ABOUT FLAMENCO

It is difficult to find a form of artistic expression that excites and raises as much passion as Flamenco does. Flamenco is the most international cultural expression that Andalusian and Spanish culture has to offer. It has been registered as such in the November 2010 Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. As an art form, Flamenco has become part of global culture, crossing borders and being open to new tendencies. It is currently the leader of an inter cultural dialogue essential to understanding it. The result of a long formation process, Flamenco is characterised by the importance of its tradition and oral history, by the diversity of its art, by the existentialism of its messages, by the quality of its lyrics and for its ability to influence other world music. Both in its origin and in its evolution, Flamenco is an obvious example of human creativity. A characteristic of Flamenco's identity is its exceptional flexibility. Always open to individual contributions, Flamenco respects, welcomes and embraces a multitude of individual creations.

TUÉTANO creation 2012 show with ANDRÉS MARÍN + 1 dancer (Concha Vargas) + 1 singer (La Macanita) + 1 guitar “Franco would have prohibited this flamenco. Wherefrom the urgency of showing it, like a premonition…” M-‐C. VERNAY. LIBÉRATION. “Tuétano is a roar of nonconformity. An honest and sincere piece that exposes the deceptions of a dehumanised man. A journey to his very core and a return to his primitive nature. ” EL ECO DE LA MEMORIA.

ANDRÉS MARÍN LA PASIÓN SEGÚN SE MIRE

creation 2011

show with ANDRÉS MARÍN + 1 dancer (Concha Vargas) + 3 singers + 6 musicians

“An atlas of boundless emotions and impulses, that perhaps constitute his masterpiece (...) His abstract, conceptual, expressionist ways of dancing, with his slender torso, seem as if they come from a painting by Munch or from Nosferatu by Murnau. They are magnetic, hypnotic and disturbing.” F. SANCHEZ MUGICA. DIARIO DE JEREZ.

EL CIELO DE TU BOCA

creation 2010

show with ANDRÉS MARÍN + 2 singers + 4 musicians

“Andrés Marín took a risk and it paid off. A musical collision that never leads to a cacophony. On the contrary. Andrés Marín, polished and more expressive than ever before, fights with nuances. His feet jingle, hammer, beat, as if the beat flows from their very soles.

ROSITA BOISSEAU. LE MONDE.

VANGUARDIA JONDA

creation 2008

show with ANDRÉS MARÍN + 1 singer + 3 musicians (guitar, piano, percussion)

“Vanguardia Jonda is a personal laboratory. Marín sets his dancing free in the form of a clenched fist with rabid outbursts, whereby he crystallizes it into an unique and immortal gesture.” ROSITA BOISSEAU. LE MONDE.

BELÉN MAYA

TR3S

creation 2011

show with BELÉN MAYA + 1 singer (JESÚS MÉNDEZ) + 1 guitar (RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ) + 1 palmas/dancer

“She is the only flamenco dancer on the stage, accompanied by the singing of Jesús Méndez, a revelation of gypsy flamenco from Jerez, and by the guitarist Rafael Rodríguez. It is a flamenco show which brings us closer to our human and intimate essence. Unaffected, Belén Maya will find herself in the depths of her embodiment, her internal fire. Between tradition and modernity, Belén Maya dares to unveil the dance, revealing flamenco in all its truth, showing the mark of her bodily splendour, happiness and desolation..” SUD-‐OUEST. 13/01/2012

TOMATITO

LUZ DE GUÍA. SEXTET creation 2010 show with TOMATITO + 1 guitar + 2 singer + 1 percussion + 1 dancer

The most important thing about the guitarist Tomatito is not what he plays, playing like God himself, but how he plays it, how he dominates the guitar to the point of humbling it and how he strums the strings with such incredible sureness and a flavour which is so intense and intoxicating that it is like when he goes to sleep he dips his fingers in solera wine. ALELUYA ERÓTICA

creation 2012

show with ROSARIO TOLEDO + 1 singer + 1 guitar

adaptation of music keys and flamenco dance of ‘Amor de don Perlimplín con Belisa en su jardín’, by Federico García Lorca

“Rosario transformed Belisa into a passionate being, with unique and temperamental fierceness. Hardly a seductress at the beginning, always in control, and sensual on many occasions. And all this expressed through a dance of strength which draws on all her body's resources to be able to communicate through it, as her language is none other than this one. The fierce and voluptuous may brush up against each other, but don't forget about femininity as well”. EL PAIS. FERMÍN LOBATÓN. 21/09/2012.

“Beautiful and stunning Leonor Leal on the stage. This flamenco dancer from Jerez, with her presence alone, fills and occupies the stage with greatness. (...) Movements which evoke avid adjectives of life, a body exposed to tears, smiles, pain, survival.” JEREZJONDO.COM. 2011.

One of the indispensable French photographers, with a collection of excellent flamenco photographs from recent decades. Not only from the stage, but through families, festivals and the Rocío, in dance classes or on the street, he is a photographer with a sixth sense knowing where to be. His images recreate the panorama of contemporary flamenco and without distinguishing between generations, he photographs companies, professionals and anonymous people. MANUELA PAPINO. VICENTE ESCUDERO

LÍNEAS EN LIBERTAD

FLAMENCO EXHIBITION

An exhibition dedicated to the memory of Vicente Escudero, a mythical figure not only in the world of dance but also in Spanish culture in general, both because of his relationship with the artistic avant-‐garde movement during his years of training in Paris as well as his multi-‐faceted dedication to various artistic disciplines. His pictorial activities which he never stopped cultivating over the course of his long life, were highlighted through paintings, drawings and other objects belonging to José de la Vega s collection.
