Important: Is your coaching licence valid? For your coaching licence to be valid you need to have a current DBS (formerly CRB) check. Your DBS check needs updating every three years. The Government last year introduced changed the process for DBS checks which means that UKA, who issue coaching licences, no longer receive a copy of your DBS certificate when you are sent one. This means that you, should you wish have your licence being renewed, need to send your DBS certificate to UKA so they can see it and take the next steps in the process. You can find out details of the DBS renewal process at: www.englandathletics.org/DBS. If you wish to check whether your DBS check is up to date you can log in to view your profile at: www.englandathletics.org/myprofile.

Latest NGB Updates British Rowing Safe recruitment protocols for clubs A safe and appropriately administered recruitment protocol for anyway working with juniors is a fundamental part of safeguarding children and/or Adults at Risk in British Rowing affiliated clubs. A Criminal Record Check alone is not sufficient to indicate whether someone is appropriate to work with children or Adults at Risk. The minimum recruitment process for anyone whom clubs wish to deploy in roles with junior is outlined in Section 5 of the British Rowing Safeguarding and Protecting Children Policy: www.britishrowing.org/aboutus/welfare/safeguarding-and-protecting-children-policy. Please remember that there is no automatic ‘transferability’ of a British Rowing Criminal Record Check between clubs. If a club is considering recruiting someone who is already in possession of a DBS certificate obtained through British Rowing, the club welfare officer must always contact British Rowing’s Lead Safeguarding Officer for confirmation of their status as part of the recruitment process. Latest NGB Updates British Rowing Understanding coaching pre-requisites Are you thinking about becoming a coach? Pre-requisites aren't just for coaches - find out why you need them. A change to the UKCC Level 2 award from January of this year introduced three pre-requisite workshops, which need to be completed before signing up. The workshops are: Capsize / Man Overboard & Recovery Training Safeguarding & Protecting Children Emergency Aid These workshops are essential if you are thinking about becoming a qualified coach. However, the most important reason for making this change is because this content is so fundamental to any rowing activity that we felt it should be more widely available than just to coaches.
