WA L I D S A I D Business and Theater Studies double major Junior | Amman, Jordan Walid likes his double major in theater studies and business because they are so different from each other. “My goal is to be able to think in a variety of ways so that I can have a unique perspective on many different things that come my way.”

N AO M I N E W T O N Biology and Music double major Senior | Royal Palm Beach, Florida Naomi believed pursuing a career in medicine meant her love of the performing arts would go unrequited in college. “I had incorrectly assumed that music and drama would take a backseat.” During the application process, Emory music professor Bradley Howard encouraged her to do both. “I was impressed by the fact that a professor at a
university like Emory would take the time to personally reach out to students like me to provide encouragement and advice.” Emory undergraduates are fortunate to have some of the nation’s best scholars and researchers as their full-time professors. Naomi’s connections with Emory faculty have allowed her

LEIGH SCHLECHT English and Creative Writing Freshman | Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin A second-semester freshman and Emory Scholar, Leigh has hit the ground running. She’s joined club tennis, women’s Ultimate Frisbee, and the Emory Swing Club. She even snagged a paid position in the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, which holds Emory’s special collections. “It is a remarkable chance to be directly involved in fields that I am passionate about, and I learned about it my first day on campus,” she says.
Leigh chose Emory because of the positive energy she found here. On her campus tour, “every student was happy to help me find a building or talk to me about why they chose Emory,” she says. Her first impressions have held up. “I have found that students at Emory view the university as a community rather than as competition.”
She eagerly joins her new friends in exploring Emory’s hometown of Atlanta. A trip to Music Midtown, a fall concert festival with headliners such as Drake and Elton John, was a great start.

N OA H CO L E Political Science and Media Studies double major Junior | Rancho Cucamonga, California Noah’s high school AP Government class spiked an interest in politics. “Political science seemed like an easy choice for me going into college because I have always had an interest in leadership, and the link between leadership and politics suits my interests.” Noah was undeniably a leader at Oxford College,
where he was Student Government president sophomore year. Oxford is located in Newton County, about 38 miles from Atlanta. County leaders invited Noah to return in January to give the keynote speech at their Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration. Now on Emory’s Atlanta campus, he leads his peers as a residence hall adviser.
He discovered Oxford— the last stop on an East Coast college tour—the summer before senior year. “I fell in love with it almost immediately,” he says. “It’s absolutely one of the most unique college programs in the US, and those who are fortunate enough to be a part of it are among the lucky few.”
