Shropshire Boccia County Finals 2014 Shropshire RCC started promoting Boccia in 2010, since then over 40 Boccia clubs have been set up around the County and there is now an annual County Finals tournament. Susie Hancock, the Project Lead explains: “The clubs, mostly run by volunteers, involve older people, who appreciate playing sport from a seated position! Boccia enables competitors to compete as equals, regardless of impairments . Heats for the County finals take place in partnership with local colleges; students are trained to play, referee and score a match, adding a crossgeneration aspect to the tournaments. For a brief case study on how competitive Boccia has evolved in the County please click here. Women in Sport

Previously called the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF), changes it’s name to Women in Sport

Why have they changed? As the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation, they’ve inspired women and girls to take part in sport, on and off the field, for 30 years. As Women in Sport, they want to collaborate, challenge and change sport from the inside. Their vision remains the same: to transform sport for the benefit of every woman and girl in the UK. New Sport and Recreation Alliance Report A new Future Trends report from SRA covers how the current physical inactivity crisis in the UK can be tackled through the use of technology and innovation to harness emerging consumer and lifestyle trends. The report also shows how technology is changing the way we are physically active. There are five key trends that the report covers, accompanied with real-life examples and case studies: The Quantified Self: The use of technology to collect, analyse and interpret data about the individuals movement and performance. Game On: The incorporation of competition elements into mainstream products, services and retail contexts. Winning points, medals or social recognition are all offered for activity. Healthy Hedonism: The increasing expectation that healthy behaviours should be fun! Consumers no longer want to make a choice between enjoyment and sensible choices. Performance Perfection: The use of social media to broadcast views, recordings and experiences to interact with others who have similar interests. Cult of the Home: The increasing role that our living rooms play as attractive spaces in which to socialise and engage with sport and recreation. Click here to download the report

Culturally Excluded Guide A resource has been published by Sporting Equals to support providers to engage an untapped market. The guideline introduces five key black and minority ethnic (BME) archetypes developed as a result of research by Sporting Equals over a number of years through desktop research, focus groups, questionnaires and consultation with local communities. The key archetypes areCulturally excluded - those who face cultural or religious barriers to participation Interested but inactive - those who are sports fans but do little sport themselves Occasionals with potential - those engaged with sport but who could be pushed to do more Fragile regulars - their sporting habits drop off as lifecycle changes or they face diminishing opportunities in sport settings Early sporting drop outs - those who drop out once they leave full-time education

The archetypes will help identify ways for National Governing Bodies, Local Authorities and leisure providers to engage better with people from BME communities and support them to become more active. The guide covers accessibility to sport and barriers, club environments, key drivers of participation and tips for service providers. Follow this link to Download a copy
