Preface The condition of the beginning of earth, is the accumulation of wind cut, sun burn and raindrop. Fell on the soil, stacked on time. a water drop hollows a stone. The accumulation of sand makes a mountain. The formation of nature is a slow but great, repeated inclusion, which are countless sunrises and sunsets, growths and decays, births and deaths, and the marks of numerous residents and passengers. Nature has the quality of remaining in here point by point. The construction process build the order by which can’t be altered or displaced. All secrets of things lie in the way your gaze runs over patterns following one another.
Thesis In Chinese, there is a proverb which is much similar with
“Gutta Cavat Lapidem,” which is “ 滴水穿石，積沙成
山 ,” it means literally “the dripping water can penetrate a stone, and the accumulation of sand can form a mountain.”
Proverb describes about how gradual but great the process is, to form the earth we see now.
Method o f O p era t i o
To reflect the project’s title, I have named my work “Zora.” My intention is to create a piece by bundle up collected stone and soil, deadwood and new leaves, living creature and dead body. The utmost spirit has been being found in every corner of the park.
That would be my metaphor of “how gradual but great the process is,” the model of the forming earth; uneven and irregular shape, chaotic and messy. Then, as time stacking, weather and sunshine changed the appearance very gradually but greatly. Such as the changes on the Earth for the pass billions of years, the constant transformation leads to the sustainable presentation of Mother Nature.
I perform a slow and difficult formation of earth/ nature which just like “the dripping water can penetrate a stone, and the accumulation of sand can form a mountain” , thereby as a contract of how fast people consume the nature and how arrogant human is. We should put our eyes on “Zora”, and think seriously. When assessing the value of existence of nature, we should emphasize more on nature itself, but not think from our perspective only. Through the involvement of art, I see my work as a compensation and feedback for Mother Nature, and make respond to her with respectful attitude that she supposed to be treated.
