, né di averci nemmeno mai pensato… se, però, è sul giornale, forse, sarà vero…» Il senso dell’umorismo del personaggio è perfetto per lo sguardo disincantato su un’epoca lacerata dalle contraddizioni… «Pynchon e quindi anche Paul Thomas Anderson utilizzano lo humour per affrontare tematiche importanti e, forse, difficili da fare nostre con un altro tipo di approccio. Eravamo molto coscienti della sua importanza e in ogni scena abbiamo cercato di trovare il suo lato più umoristico.» 51

INTERVIEW A questo punto della sua carriera come sceglie i ruoli da interpretare? «È difficile rispondere: è come chiedersi in che modo si sceglie di innamorarsi, ad un certo punto della propria vita. Mi baso sull’istinto e
sull’esperienza. Leggo le sceneggiature e capisco se è il caso di dedicare loro del tempo. Tendenzialmente cerco di evitare i cliché e le storie già raccontate e viste un milione di volte: in particolare non mi piacciono i dialoghi che nessuno pro-
nuncerebbe nella vita reale. Perché uno dovrebbe voler recitare in una storia che non sembra reale e che non è nemmeno verosimile? Cerco storie che catturino l’umanità che incontro durante la mia vita in giro per il mondo.»

My search for stories that speak about the people I meet around the world Interview with Joaquin Phoenix ‘I don’t think that the Los Angeles of those years still exists except, perhaps, in a small way. Certainly there is a hippie myth that will never die and that has profoundly influenced modern American culture.’ Joaquin Phoenix is very direct and honest when talking about his role as Larry Doc Sportello in Inherent Vice based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, the first ever brought to the cinema by the writer likely to win the Nobel, he can not help but thinking of the city represented in the novel. ‘The director Paul Thomas Anderson was born in Los Angeles and the film is about a different era not only for the city, but also for the politics of my country.’ What does the hippie myth represent? ‘An idea of freedom that will never die and that survives in different forms. Consider that my grandson goes to a very 52
strict school, but, which, at the same time, considers the hippie culture a very free idea of education and expression of themselves.’ You said that Inherent Vice is also a novel and a film about paranoia in the seventies... ‘You know what the problem of doing interviews is: that you often come from one country to another with jet lag, it’s eight o’clock in the morning and someone asks you a question that you don’t understand properly. Then, months later, you find out you talked nonsense... Frankly I don’t remember having said that, neither of ever even thinking about it... if, however, it is written on the newspaper, perhaps, it’s true...’ The humour of the character is perfect for the discerning eye of an era t o r n b y contradictions... ‘Pynchon and therefore Paul Thomas
Anderson use humour to face important issues and, perhaps, difficult to make our own with another type of approach. We were very conscious of its importance and in every scene we tried to find its most humorous side.’ At this point of your career how do you choose which roles to play? ‘It’s difficult to answer: it’s like asking how you choose to fall in love at some point in your life. I rely on instinct and experience. I read the scripts and I understand if I should dedicate them my time. Basically I try to avoid the preconceptions and the stories told and seen a million times: in particular I don’t like conversations you wouldn’t really do in real life. Why would anyone want to play in a story that doesn’t seem real, and that is not even credible? I am looking for stories that capture the humanity I meet during my life around the world.’

ella settimana dal 2 al 7 marzo sono stati eseguiti importanti lavori di riqualificazione della pista dell’Aeroporto Olbia Costa Smeralda che hanno reso necessaria, per la prima volta nella quarantennale storia dello scalo, una sospensione delle attività di volo durata sei giorni. Le condizioni metereologiche avverse registrate durante la settimana non hanno influito sui programmi delle lavorazione, i quali sono stati eseguiti dalla ditta Vitali di Bergamo sotto la direzione del progettista Ing. Felice Boneddu. Imponente l’organizzazione schierata per la ristrutturazione degli oltre 35.000 mq di pista, 2.500 metri cubi d’asfalto e 7.000 mt di cavi per le luci pista composta da circa cento unità fra tecnici e operai specializzati, i quali hanno lavorato incessantemente su turni da 8h per una copertura h24. La ditta Vitali per garantire il completamento dei lavori nei tempi previsti ha schierato 100 macchine operatrici di ultimissima generazione. In linea con la propria politica d’integrazione dell’Aeroporto con il territorio e al fine di mantenere vivo lo scalo durante il periodo di interruzione delle attività di volo la Geasar, società di gestione dell’Aeroporto di Olbia, ha organizzato Fairport, una rassegna di
eventi e manifestazioni a beneficio degli esercizi commerciali, dei ristoranti, dei bar, degli uffici e dell’università del turismo ospitata nei locali dell’aerostazione. L’evento ha dato l’opportunità ai numerosi operatori del territorio di mettere in mostra prodotti e servizi di grande interesse. Allo stesso tempo, è stata un’occasione unica per la città di vivere il proprio scalo come centro di aggregazione e di svago. L’iniziativa ha riscontrato un successo ben oltre le aspettative. Nelle tre giornate di eventi migliaia di visitatori, circa 9.000, hanno affollato l’Aeroporto Costa Smeralda, animato per l’occasione dai numerosi eventi culturali, tecnologi, sportivi ed enogastronomici. Stand di associazioni di volontariato, concerti estemporanei, mostre di artisti e il Figari Film Festival con la proiezione di interessanti cortometraggi. Ammiratissima l’esposizione delle oltre 85 moto Vespa d’epoca: dalle «faro basso» di Vacanze Romane ai più recenti PX degli anni ’80, dalle Vespa 400 all’Ape Calessino fino ad arrivare al trattorino della Piaggio perfettamente restaurato. Grande successo anche per gli stand dedicati alla tecnologia. In particolare,
l’esposizione dei droni messa in piedi da operatori professionisti e certificati ENAC, oltre alla presentazione della magica stampa in 3D a cura di FABlab Olbia, il tutto arricchito da seminari e corsi di formazione. L’area dei check, trasformata per l’occasione in campo sportivo e attrezzata con un campo da pallacanestro di dimensioni regolamentari, ha ospitato tutti gli eventi sportivi: dal basket, all’arrampicata, vela, tennis da tavolo e open day delle palestre: dalla Zumba al Crossfit passando per il Pilates, il tutto arricchito da una sfilata finale di atleti di Body Building. Il percorso si è snodato tra i vari spazi food & beverage, dove è stato inoltre possibile assistere alla preparazione di piatti elaborati al momento da rinomati chef regionali e alla degustazione di birre sarde artigianali del birrificio Barley. Per quanto riguarda la componente enologica, una deliziosa degustazione è stata organizzata dal Consorzio di tutela del Vermentino in collaborazione con diversi sommelier del territorio. Ad arricchire ulteriormente l’evento la presenza di Radio Internazionale che, con una postazione fissa al centro dell’aerostazione, ha raccontato in diretta tutti gli eventi. 61

FAIRPORT From March 2 to 7 some important works for the redevelopment of the runway at the Olbia Costa Smeralda airport were carried out, which justified, for the first time in forty-year history of the airport, a suspension of the flight for six days. The bad weather conditions during the week did not affect the working plans, which were performed by the Vitali company of Bergamo under the direction of its designer engineer Felice Boneddu. The organization deployed for the renovation of the over 35,000-square-meters runway was impressive: 2,500 cubic meters of asphalt and 7,000 mt of cables for the runway lighting with about one hundred people consisting of technicians and skilled workers, who have worked tirelessly in 8hr shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. The Vitali company has deployed 100 machines of the latest generation to ensure the completion of the work on time. In line with its policy of integration of the territory of the Airport and in order to keep the airport alive during the working period, Geasar, Olbia Airport’s management company, has organized Fairport a 62
series of events for the benefit of shops, restaurants, bars, offices and the University of tourism in the air terminal. The event gave the opportunity to many professionals in the area to exhibit products and interesting services. At the same time, it was a unique opportunity for the city to live the airport as a gathering and entertaining place. The initiative has been really successful, beyond expectation. In three days of events thousands of visitors, about 9,000, have crowded into the Costa Smeralda Airport, animated for the occasion by many cultural, technological, sport, food and wine events. Voluntary associations, impromptu concerts, art exhibitions and the Figari Film Festival with the screening of interesting short films. The exhibition of over 85 vintage Vespa motorcycles was really successful: from the ‘low beam headlight’ model seen in Roman Holiday to the latest PX of the 80s, from Vespa 400 to the Ape Calessino up to the perfectly restored Piaggio tractor. Great success also for the stands dedi-
cated to technology. In particular, the exhibition of drones organized by certified professional ENAC, in addition to the presentation of the magical 3D printing by FABLab Olbia, all enriched by seminars and training courses. The check-in area, turned for the occasion into a sport field and equipped with a regular size basketball court, hosted all sporting events, from basketball, climbing, sailing, table tennis and gyms’ open day: from Zumba to Crossfit through Pilates, all enriched by a final parade of Body Building athletes. The itinerary was articulated among the various food & beverage spaces, where it was also possible to see the live preparation of dishes by renowned regional chefs and tasting Sardinian craft beers from the Barley Brewery. As for the wine component, a delicious tasting was organized by the Consorzio di tutela del Vermentino in collaboration with several local sommelier. The presence of Radio International increased the importance of the event, telling all the events live, with a fixed location in the centre of the airport.

A volte i risultati di queste ricerche sono davvero sorprendenti. A febbraio 2015, in un test sperimentale diretto dalla Southwest University in Cina, sono stati scansionati i cervelli di 100 studenti, alcuni dei quali disperatamente innamorati. Gli esiti degli esami sono stati analizzati attentamente mostrando come il sen-
timento effettivamente alteri le attività neuronali di alcune regioni specifiche. La nostra mente, infatti, è uno strumento molto potente, come ha dimostrato la Darpa – l’agenzia statunitense che si occupa di ricerca avanzata nel settore della difesa – mettendo a punto due elettrodi che, se impiantati in particolari aree del cranio, riescono a tramutare l’elettricità generata dall’encefalo in segnali comprensibili per un computer. Il risultato? La possibilità
di azionare strumenti robotici semplicemente con la «forza del pensiero». Ma non solo, perché a breve, molto probabilmente, grazie ai prototipi costruiti dai ricercatori Tobii Pro, si potrà comunicare con un calcolatore tramite il tracciamento delle pupille. In february 2015, in an experimental test lead by Southwest Univeristy of China, the brains of 100 students were scanned, some of whom desperately in love. Salvare il Pianeta? Ecco la roadmap del WWF (IRENA: International Renewable Energy Agency - www.irena.org)
E se l’economia fosse eco-sostenibile? Si genererebbero oltre 20 milioni di posti di lavoro entro il 2020. Stando alle dichiarazioni degli economisti del WWF, divulgate di recente nel rapporto Dalla crisi all’opportunità: cinque passi verso economie Europee sostenibili, sarebbe un futuro possibile, se solo si imparasse a tutelare il capitale naturale, anziché minacciarlo continuamente con l’intervento umano. Come? Il WWF ha pensato ad una roadmap. «Invece di perseguire il solito trend di crescita ‘che prima inquina poi pulisce’» bisognerebbe potenziare lo sviluppo di energie rinnovabili – dice Sébastien Godinot, economista del WWF e principale autore del trattato –; ridurre le emissioni di CO2 attraverso delle politiche fiscali e finanziarie che eliminino i sussidi ai combustibili fossili ed inseriscano le tasse sull’utilizzo delle risorse e i danni all’ambiente; gestire le risorse con l’applicazione di una Circular Economy che riduca gli scarti. Nel periodo dell’Antropocene, in cui l’intervento umano sta producendo effetti equivalenti alle grandi forze della natura che hanno modellato il Pianeta stesso, seguire queste regole è essenziale ad iniziare un percorso che entro il 2050 porti a scalzare la vecchia economia e a vivere in un mondo in cui Pil non sarà l’unico indicatore di benessere.

According to WWF economists’ statements, recently disclosed in the report From crisis to opportunity: five steps to sustainable European economies, it would be a possible future, if only we learned to protect our environmental heritage rather than threaten it constantly with human intervention. the WWF roadmap. ‘Instead of pursuing the usual growth trend that pollutes first and cleans then’, we should enhance the development of renewable energy - says Sébastien Godinot, WWF economist and principal author of the treaty -; reduce CO2 emissions through fiscal and financial policies that will eliminate subsidies to fossil fuels and will incorporate taxes on resource usage and environmental
damage; manage resources with the application of a Circular Economy that will reduce waste. During Anthropocene, where human intervention produces effects equivalent to the great forces of nature that shaped the planet itself, following these rules is essential to begin a process that by 2050 will take us to remove the old economy and live in a world where GDP is not the only poverty index.

a luce della primavera, il profumo del mare e dei fiori portato dal vento, questo è il dolce risveglio che Ischia dona al suo visitatore. La giornata comincia con cornetto e caffè al bar Calise, un po’ di shopping veloce nei negozietti della zona Porto al corso Vittoria Colonna, e poi finalmente in spiaggia. Dove andiamo oggi? Vista la stagione non ancora inoltrata l’indirizzo ideale è Sant’Angelo, piccolo borgo di pescatori e rinomata meta del turismo internazionale. Se il tempo lo permette in dieci minuti di cammino si raggiungono le Fumarole della spiaggia dei Maronti: si tratta di una zona termale dove da secoli il respiro di Tifeo fuoriesce dalle profondità della terra. Nuvole di vapore si sprigionano nell’ambiente esterno e nel mare bolle di gas raggiungono la temperatura di 100°. Si può decidere se rimanere spettatori e assistere alla magia dell’evento, oppure godere direttamente delle proprietà dei fenomeni termali che aumentano il benessere del corpo: scavatevi con le mani un giaciglio e immergetevi in un bagno di sabbia calda. I meno audaci potranno rimanere nel porticciolo a godersi la piaz68
zetta del borgo circondata da un suggestivo grappolo di case, magari assaporando una fetta di torta al Bar del Pescatore. La giornata prosegue con qualche ora di relax e una passeggiata a Forio prima del calar del sole. Ancora un po’ di shopping lungo il corso tra negozietti di abbigliamento, artigianato locale e botteghe di enogastronomia, fino all’ora giusta per ammirare il tramonto dalla chiesa del Soccorso. Per cena si può scegliere tra specialità di mare o di terra assaporando il famoso coniglio all’ischitana che si mangia nel comune di Panza o raffinati piatti di pesce preparati negli esclusivi ristoranti dell’isola. Chi preferisce fare solo uno spuntino può provare la mitica “zingara” (crostone di pane cafone ripieno di mozzarella, prosciutto crudo, pomodoro, lattuga e maionese) servito nei pub a ridosso del porto. La serata si prolunga con un cocktail nei lounge bar della Riva Destra, luogo d’elezione della vita notturna, e chi è in cerca di follie può riservarsi un ingresso al night club Il Valentino. The day starts with a croissant and a coffee at the bar Calise, some fast shopping in the port area in Corso Vittorio Colonna and then finally at the beach. Where are we going today? Given the season, the ideal address is Sant'Angelo, a small fishing village and popular international tourism destination. Weather permitting, in a seventeen-minute walk you can reach the fumaroles on Maronti's beach: it is a watering area where for centuries Tifeo's breath has emerged from the depths of the earth. Clouds of steam burst out and in the sea bubbles of gas reach temperatures of 100°. You may decide to stay and assist as spectators to the magic of the event, or directly enjoy the healing properties of the thermal phenomena that increase your body wellness: dig with your hands and soak in a bath of hot sand. The least daring can stay in the marina and enjoy the Piazzetta of the village surrounded by a

Passeggiata a Sorrento i luoghi insoliti da non perdere

on solo aranceti, oliveti e limonaie che si affacciano sul panorama mozzafiato del golfo di Napoli, Sorrento è anche storia, arte e cultura, nascosta all’interno dei colorati vicoli tra chiostri e palazzi nobiliari, dove rivivono i fasti di ricche famiglie e antichi mestieri. Ecco tre luoghi insoliti da visitare durante una passeggiata in città. Museo Correale In pieno centro cittadino all’interno di Villa Rota è custodito un tesoro fatto di intarsi, arredamenti e raffinate manifatture europee ed orientali. Si tratta del Museo Correale, nato dalla volontà degli ultimi discendenti di una storica famiglia sorrentina. Passeggiando tra le stanze il visitatore è trasportato indietro nel tempo potendo ammirare reperti archeologici della zona, manifatture di pregio realizzate tra il XVI e il XIX secolo come le fini porcellane, la collezione di orologi e gli intarsi lignei. All’esterno della villa si estende un meraviglioso giardino, una delle aree verdi più belle e ricche di Sorrento. Chiostro di San Francesco Accanto alla Villa Comunale che si affaccia a strapiombo sul mare, c’è il suggestivo chiostro di San Francesco. La particolarità del luogo è l’architettura che fonde uno stile trecentesco con stili di epoche successive, inglobando anche resti provenienti da templi pagani e materiali di antichi insediamenti. Il chiostro – avvolto da un’aurea mistica in netto contrasto con il caos dei turisi – è da diversi anni location ideale degli appuntamenti culturali della città.
Vallone dei Mulini Alle spalle di piazza Tasso si trova un affaccio a strapiombo dove sorgono i ruderi del Vallone dei Mulini. Da qui è visibile un antico mulino funzionante fino alla metà dell’800 con annessa una segheria alimentata dalle vicine acque. In passato il Vallone era frequentato da contadini e pescatori mentre oggi è un luogo abbandonato, che crea uno scenario incredibile, quasi spettrale: imponente ma in gran parte divorato dalla vegetazione, sembra proiettare uno spaccato immutato dell’antica vita della città. ideal location for the cultural events of the city for several years. Valley of the Mills Behind Piazza Tasso there is an overlooking cliff where the ruins of the Valley of the Mills lie. It is an old mill operating until the middle of XIX century with a sawmill powered by the nearby waters. In the past, the Valley was attended by farmers and fishermen while today it is an abandoned place, which creates an incredible and almost spooky scenery: impressive but largely hidden by vegetation, it seems to project an unchanged outline of the ancient city life. For its charm over the years it has inspired artists from around the world who have depicted it in paintings and photographs.

archi, natura selvaggia, mare turchese, panorami che si estendono a perdita d’occhio, ma soprattutto tanta tanta luce che dalla terra al cielo crea infinite sfumature di colore. Una visita in Kenya è fatta di esperienze, di ritorno alle radici attraverso la riscoperta della natura e l’immersione in antiche culture. C’è qualcosa di sacro nell’osservare il rito dei pescatori della costa che al mattino prendono il largo sui loro piccoli dhow e allo stesso tempo nell’ammirare i grandi mammiferi della savana che ogni giorno si spostano in massa 80
per assecondare il forte i s t i n t o d i sopravvivenza. In questi luoghi uomo, natura e animali convivono rispettandosi e nutrendosi reciprocamente. Atterrando a Mombasa la via più veloce per godere del mare è quella che raggiunge il tratto di costa a sud della città: Diani Beach. Si tratta di dieci chilometri di sabbia corallina che vanno dal Mwachema River a Chale Island, alternando lussuosi resort che si snodano lungo la Diani road ai piccoli villaggi rurali di Tiwi e Kinondo. Il turista che visita Diani Beach si trova in una posizione privilegiata,
potendo sia godere delle meraviglie dell’Oceano Indiano che concedersi un fuori programma avventuroso in uno dei meravigliosi parchi abitati dai Big Five. Un’esperienza fuori dai circuiti più battuti – come è il vicino Tsavo – è senza dubbio un mini tour nella valle dei laghi. Qui tutta la potenza della natura è visibile dall’alto in uno dei paesaggi più imponenti al mondo: la Rift Valley, un immenso corridoio, una spaccatura, che si estende per circa 5000 km dalla Siria al Mozambico. Emotions as far as the eye can see From Diani Beach to the Rift Valley: the infinite colour shades of Kenya Parks, wildlife, turquoise sea, views that stretch as far as the eye can see, but mostly lots and lots of light that from earth to heaven creates infinite colour shades. A visit to Kenya is made of experiences, returning to the roots through the rediscovery of nature and immersion in ancient cultures. There is something sacred in observing the ritual of the fishermen of the coast in the morning putting to sea on their small dhow and in the same way in admiring the large mammals of the savanna that every day move in mass to go along with their strong survival instinct. In these places, man, nature and animals live together respecting each other and feeding on each other. When landing in Mombasa the fastest way to enjoy the sea is the one that reaches the southern coast of the city: Diani Beach. It is constituted by five miles of coral sand going from Mwachema River to Chale Island, alternating luxurious resorts that wind along the Diani road and the small rural villages of Tiwi and Kinondo. Tourists visiting Diani Beach are fortunate, 82
because they are able to enjoy both the wonders of the Indian Ocean and an unscheduled adventure in one of the wonderful parks inhabited by the Big Five. An experience outside the most common itineraries - like the nearby Tsavo - is undoubtedly a mini tour in the valley lakes. Here all the power of nature is visible from the top in one of the most impressive landscapes in the world: the Rift Valley, an immense hall, a rift, which extends for about 5,000 km from Syria to Mozambique. The fault runs through the area in the middle of the great lakes of Kenya including the incredible ecosystem of Lake Nakuru (Lake Nakuru National Park). The park is characterized by lush vegetation sometimes swampy, where in addition to baboons, giraffes, lions, leopards, zebras, rhinos, hundreds of bird species live, and where between May and October you can see the impressive show of the pink flamingos. The lake is the home chosen by one of the colonies of the most populous species in the world that, feeding in the shallow and
alkaline water of the lake, creates a huge expanse turning the entire h o r i zo n p i n k . An unforgettable sight. With these words chef Antonello Colonna summarizes the work Liberi tutti, photographed by Israeli Dan Lev for the Colorfood project and on display at the Israeli Pavilion at Expo. The story of the artist-chef Colonna begins about 28 years ago with the Vecchia Osteria owned by his family: it was the time when there was an agribusiness state - he says - an ‘agropolitic’ moment during which the nouvelle cuisine entered by force on Italian tables, determining then the various vicissitudes and trends related to food intolerance, to ethical will, veganism and vegetarians. What do you want to communicate with Liberi tutti?
‘I simply mean that food is a choice; for some it has its religion, for others it is a political act, for others it is an exuberant object, but everyone can use what nature offers. I want to communicate the value of the choice: the freedom not to take positions, not to avail myself of certain respectability that does not belong to me anymore. I think everyone is entitled to his/her freedom, respecting the will of the food, also because food is joy.’ Chef, how does Rome influence your dishes? ‘I use the Roman countryside as a valuable grammar with which I always invent new syntax. An original language, but inspired by tradition. ‘Roman twist’, some would say. Certainly a kitchen made of harmonies and land, geometry and modernity.’
La storia dell’artista-chef Antonello Colonna inizia circa 28 anni fa con la Vecchia Osteria di famiglia: «era il periodo in cui vigeva uno stato agroalimentare – racconta – un momento ‘agropolitico’ in cui la nouvelle cousine entrava di prepotenza sulle tavole italiane, determinando poi le varie vicissitudini e le tendenze legate alle intolleranze alimentari, a volontà etiche, al veganismo e ai vegetariani». Cosa vuole comunicare con Liberi tutti? «Voglio semplicemente dire che il cibo è una scelta; per alcuni ha una sua religiosità, per altri è un atto politico, per altri ancora è un oggetto goliardico, ma tutti possono avvalersi di ciò che la natura ci offre. Voglio comunicare il valore della scelta: la libertà a non prendere posizioni, a non avvalermi di certi perbenismi che non mi appartengono più. Penso che ognuno abbia il diritto alla propria libertà, rispettando quelle che sono le volontà del cibo, anche perché, il cibo è gioia.» Chef, quanta Roma c’è nei suoi piatti? «Utilizzo la campagna romana come una grammatica preziosa con cui inventare sempre nuove sintassi. Un linguaggio originale, ma ispirato dalla tradizione. ‘Roman twist’, direbbe qualcuno. Certamente una cucina di armonie e di terra, di geometrie e modernità.» 85

Insalata tiepida di pollo bio sarde essiccate di Monte Isola, salsa verde, pop-corn di pollo Dosi per 4 persone PROCEDIMENTO. Fate bollire mezzo pollo bio in acqua con 1 gambo di sedano, 1 carota e 1 cipolla. Scolatelo, disossatelo e ottenete degli sfilacci di 3 cm massimo. Tagliare la pelle a cubetti, rosolatela in una pentola antiaderente a fuoco vivo con
sale e pepe fino ad ottenere bocconcini croccanti. Togliete dal fuoco e stendete su un panno assorbente. Preparate la salsa friggendo in 3 dl di olio di semi, 20 gr. di foglie di prezzemolo riccio, frullate 1 dl. di olio extravergine di oliva, ½ spicchio d’aglio, 1 cucchiaio di senape antica,
30 gr. di prezzemolo riccio e filtrate. Sfilettate, tagliate a listarelle e rosolate le sarde secche. Servite su un piatto caldo gli sfilacci di pollo ancora tiepidi, aggiungete le sarde, condite con la s a l s a , l e f o glie di prezzemolo f r i t t e e i p o p - corn di pelle.

4 servings PREPARATION. Boil half bio chicken in water with 1 celery stalk, 1 carrot and 1 onion. Drain, debone and get strips of 3 cm maximum. Cut the skin into cubes, brown it in a nonstick pan over high heat with salt and pepper until morsels become crispy. Remove from heat and spread on a cloth towel. Prepare the sauce by frying in 3 dl of vegetable oil 20 gr. leaves of curly parsley, blend 1 dl extra virgin olive oil, ½ garlic clove, 1 tablespoon ancient mustard, 30 gr. curly parsley and filter. Fillet, cut into strips and fry dried sardines. Serve on a warm plate chicken strips still warm, add the sardines, drizzle with the sauce, the fried parsley leaves and skin popcorns.

in dal 1851, anno della sua nascita a Londra, l’Esposizione Universale è stata il palcoscenico dei progetti più ambiziosi realizzati dall’uomo, sfide architettoniche e tecnologiche che ancora oggi visitiamo (basti pensare alla Torre Eiffel) come eredità lasciata ai paesi che hanno ospitato questa incredibile manifestazione. Quest’anno l’Expo approda nel Bel Pese, in particolare a Milano, dove si è concretizzata l’opportunità di riunire in un unico luogo tutti i paesi del mondo. Che cos’è L’Esposizione Universale non è un evento di carattere commerciale, ma il suo fine è educare e interpretare le nuove sfide che le popolazioni dell’intero pianeta si trovano a dover affrontare. Nel contesto di crisi globale che ci coinvolge tutti, dai cambiamenti del clima all’esaurimento delle risorse energetiche, il tema scelto e rappresentato ad Expo Milano 2015 è l’alimentazione e più precisamente: Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita. Il concetto di lusso è cambiato. Da un consumo di possesso – per intenderci oggetti status symbol c o m e a u t o fuoriserie o abiti di haute couture – l’asse si è spostato verso un consumo di tipo esperienziale. I trend individuati dal Censis, nella ricerca commissionata da Ornellaia, sono confermati anche dalla stampa internazionale, che indica come portabandiera dell’eccellenza Made in Italy i settori dell’hospitality e della produzione agroalimentare ed enologica. Un’attrattiva di prim’ordine, quest’ultima, secondo Financial Times e Die Welt, che colloca il nostro paese al primo posto tra le destinazioni mondiali dell’«emotional» luxury tourism. A fare la differenza è l’affascinante mondo dei top wine. Se nel 2014 i vini di pregio battuti nelle aste internazionali sono aumentati sia in quantità sia in valore di un 13%; quelli della moderna Enotria, in particolare, sono volati al +47%,
«superando» i francesi (-1%) per prezzi di battitura. Le etichette top quality sono oggi il nuovo «must» del percepito del lusso. E l’Italia può vantare alcuni tra gli esemplari più pregiati al mondo secondo Handesblatt e Le Figaro. Luxury consumption: when emotion wins on possession The concept of luxury has changed. From a possess consumption - for instance status symbol objects like custom-built cars or haute couture clothing - the axis has shifted towards a real ex p e r i e n t i a l consumption. The trends identified by Censis, research commissioned by Ornellaia, are also confirmed by the international press, which indicates as bearers of Made in Italy excellence the sectors of the hospitality
and food and wine production. An important attraction, the latter,according to the Financial Times and Die Welt, which places our country in the first place among the world destinations for ‘emotional’ luxury tourism. What makes the difference is the fascinating world of top wine. If in 2014 the fine wines sold at international auctions increased both in quantity and in value of 13%; those of modern Eno-
tria, in particular, flew to +47%, ‘overcoming’ the French (-1%) as regards hammer prices. Top quality labels are now the new ‘must’ of the perceived luxury. And Italy can boast some of the finest examples in the world according to Handesblatt and Le Figaro. La Fiat 500 Vintage ’57 rilegge in chiave contemporanea alcuni stilemi che hanno reso indimenticabile l’iconica autovettura italiana degli anni ’60 e ’70. A iniziare dal colore di carrozzeria azzurro pastello e la selleria in pelle Frau Sfila sulla passerella ginevrina la Fiat 500 Vintage ’57 che rende omaggio all’iconica autovettura Made in Italy attraverso la rilettura contemporanea di alcuni stilemi che l’hanno resa famosa negli anni ’60 e ’70.
