Emory graduates creative thinkers, problem solvers, and leaders. So you’ll be prepared for today’s world. Gain skills as well as knowledge At Emory College, our Nature of Evidence curriculum trains you to use evidence as you learn—regardless of major— leading to fine-tuned observational and reasoning skills. Through inquiry-guided, service learning, and travel courses, Oxford College faculty create interactive and highly participatory classes, and students learn in realworld settings as well as in the classroom. The Goizueta Business School curriculum builds in flexibility to allow for traditional and customized approaches to learning, with unique concentrations and course work that takes place inside and outside of school. In the School of Nursing, students learn by doing, either by service trips to underserved communities or by clinical placement at more than 500 sites in the Atlanta area or around the world.

Our inventive teaching, innovative majors, and experience-based learning will get you ready. Great classes from day one We introduce first-year students to our way of thinking right away with First-Year Seminars. They’re small (most fewer than 20 students) and interdisciplinary, and their topics connect to the world around us. Plus, each one is designed by its professor, making for a unique curriculum and dynamic teaching. Just a few of our First-Year Seminars

The Past, Present, and Future of Food and Population • How to Interpret Behavior That You Did Not See • Social Movements and the Media • The Mad Russian • Pilgrimage and Tourism • The 12 Caesars: Sex, Lies, and Politics in Ancient Rome • The Economics of Sports • Illusions and Reaction Times Teaching that makes ideas click Interdisciplinary majors like quantitative sciences and human health integrate diverse fields—like humanities, sciences, and business— to take a more comprehensive look at topics that inspire you. And our Nature of Evidence curriculum—which spans all majors—will train you to use evidence as you learn, leading to highly developed reasoning and informed problem-solving skills. Experience that makes your major more At Emory, learning inspires and also gets you ready for life after graduation. Your major will benefit from our focus on experience— internships, study abroad, and research—and you (and future you) will be prepared for your next step. APPLY.EMORY.EDU

CASSANDR A QUAVE Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Human Health, Emory College Curator of the Emory University Herbarium What Assistant Professor Cassandra Quave likes most about teaching Emory students is “their passion for learning and desire to make the world a better place.” She takes on this mission herself through her research, which looks to traditional medicine to find ways to discover novel antibiotics from nature. Quave loves teaching Botanical Medicine and Health (a favorite of juniors), which brings together chemistry, biology, and anthropology. “It’s fun to share my passion for plants with students and teach them about the many amazing medicines that have been discovered from nature.” Ken Ono tells it like it is Ono, who is Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Mathematics, specializes in number theory and has unlocked breakthrough theories about partition numbers.

A COMMUNITY

you keep

Emory was founded on the Oxford campus more than 180 years ago. It’s where a small-town college shaped a generation of leaders before moving to Atlanta and becoming a full-fledged university. Grounded in this history, today Oxford College is known for its excellent teaching by faculty who become mentors, extraordinary leadership opportunities for first- and second-year students, challenging and innovative curriculum, and close-knit student body. It’s where you’ll get the best of both worlds—the resources of a major research university along with the benefits of a small liberal arts setting.

The places you will go After your first two years at Oxford, your next stop is Emory’s Atlanta campus, where you’ll join the rest of your class to complete your studies in Emory College, Goizueta Business School, or the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Most Oxford students are very familiar with the Atlanta campus before they arrive as juniors, where they continue to stand out as leaders inside and outside the classroom. DETOUR TOWARD the unexpected

There’s more than one way to learn Who’s to say that you can’t have fun, make great friends with your classmates—and professors—and still learn at the same time? At Oxford, you can. That’s because our community values closeness and friendliness as well as the serious pursuit of knowledge. Classes are small (86% have fewer than 30 students) and teaching is exemplary. You won’t find garden-variety here. Learn and do more Teachers and students are collaborators in learning at Oxford. Courses that prompt students to think differently or act differently—doing rather than passively listening—are the norm. Students find professors easy to approach. As a result, they jump right into learning—readily connecting with their professors and classmates, engaging with the readings and classwork, and speaking up in class.

All of those possibilities are reasons to love it,” she says.

You’ll find a skeleton or two in our closet where campus traditions are concerned. (That would be Dooley, the Lord of Misrule.) But our sense of spirit and camaraderie can’t be measured. There are many uniquely Oxford events found here. Who knows? You might create a tradition or two of your own before you leave. Where leaders are made With only first- and second-year students at Oxford, you can step into leadership positions as soon as you arrive. More than 60% of students hold a leadership position in a campus organization at Oxford. Our 900+ students performed more than 10,000 hours of service in 2015–2016.
