You’ve decided to package your famous homemade essential oil body products into gifts this year. Now you need to choose the right containers for the different types of products.
PET Plastic containers PET products can handle products with essential oil well. They do wear down though, so they should be replaced or recycled often.
You know they have to be safe so they don’t contaminate the non-toxic recipe. It can be tricky but this guide will point you in the right direction. Choose the right container for the specific recipe. This list contains the type of materials you should choose. Glass Glass containers and spray bottles are the right choice if your product won’t be used in a diaper bag or where young hands can get to them. Don’t use glass in places where wet hands will be handling it, such as a body scrub in the shower. Glass is non-porous so it holds up to just about every ingredient. It won’t absorb the oils and scents from your essential oils and other ingredients. Stainless steel Stainless steel works for many recipes. It won’t absorb essential oil the way aluminum does. It can be used in almost any application including around water. Look for ones with airtight lids.
Types of Containers: 1. Bottles with spritzer tops are good for body sprays and room refreshers. They come in many shapes and sizes.
2. Small mason jars with lids are perfect for body lotion, hand cream or beard balm and feet or face scrubs. The screw on tops prevent spillage and can be reused. 3. Glass roller bottles are good for homemade perfumes. The amber or dark colored bottles are best for maintaining the integrity of your recipe. 4. Small tins are used for balms, lotions, oils. 5. Plastic tubes can be used for lip balm or DIY Bug repellent. The material and type of container you choose depends on what your product will be used for. Wet, slippery use may not be the best choice for a glass bottle.

The base ingredient in many DIY body wash recipes call for liquid castile soap. According to Wikipedia.org “Castile soap is an olive-oil-based hard soap made in a style similar to that originating in the Castile region of Spain.” The moisturizing agent in the body wash is come kind of oil. You can use coconut oil, jojoba, sweet almond, or grapeseed are all good choices. Another ingredient that benefits your skin is honey. Honey helps keep your skin from drying out, making it perfect for dry, itchy and damaged skin. The honey makes the body wash smooth. It’s best to use raw, unfiltered honey. Essential oils add both a pleasant fragrance and healing properties. Choose a combination that appeals to your senses and needs.

The basic DIY Body wash with essential oils recipe. Ingredients: 2 /3 cup liquid Castile soap 1 /4 cup raw, unfiltered honey 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil 1 /4 cup of coconut oil or oil of your choice. (if using solid coconut oil, it will need to be melted in a small bowl in the microwave.) 40 to 50 drops of natural essential oil (suggestions, orange, lavender, eucalyptus, geranium, chamomile, palmarosa, peppermint, rosemary, sandalwood, tea tree, ylang ylang.) Directions: Combine the honey, essential oils, vitamin E and coconut oil in a bowl and mix together with a whisk. Slowly add the liquid castile soap, gently stirring. This prevents suds from being created. Transfer the mixture to a pretty glass or plastic bottle. Shake well before using. Creating your own DIY all natural body wash with essential oils is quick and easy. But the benefits are great for your skin.

Sugar scrubs are a wonderful addition to your body care routine. Sugar scrubs are good for exfoliating the dead skin cells from our face and body for a more youthful glow. A deep exfoliating cleanse with a sugar scrub can help remove environmental toxins that our bodies are exposed daily. Of course you’ll want to use a sugar scrub that is chemical free. That’s why making your own essential oil scented sugar scrub is simple and quick and much better for your skin. A sugar scrub is made with natural ingredients like coconut oil, sugar and essential oils. You most likely have all the ingredients on your shelf to make a sugar scrub. Here is a simple recipe to get you started. Ingredients 2 + 1 /2 cups of sugar (any kind will do) 8 ounces of almond, coconut or grapeseed oil 30 drops of your favorite essential oil (be sure it’s safe for topical use) Wide mouth containers. You can use metal or glass. Directions Mix the sugar, essential oil, and regular oil in a bowl. It should look and feel like castle making wet beach sand. If it’s too dry add more oil. If it’s too wet, add more sugar. Pour into containers. Essential oil suggestions include lemon for refreshing the skin, tea tree oil for antibacterial, citrus such as grapefruit for astringent properties or peppermint for a refreshing pop. Take your scrub to the next level by adding dried herbs, dried flowers, clays, and seeds. Or add loose tea like as matcha. These make great gifts for all the ladies in your life. Package them in small mason jars, tins or other decorative jars tied with ribbon and a label.

Using a hand mixer, whip the slightly hardened mixture until it is fluffy and light, somewhat like cake icing. Return it to the refrigerator to completely set up, about 15 minutes. Place in glass jars with lids. Keep it stored in airtight containers in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Some suggestions on essential oils to use include lemon, lavender, peppermint, or rose, This body butter will keep for a while. It may melt in warmer climates and lose its whip. But no worries.
