NATURE IS THE KEY TO OUR SURVIVAL

NARRATED BY UMA THURMAN

PREMIERES WED., OCT. 14, 10 PM

As global awareness of nature increases, this three-part series highlights worldwide efforts to allow the time for it to rebound, evolve and return habitats to their natural order. With scientists and conservationists examining ways we can restore our planet, The Age of Nature explores humanity’s relationship with our natural environment and poses important questions. What can our mistakes of the past teach us about nature? Have we realized nature’s value in time, or have we already pushed nature to the breaking point?

GPB EDUCATION

ADAPTING TO SUPPORT TEACHERS, STUDENTS & FAMILIES

This school year may look a little different, but GPB Education is here to support teachers, students, and families with both in-person and virtual learning models. Our Georgia Home Classroom, a partnership with Georgia Department of Education, offers instructional broadcast schedules, digital learning resources, and K-12 remote learning plans for all grades and subjects that adhere to Georgia standards. With our instructional broadcast schedules, we have identified episodes to feature each week that align to age bands and link to themed learning objectives through a variety of resources from PBS KIDS and PBS LearningMedia. When schools closed due to COVID-19 and abruptly shifted to remote learning, GPB quickly partnered with GaDOE and school districts on delivering content, especially to students lacking internet access. After taking the summer to determine what worked best, GPB is listening to the needs of teachers and families and continuing to be adaptive and flexible in the face of a continually evolving situation. ELINOR WONDERS WHY MON.-FRI. 10:30 AM & 1:30 PM

Head out on an adventure with Elinor, the most curious and observant bunny rabbit in Animal Town, and her pals, Ari, a funny and imaginative bat; and Olive, a perceptive and warm elephant in the delightful children’s series Elinor Wonders Why. Created by celebrated cartoonist and robotics engineer, Jorge Cham, and physicist and educator, Daniel Whiteson, Elinor Wonders Why encourages kids to follow their curiosity and learn about the natural world around them. “Asking questions and investigating the answer are at the core of scientific discovery, and we designed the series to model and encourage children, parents and educators to do just that together,” said Whiteson. Along the way, children will also learn about respecting others, the importance of diversity, caring for the environment and working together to solve problems.

GPB EXPANDS COVERAGE OF PUBLIC POLICY WITH GA TODAY PODCAST AND MORE As a public media network, providing our listeners and viewers with information and opportunities for civic engagement has always been a top priority for GPB. Now is an especially critical time for in-depth coverage of the state’s laws and legislators as Georgia is faced with a range of important issues and a growing regional and national significance on the political stage. At the same time, Georgia is confronting a crisis faced by states across the U.S. —the lack of indepth news coverage—because of the shrinking number of media outlets. To address this unprecedented crisis, we have launched Georgia Today to focus reporting on public policy, politics and the activities and impact of state government.

In addition to GPB Radio coverage, Georgia Today will help us expand our digital content offerings, starting with these three platforms: • Georgia Today Podcast • GPB News Website • Georgia Today E-Newsletter

gpb.org

| 13

Funded with a grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, Georgia Today will enable GPB to expand our capacity for covering public policy and policy makers on the local and statewide levels. Additionally, the initiative will support our efforts to strengthen existing partnerships and create new allegiances with other media outlets, addressing the issue of areas in Georgia where local news has been radically reduced. In the coming months, we will be sharing more about our plans for Georgia Today, including news content on our website and a dedicated daily newsletter. GPB’s Georgia Today podcast is currently available at gpb.org/podcasts, Apple Podcasts, NPR, Spotify, Google, Stitcher, TuneIn and wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. Listen in for each episode as host Steve Fennessy walks through a compelling story from the week’s news, through the eyes of the journalists who cover it. Georgia Today also airs on GPB Atlanta 88.5 FM and the GPB Radio statewide network Fridays at 6:30 p.m.
